- Modern movies with “strong female leads” often emphasize a character’s physical strength or appearance and their ability to discover themselves and take on the world. I got the chance to see Cabrini, which is about a celibate Catholic Religious sister serving the poorest of the poor Italian immigrants in New York - and being a true mother to the orphaned and lost. Today I give my take on how this film shines in revealing the apex of femininity through displaying the counter cultural and heroic work of St. Francis Xavier Cabrini. I share some of my thoughts on the production of the film, compare its themes juxtaposed to other recent films with strong female leads like Barbie, and take you through some of my favorite scenes from the film. I also share my thoughts on what I would have loved to have seen more in the film.

Being Protestant, I had never heard of Mother Cabrini until this film came out. My wife and I saw this film yesterday. We were blown away by this film! I agree with everything you said about it. If there was any justice in the world, it would get an Academy Award. Thanks for the great review!
I said the same thing. The Academy should grow a pair and include this movie for multiple nominations to include Best Picture.

Lila Rose, I was in a dollar store the other night and saw two teenager boys around 16 trying to buy a pregnancy test. One was acting like it was funny, but the other looked really scared.
I went outside to my vehicle and wrote down the name of Live Action and how to find your organization and went back to the worried one. When I told him what an amazing organization you are and that their are people that can and will help both him and the mother, if they will choose the baby's right to live, he looked so relieved and actually happy to hear that they can get help.
Luckily we're in a state that has recently changed our state laws regarding the right for babies to live. I pray for these young people to be able to carry out their baby's life and be born to loving parents regardless of whether or not they can keep the baby or decide to pass their precious baby's life to someone else.
Thank you so much for doing everything you do for these parents in tough times and providing a way for life. It overjoyed me to be able to see the hope in that boy's face upon hearing that there are people that are willing to work with them in their situation at such a young age and to care about a potential pregnancy.
I've been asked to help with ideas for a local church with choosing charities and missions work. You and Live Action are most definitely what my first suggestion is going to be. Again, thank you so much for doing what you do. May God continue to bless and protect you in your endeavors of preserving these innocent babies. 💛🙏💛

I’m Catholic and I’m not ashamed to say that I loved this film! I agree with Lila’s points in that it was a beautiful portrayal of the feminine genius and spiritual motherhood in action. Mother Cabrini’s life was a light in the darkness and brought glory to God. The world is in desperate need of more stories like this on the screen. I understand the criticisms, but why undermine Angel Studio’s efforts to put out quality and counter-cultural content? I see the good fruits of this movie. No doubt God is planting seeds, touching hearts with this film, building bridges, and opening doors to faith. That’s why it bothers me when fellow Catholics nit-pick and come across as Pharisee-like in their distaste for this film, calling it “feminist garbage” when in truth it displays authentic womanhood. Please stop with this nonsense. Support and build up- don’t tear down.
Some of us felt there was too much forced feminism in the film. Are we not allowed to have that opinion? I would have preferred they had some more scenes that touched on her spirituality more as well as the anti-Catholic bigotry she faced. But they made feminism the main message, which is why I and others had a problem with it. That is not a different message from other movies.

I saw this with my wife on opening night. I was very happy to see that it was very difficult to find tickets, as nearly all showings were sold out. I hope we get more great stories like this. And as a partial filthy Irishman myself, I'm glad they showed the difficulties back then that we've largely forgotten today.

A friend invited me to watch this film yesterday. I did not think I would enjoy it. I thought it would be corny and preachy, but it is far from that. THIS is a beautiful, powerful, emotional film. The woman who played Cabrini deserves an Oscar nomination next year. Her performance is as mesmerizing as Joaquin Phoenix as the Joker. It is a powerful and brilliant performance. The production value is amazing. I never felt like I was watching a “movie;” it felt like I was transported into the history. I am going to take others in my family to see this movie. Whether you believe in God or not, you will be moved by this story because, whether or not God exists, Cabrini was real and her service to humanity as portrayed in this film will move you.

I think that the fact that it focused mostly on what people around her would have seen and noticed speaks volumes of her witness to the faith. The other thing that I appreciated is that feminity wasn't shown as weakness or a stereotype of a "traditional woman". She was a strong faithful woman who did confront the prejudices of the time; that being race and sexism. These are realities. I think it also shows that compassion for others can show up in unlikely people and that Holy Spirit moves in ways that shake us and keeps us from certainty and complacency. Women are called to be strong women and live out that call by surrender to the Holy Spirit. I liked the moments of silence and where you see reflection. Her interior is reflected in the exterior.
The film was not realistic in its portrayal of "racism". There isn't a single White Anglo-Saxon Protestant in the film who is portrayed in a favorable (or even a nuanced) light, which is absurd. The arson scene was an invention of the filmmakers. The "racist" mayor was a character invented by the filmmakers. In real life, there were both Protestant Americans and Catholic Italian immigrants who behaved badly towards each other, yet in the film it only is portrayed as going one way. The reality is that no country has been more accommodating to Italian immigrants than the USA, and the thanks we get is the type of propaganda in this film.

