A northern Canadian thing? I can assure you that Eskimos don't sound like that either. The only Canadians that remotely sound like that are from Newfoundland. They are also some of the nicest people you will ever meet. Lord tunderin.
American kids go to college until they are 21, they finish year 12 at 18 then 3 years of college, can't be drunk in college, in Australia we finish school at year 12, turn 18 drinks all round
"Crazy world and a lot of crazy people". Pretty good summation of life on planet Earth. If any advanced aliens ever visited Earth, I think that would be their assessment. "Whoa! Ain't stoppin' here. This place is F'd up big time. Nothing for us to learn here, let's move on."
Great reaction. Yes, I think many in America do think of Canadians this way but I think that this is just a typical stereotype that goes across the board, when we tend to really exaggerate reality. I subscribed too bro!
The higher age for drinking may have something to do with getting the right to drive and drink alcohol at the same age. We have many fatal accidents here in Australia involving carloads of drunken teenagers.
That wasn't THE Canadian accent, it's A Canadian accent. That was a send up of the rural hoser accent. Jeffrey's inlaws are in rural Alberta. Most Canadian actors in Hollywood have to go to a vocal coach .
In the UK you can sign up to the Army at age 16, but you can't fight on the front lines until you're 18, which is also the legal public drinking age. Of course, in private (or in a private bar) you can drink double vodkas at the age of five. Go figure.
The freest country in the world, where kinder eggs are banned, some states ban collecting rainwater on your own property, or having a basketball hoop in your drive, and you can do decades for selling weed in the wrong place. A great country, but somewhat of a delusional one at times.
So in Wisconsin the “legal” age for drinking historically was 21 but it was changed to 18 for a while in the late 70’s early 80’s but there was a substantial increase in drunk drivers and other health and legal problems with teenagers during this time they finally had to change it back to 21.
The age was 18 in Canada for a while also, but the was a problem with high school seniors getting drunk. So they upped it to 19, and thus put the drunks in college.
That's pretty much how we Aussies see Canadians. Next to the Kiwis, you are the most culturally close to us in the world. Except a larger percentage of you are religious.
When the drinking age was changed to 21, one of the arguments given had to do with brain development and the effect alcohol will have on a teenager vs. an adult. Here in Michigan, the state was one of the first to lower it drinking age to 18 (1972?), but, primarily due to increase in traffic accidents, MI became one of the first states to go back to age 21 (1978?).
I don't get it either. In Sweden you are old enough to vote, get elected, take care of your finances and get married at 18 - but you can't buy wine to celebrate until you're 20.
I feel like they upped the drinking age because alcohol can affect a brain and a brain at 21 would be less likey to get as much damage or something. maybe something for driving as well to combat the drunk driving thing. that's my guess. as for how Americas see Canadians...….guess to depepends but a solid stereotype would the Canada from the hetalia series. look up the hetalia dub. episodes are 5 minutes long. or just type America Canada hetalia English in youtube.
Hate to say it in a way, because I'm from the UK, not US. But there's no medical reason why alcohol is worse for you after around 16. Your liver is fully formed. I've spent, 7 years mostly studying endocrinology, but have branched off down relevant routes. I don't see why these companies don't want to broaden the market... However alcohol is very dangerous, also probably best to give it until 18, because 16 is just an average for full organ development. Got many silly stories of my own experiences though hahaha, ain't life funny?
Even more gobsmacking than the drink laws - in America federal law has no minimum age for rifles or shotguns. 30 states have laws which allow children from 14 years (e.g Montana) allowing children to use such weapons - go figure. I am English and I don't think Canadians sound like that except when Americans's mimic them - I don't think the English sound like Dick Van Dyke in Mary Poppins either! Ha Ha
Def do not think Canadians sound like that, I can't actually hear the difference between Canadians speaking English and Americans (I'm European myself). But there's def. a stereotype of Canadians being very nice (that in my personal experience seems pretty accurate, although there's mean people in every group of any kind).
(From Edmonton) I found that that “Canadian accent” is mostly in Ontario (which slowly changes into the prairies version... and if you head over to the east coast. Well they have a strong accent). I’ve lived in BC for almost all my adult life, I’m sure the stereotype is that we all sound like pot loving hippies 😛 Wanted to touch on guns and assisted suicide: - a good 95% of my friends and family know how to use and/or own long guns (rifles/shotguns/etc. Myself owning a Springfield trapdoor .45-70.) with about 30% with restricted (handguns) no matter their political leanings or gender. We all are of the mindset of one shot one kill (with hunting etc)... to a lot of us, that differs from the seemingly USA attitude of spray and pray. The assisted suicide is for terminally ill people that would otherwise waste away to nothing (and usually in tremendous pain). It’s not cause you’re feeling sad that one day. (from what I understand two different doctors have to basically sign off that nope, you’re going to die). As Jeff mentioned, I think that’s one of the greatest freedoms ever. My two cents Canadian.
I think you mean 5 cents. We don't have pennies. LOL And, ya, that was a send-up of the rural " hoser " accent . His partner is from rural Alberta, there's a clip somewhere about meeting his Canadian inlaws.
