The incredible NE run started the following year in ‘93. That was the first year since ‘83 they entered the bowl game unbeaten and untied. Before that point Osbourne had nice teams but would then get destroyed in the bowl game. Jan 1 ‘94 when they were a missed FG away against that FSU team was when people took notice of what NE was building.
I miss old school college football. I can't even stomach it now. The NCAA ruined it with NIL and transfer portal. I went to Pacific and got to see Nebraska thump my team. We were so. Cal surfers playing corn fed behemoths 🤣
NCAA didn’t ruin it with anything. The United States Supreme Court said that you cannot tell these athletes that they cannot make money off of their own names and images.
The week before, Nebraska beat up on #8 Colorado 52-7, in this game, they clobber #12 Kansas 49-7, then the next week, they take their #7 ranking to Ames to play an Iowa State team that was headed for a losing season and had to start their third-string quarterback because of injuries to the first two, and lose 19-10. Turns out that game was just a blip for Tommie Frazier, since that would be his only conference loss as the Huskers' starting QB.
@@jrino1979 after the 92 Iowa State loss, Nebraska would not lose another regular season game until 1996. Their only losses since the 92 Iowa State up through 1995 was to great Florida State teams in consecutive Orange Bowls (1993 and 94). A missed field goal in the final seconds of the 94 Orange Bowl cost the Huskers the 93 national championship. From 1993 to 97 Nebraska's record was 60-3, the greatest 5 year run ever by any college football team.
That's just bizarre about Iowa State playing their 3rd string QB. I'm also an OU fan and when they upset us in 2017, not long after a big win at Ohio State, they were also playing their 3rd string QB I believe. Strange how similar those circumstances were. OU's had a really similar run in the last 20 years to the Osborne era of being really good but coming up short. I just hope we have a similar payoff soon.
Glen Mason might have been a great coach. He did far better at Kansas than anyone ever has. He also did really well at Minnesota. I wonder why he didn't ever coach at a big time program unless he did before this, but I'd be shocked if he didn't get any offers after his success at Kansas.
I believe that Mason was considered for Georgia, and they were going to offer it to him, after 1995. He hung on a year too long, however, and had to settle for Minnesota after 1996..
bmboldt: Thanks for the great videos. You've got a lot of videos that seem like they'd be difficult to get so I have to ask-Is there any chance you can get the 1993 Nebraska-Kansas game? I heard KU had a chance to win at the end with a 2 point conversion and of course they missed it. That would be really interesting to see.
@@marksneddeker6818 If that's true then 1992 Alabama would demolish 2009 Alabama since they won the NC that season too. Alabama has all their bases covered in college football.
Look how many Nebraska starters from in-state. Big problem that the state doesn't produce as much. A reason Nebraska isn't as good (and frankly the program kinda sucks now)
Now THAT'S a loud crowd. This was the start of arguably the greatest run in college football history.
I'm watching this game on UA-cam in 2020 and I can tell even now it was one of the loudest crowds ever in good ol' Memorial.

I enjoyed this game a little too much. I got a DUI later this night. LOL.

@@coolbreeze2.0-mortemadfasc13what does that have to do with the transfer portal garbage?

ndhunter Tommie was playing hurt during the Iowa State game.
Frazier lost only twice after Iowa State. Remember who?

He had his heart set on Ohio State, but they wouldn’t hire him after getting rid of Cooper.

I remember listening to that game on the radio because it was not televised.
@@bmboldt How about the 83 Nebraska vs. Colorado. That was a game. That third quarter!
I miss Dr. Jerry Punch.
Seems like the shoulder pads are HUGE
Studies show they protected better against neck injuries than current.
This was the best era of college football by far. They look like high schoolers out there now, and the game's pansy ass modern style fits it too
I want the noise stopped! HAHAHAHA!!
Thank you Byron Bennet for my National Championship…. Signed Bobby Bowden.
Wow Kansas in the ESPN prime time game for football, this has to be a rarity.
Nebraska 92 squads would demolished 2009 Alabama Crimson Tides championship team in my opinion.
Then imagine what 92 Miami would do to them:)

I am amazed this team lost 3 games in 92. They were by far the most dominate of Tom's 9 win teams
In your dreams
5-2 defense wow.
Absolute destruction
NHL: Quebec, Hartford….😢
Nebraska went on to win a national tit.. oh wait, not quite yet.

The program sucks because of Scott Frost and a weak hypocritical administration and fanbase that coddle him