Also cried within minutes, haha. Agree that it was really well done. Perhaps some of the dialogue was diluted in terms of its Catholic content, but nothing was egregious.

This is a pleasant surprise! Glad to hear both you and Father Mike Schmitz cover Cabrini, because I was apprehensive. Especially since really enjoying your Barbie coverage! I read and heard so many perspectives on Barbie (never saw it, and it seemed to me that Pride and Prejudice, Anne of Green Gables, and Little Women were more worthwhile examples of peak girls/women entertainment for pop-culture conversation, and being a man, it would be more beneficial for great women like you to bring word to good women's entertainment/art than me, not saying men can't since, as I mentioned, Father Mike Schmitz!...I don't know what peak boy/men entertainment examples would be, I thought Godfather might be one, and then Lord of the Rings and It's a Wonderful Life are more universal for both sexes) and your Barbie review was the most helpful.
It would be great to hear more pop-culture coverage, especially for the upcoming Passion of the Christ Resurrection sequel.
From my, upon reflection of, childhood onward perspective of movies I've seen (possibly only once multitasking), examples of strong feminine women characters to me were:
1. Mary Hatch Bailey (It's a Wonderful Life)
2. Eowyn (Lord of the Rings)
3. Maria Van Trapp (Sound of Music)
4. Lisa Fremont (Rear Window)

Just a heads up, be prepared for possible questions about what a prostitute and pimp are.
Lila Rose, i loved the cinematography, acting and direction of this film It is a stunningly beautiful movie. I didn't see the hand of God portrayed any where in this film. I suspect that people so desperately want this film to be something that it is not. It is a secularized version of a wonderful Saint's story, sanitized of God. Acting and direction are brilliant. You are also minimizing the feminist themes, which are inspiring in themselves given her achievements. . Your reading of her words about prayer and Jesus are evidence that you are trying to overlay facts about Cabrini that were just not portrayed in the film. They were deliberately made absent by the film makers, no matter how much we wish they were not absent. No prayer, No hand of God over the events that occur. Thank you Lila Rose, I deeply respect and admire your work.
I pretty much agree. This is what prevents me from calling this a great film. In the end they showed images of her canonization, and it made me feel like I was missing something, that I needed to find a good book or documentary that shared more of her thoughts. I only knew that she accomplished a lot against much resistance. I thought they overplayed the “woman fighting against men” angle to the point it was a bit cliche. What made her a Catholic Saint vs only just a wonderful humanitarian? Most reviews speak of the very high production quality first - or almost first - when reviewing. I think that is telling, as that is more of a technical artistic quality - but doesn’t speak to the heart of a film.
I think this is an excellent film, that yes, I would recommend over 95% percent of other movies, but it falls short of others I’ve seen about Saints or spiritual topics. For example, the Mother Teresa movie the Knights of Columbus put out was amazing - and had me choking back tears both times I saw it in the theatre. I’d even put the film Nefarious above this, as that film intensely shows how Satan works to ruin souls. Cabrini is an excellent film… but it could have been more in my opinion. And I don’t think it would have taken a lot to accomplish that, just a few more bread crumbs as to her interior life.
I have ordered her book and I am hoping it will fill in the blanks.

Typically the best stories tell the “why” and the “how” of their main character at least somewhat, no?? You don’t think love of God and prayer are essential parts of the actual story of Mother Cabrini??
One lacking part missing, is Mr Cabrini, her father. He would tell wonderful stories at the dinner table about missionaries. Frances as a young girl would go to the river. There she would make paper boats with a violet aboard sending them out downstream to be her missionaries. On one occasion she falls into the river drowning. becoming bedridden, and told by the doctor that is where she'll stay (BELONG). Inspired by her father's stories (named after the great missionary Francis Xavier) by divine providence she will be that wonderful missionary. Even today her paper boats with a violet aboard continue to float downstream throughout the "small world" she serves. Frances Cabrini pray for us.
Loved the movie. Truly amazing. So refreshing to view a movie without swearing,graphic sex and limited violent. We did pass it on at the end. Enjoyed the singing. Keep these movies coming. 948pm