Allowing a drinking age of 18 is a social demand but not medically supported. The human brain is still developing at age 18 and alcohol negatively effects brain cell development (medical fact). An 18yo can do a lot of things in a reasonable fashion sober , like be a soldier, but its debatable they have the mental maturity to act reasonably under the influence. Two good reasons for age 21. Under 21's maybe not like them but they are fact.
In Australia 16 yrs old having S_x is legal. Japan is the award winner, theirs is 12 years old. Though In the middle east has a different story who's got a flagship of marrying a 9 yr old.

In Scandinavia we love Canada:) And yes..a lot of us think of canadians as laid back and freindly.
Lol appreciate it, thanks for the input and you gotta come to Canada some day I'm sure you would love it, anyway take care.
Canadian people are awsome .. as long as they're not wielding a hockeystick, then they go mental.
The accent was more Minnesota than Canadian in my American opinion, and the drinking age thing has perplexed me as well, it was done in the first place to stop teenagers for having access to it and getting killed in car accidents, but doesn’t make sense that you can vote of give your life at 18 and have to wait til 21 to drink.
I'm a Brit, and I do not think of Canadians like that. Until that blackface rubbish that was revealed, I had thought of Canadians as Trudeau-like. Yet, now that I think of it, I never laughed so hard as when I watched the 1983 film 'Strange Brew.' It was OTM with the 'Eh' yobs, but absolutely hysterical.
Yes, Canadians sound like that. My sister lives in New Brunswick and she has even developed the colloqualisms. I think it's funny though.
I didn't notice anything like that, but I've only been to Alberta and B.C. I did see a Canadian on UA-cam that sounded like that though, so maybe it's a regional thing? To Brits, Canadians sound like Americans.
No, I personally don't think we Canadians sound like that, but it seems to be a pretty pervasive stereotype in other parts of the world.
Same that why I asked, I don't think that at all, but who knows how other people see us, but I believe we sound more like American because once every week for some reason some one always asks me if I'm from the states :( lol Thanks for watching take care and stay safe my Canadian brother!
@@SeansWorld420 I depends on the Canadian. Big city east coast Canadians wouldnt, but I know some people from the prairies in Alberta and they sound hokey like that, just not quite the same. More "Oooohhh suurre" whenever you ask them anything.
I can't tell the difference until you guys say "eh" or certain words, for instance "eggs"
Nah, pretty much only the Yanks think that. We Brits don't, and I'm pretty sure the Aussies don't either. Jim must have picked up the stereotype from living in the US.
I believe the drink age was adjusted to 21 from a push by from Evangelical Christians in I believe the 70's.
I was just thinking of this subject yesterday in Canada. 18-19 makes more since, but I thought since we have province that have it legal at 18, shouldn't it just be legal at 18 in all provinces?
Yeah, I agree, it should be 18 everywhere.
love from toronto definitely one of my favourite reactors
I’m Canadian as well, but Newfie so we have our own sound all together, most think were Irish. But yes that IS the stereotypical Canadian voice
Lol lmfao im from Ottaw so I know a ton of Newfie's lol . Love your accents, don't ever change! I just got a plain accent nothing fun about it lol , anyways thanks for watching brother, stay safe and take care!
Sean's World you as well 👍🏻
I'm Scottish, one of my besties is from BC. She does not sound like Jim's Canadian, neither do you. But! I seem to have been watching a load of videos on here recently that are Canadian and there are a LOT of folks who do sound like that :) Maybe it's a northern Canadian thing?
A northern Canadian thing? I can assure you that Eskimos don't sound like that either. The only Canadians that remotely sound like that are from Newfoundland. They are also some of the nicest people you will ever meet. Lord tunderin.
Jim did a good job holding that free note.
3:32 Haha im fucking dead! To fast with the AAAAY :D:D:D Great reaction!

I got you brother, thanks for watching! Hope you enjoyed the video, take care.
That one is so funny
Latvian here. Canadians are certainly seen as very nice people. I think it's a very nice stereotype to have associated with your country. :D
Aye Latvians rise
I'm Australian and only some Canadians sound like that, I thought most Canadians sound American. America is definitely not free, not really.
Thanks Sean it was fun laughing along with you. 🇨🇦
I think Jim Jeffries is hilarious.
He has a dry unique British way of making absurdities funny
lol, your Mum has the good plated too. Subbed for the plates.
American kids go to college until they are 21, they finish year 12 at 18 then 3 years of college, can't be drunk in college, in Australia we finish school at year 12, turn 18 drinks all round
No not one American can explain why we have to wait 3 years into our adult life before we can drink alcohol legally.
We view Canadians as the good guy Americans. The reasonable ones.
"There's basically no difference between an American and a Canadian, but one is crazy."
Great reaction. Yes, I think many in America do think of Canadians this way but I think that this is just a typical stereotype that goes across the board, when we tend to really exaggerate reality.