no need to be curious - anything Christian/Catholic..just get out and see it. Don't study the anti-social media narcissistic, arrogant saying "they didn't this or she didn't do that"....she ACTED. She did the WORK. With TB disease. I'd see it for sure. I did. Just do it. Anything Alejandro Monteverde produces? GOLD! For our times. Yes.
I think that they didn’t really go into her prayer life because of several reasons. The company might be trying to cast a bigger net, and going into her prayer life might seclude Protestants, even athiests who might just be avid movie goers. Angel Studios is trying to make movies on par with the big boys, and in order to do that, you have to broaden your audience. I saw a plethora of movie reviewers who are not particularly religious go see Sound of Freedom, with most of them saying it wasn't a bad movie. I'd imagine that once they get more and more funding over time, the movies they produce will niche down.
It wasn't lost on me though that this is a Catholic saint and no mention of Mary throughout the film either. They were definitely strategic in the writing. Catholic saint being utilized to bring in the Catholics, not going into her prayer life to draw in everybody else.
The Vatican II council bent over backwards three or four times twisting the Church into a pretzel to appease Protestants. Well, it didn't work! Protestants hate the Catholic Church as much as they ever have in their entire history.
Angel Studios didn’t shoot the film. They buy films from other people directing films.
Put more simply, they sanitized the film of God or religion in order to make $$$
Basically, one of the owners of Angel Studios said in an interview that he didn't like being lectured by people on his side (conservatives - they're Mormons). They prefer movies that everyone can enjoy.
In another Lila Rose podcast interviewing the exec producer, he basically said that there won't be enough time to tell the story if he included all of Mother Cabrini's praying.
@AnaMT1985 oh interesting. it is my understanding that a lot of producers today are just buying the films, with team and all, not just buying a script and hiring the talent. So, though they didn't film it on their lots or used their sets or talent, they still are putting their name behind it. I'm sure it helps that it isn't overtly Catholic or else they may not have taken on the project. Idk though, I'm trying to think of it from a business perspective and it's not good OR bad that it wasn't overly Catholic, just smart business is all.
It only took 30 seconds..... 30 seconds into this movie before I was crying! It is a most beautiful film.

So many deep moments (I cried the whole time - for many reasons) many wouldn't even see, especially those on their high horse missing the whole point - no, she wasn't "praying a lot" in the movie. She was doing the WORK. The action. The fortitude, despite her TB (she was sick with a lung disease too) and how many people of perfect health, couldn't even turn down the masks and shots? So yeah, it kicked holy butt, and those who want to complain, need, with love and charity, some humbling as the film wasn't made for the devout Catholic ...they producers are WISE, prudent and you inspire more when you're on the ground with people, vs on the high horse with nose in the air. I've helped more people working as a nurse in secular environment, than the church ever let me from within, so....
I love how the prostitute joined Mother Cabrini, as well as how it was the prostitute who encouraged Mother Cabrini when she was finally tiring out, "no, you must do something"....small moment, powerful life changing reality. AWESOME!
My family is Italian and Sicilian - rampant poverty, yes, and also rampant "racism" but I never ever heard a word from my family about the racism. They said "we got here, we learned the language, we loved, and got to work. That's it!" This hit home for me too, Lila. As a Catholic, as well, with the hands dirty in the trenches where our faith is needed most - not staying on our knees with out getting on our feet. So yes! Great analysis, especially bringing in Margaret Sanger, in NY around that time.
SEE it, dear ones, and have gratitude for these producers, the ability to see it - same peeps who wrote Bella, For Greater Glory, Little Boy, Sounds of Freedom. Loves, stay focused on the point, purpose and mission.

It did not have to be a Catholic movie that only appealed to Catholics, but they could have made a little more references to her spirituality, out of respect, because obviously that was very important to her. But they barely had any mention of her individual spirituality at all.

The movie was wonderful! Here in New Orleans, LA, we have an all girls Catholic high school named after Saint Cabrini.
I love the term "apex femininity" (1:27- 1:32). That term should go viral as a means to describe what the most potent expression of femininity is, and how it runs counter to the shallow counterfeit nonsense that pop culture peddles as femininity (see The Barbie movie as an example). On a side note, Lila, this was an amazing review. You should have movie review segments as a regular item on your show. Granted, most films produced by Hollywood are not as laudatory of faith as Cabrini is, but it would be interesting to get a Christian perspective on popular movies - even ones that are antithetical to Christian virtues.

a true master piece as it brings joy to you're heart and tears to you're eyes, as italian child of God it moved me in ways it hard to put in words, a Film that will be in my top favorite films of all time, just a beautiful film from start to the end,
I really loved this movie. My wife and daughter just saw it last night. I will watch this movie. The best cinema and television that I enjoy anymore have All been independently made. I have absolutely no faith in any Hollywood and Disney movie that is coming out or will come out. I have completely rejected them.