I subscribed too bro!
great reaction ... keep it up
You know being an Australian I’d guess most people agree with Jim jefferies on a lot of things lol mostly we are really down to earth lol
That's why people love the Aussies ;)
The higher age for drinking may have something to do with getting the right to drive and drink alcohol at the same age. We have many fatal accidents here in Australia involving carloads of drunken teenagers.
Americans often confuse the Canadian accent with the Minnesotan accent
I'm from England so I had no idea about the Canadian accent cos most famous Canadians sound American
That wasn't THE Canadian accent, it's A Canadian accent. That was a send up of the rural hoser accent. Jeffrey's inlaws are in rural Alberta. Most Canadian actors in Hollywood have to go to a vocal coach .
Youll hear that accent alot in the Maritimes(Newfoundland, Nova Scotia, PEI), and a bit in rural Ontario, Manitoba and Saskatchewan.
Most celebs that go to HJolywood usually train to lose that accent.
You have a great laugh :)
Thanks for watching, appreciate it! Take care.
Love Jim Jefferies. But as a side note, I think if people enlist in the US military they’re allowed to drink alcoholic beverages under the age of 21.
Northern Canadians sound like that.
You don't sound Canadian, I thought you were American.
How do Canadians sound like ?
I am from Vancouver but nobody ever called me on that when I was in the states.
my entire knowledge of Canada comes from the Tv show Degrassi High
I'd say no. we don't sound like that. But i'm Canadian and I admit to potentially being biased in that regard.
repugnantone this American says you don't sound like that
I just subscribed!! Love Jim Jeffries
@Toombz PLEASE keep your problems with Jim Jeffries to yourself. The rest of us want to enjoy his comedy.
In the UK you can sign up to the Army at age 16, but you can't fight on the front lines until you're 18, which is also the legal public drinking age. Of course, in private (or in a private bar) you can drink double vodkas at the age of five. Go figure.
Loved it!
Thanks you, glad you enjoyed the video! Take care brother!
Sounds more like the accent used in the movie Fargo. Minnesota?
The freest country in the world, where kinder eggs are banned, some states ban collecting rainwater on your own property, or having a basketball hoop in your drive, and you can do decades for selling weed in the wrong place. A great country, but somewhat of a delusional one at times.
Just saying, you have the best laugh
i'm above the age of 21 and I still find the whole age thing kind of fucked up the way we have it
So in Wisconsin the “legal” age for drinking historically was 21 but it was changed to 18 for a while in the late 70’s early 80’s but there was a substantial increase in drunk drivers and other health and legal problems with teenagers during this time they finally had to change it back to 21.
The age was 18 in Canada for a while also, but the was a problem with high school seniors getting drunk. So they upped it to 19, and thus put the drunks in college.
Love Jim jeffery 🇨🇦
That's pretty much how we Aussies see Canadians. Next to the Kiwis, you are the most culturally close to us in the world. Except a larger percentage of you are religious.
I still don't know why America does not legalize Prostitution it may help in paying some of your debt how much is the country in debt again???
When the drinking age was changed to 21, one of the arguments given had to do with brain development and the effect alcohol will have on a teenager vs. an adult. Here in Michigan, the state was one of the first to lower it drinking age to 18 (1972?), but, primarily due to increase in traffic accidents, MI became one of the first states to go back to age 21 (1978?).
I entered the service at 17
great channel but the intro music is way louder than the rest.
That's the accent from Faego. North Dakota.
Land of hypocrisy
Love you Jim
I don't get it either. In Sweden you are old enough to vote, get elected, take care of your finances and get married at 18 - but you can't buy wine to celebrate until you're 20.
Good!really, onksiolkoon means good luck....... 😷
I love your reaction. Subbed.
Thanks for the support, appreciate it. Take care brother!
By the way Human trafficking for the sex trade has not been eliminated
18 to drink Australia
Even more gobsmacking than the drink laws - in America federal law has no minimum age for rifles or shotguns. 30 states have laws which allow
children from 14 years (e.g Montana) allowing children to use such weapons - go figure. I am English and I don't think Canadians sound like that
except when Americans's mimic them - I don't think the English sound like Dick Van Dyke in Mary Poppins either! Ha Ha
Def do not think Canadians sound like that, I can't actually hear the difference between Canadians speaking English and Americans (I'm European myself). But there's def. a stereotype of Canadians being very nice (that in my personal experience seems pretty accurate, although there's mean people in every group of any kind).
(From Edmonton)
I found that that “Canadian accent” is mostly in Ontario (which slowly changes into the prairies version... and if you head over to the east coast. Well they have a strong accent). I’ve lived in BC for almost all my adult life, I’m sure the stereotype is that we all sound like pot loving hippies 😛
Wanted to touch on guns and assisted suicide:
- a good 95% of my friends and family know how to use and/or own long guns (rifles/shotguns/etc.
Though In the middle east has a different story who's got a flagship of marrying a 9 yr old.
well that canadian accent is specific to some part of Canada, don´t remember exactly where, but language bouandaries is going away nowadays, I was even asked a few months ago where in london I live.. I was like "dude, I live in Sweden mate" :)