My 8 year old daughter loved the film. We took her this last week. She wants to see it again in theaters which we will do.
Absolutely a beautiful movie, and I give it a 5 stars.and this is coming from the daughter of Southern Italian immigrants who came to America in the 1960's. My father had to prove he had somewhere to live and a job before he could come here.... my only criticism of the movie is it did not show Mother Cabrini's deep devotion to the Sacred Heart of Jesus-she was not a social activist.

The movie lacked a lot of catholicity, unfortunately.
A good use of John Lithgow in the trailer. I think his presence adds some gravity. He strikes me as a good one, and to the degree that he’s a draw, he can help mainstream the story.
My great aunt joined the convent as a nun right out of high school and stayed until her death at age 86. She took the name “Sister Cabrini” when she joined. I wish I could have asked her about the name she chose, wondering if Mother Cabrini was her inspiration.
Obviously she took the name of Mother Cabrini. Nuns took saints' names in those days. There's no other Saint named Cabrini.

I once did a deep dive on films about nuns, many were just wicked, but in almost everycase, the ended had the Nun leaving their
convent, usualy hooking up with a guy and of course it is always framed as a "liberation." This would be a rare case where
the Nun was true to her calling.
I’m not Catholic but this movie was amazing. She was such a courageous, strong, compassionate woman of God. I see the fingerprints of God all over her life.

The movie isn't a Christian movie, it's a movie to appeal to all audiences that when they watch it can empathize with Mother Cabrini and admire her determination. I think the film did a great job adding Christian concepts and Cabrini's love of Jesus without doing it in your face. That's what makes this movie so beautiful imho...it's not one of those corny films that you see sometimes where you're told what to think, it allows for the viewer to see her passion in Christ by her actions and struggles.
I’d say this is a good movie to see, but far from a “must” (unless the idea is that we need to support all decent theatrical releases about Saints). It’s an entry point to learn about this woman who became a Saint, but there is so much missing from this film, and it overplays the “woman fighting against the patriarchy” theme in my opinion. In terms of MUST see movies… the Mother Teresa movie put out by the Knights of Columbus a couple years back much better fits that description. I’d also personally recommend the intense film Nefarious about how a demon maneuvers to ruin souls. That is truly exceptional and thought-provoking.
Yes I feel the same way about it. It was good. I probably give it like a 4 out of 5, just based on how good the quality and acting in the movie was. But it was not perfect. I agree it was too heavy on the "smash the patriarchy" feminism.

As a Byzantine Catholic initially I was worried if Lila Rose would criticize this film for being woke and feminist as accused by some Ortho Bros and Rad Trad Boys. Glad to hear mature woman endorsing this film. Mature man wants mature woman. Insecure boy wants insecure girl who he can order around into submission. In the Church this is a heresy because St Paul explicitly command us submit to one another. Wife submit to her husband and husband submit to his wife. This mutual submission is a divine command not optional. When children saw how their dad abused their mom mentally, verbally, and spiritually then they would abuse their girlfriends and wives as well growing up. St Aquinas taught material heresy that female is a misbegotten male. Imagine the lengthy conversation he had with the most holy Theotokos in heaven. After St Joseph passed away it was our ever-virgin Lady who raised Jesus, instructed Him in faith, and taught Him how to pray. Our Lord entire education was homeschooled by her. God grew up being taught by a teenage mom. I have a dream to make film on the life of Theotokos. In the East we have many stories on her life. I hope in a few years generative AI will be able to help me to make this film and make my dream fulfilled. We need more mature men and more mature women in the Church. Who can respect, submit, and love one another equally because God created male and female consubstantially. Male is not superior than female and female is not subordinate to male. Both male and female are homoousian of same common humanity. Mother Cabrini pray for us!
Good points - but I'm sure Jesus wasn't entirely 'homesxhooled.- He would have been sent to the Synagogue to study Torah with the other boys, taught by Rabbis.

I love Mother Cabrini but was not so crazy about the movie. I can't imagine going to Cardinal Dolan’s office and being, sorry, a little disobedient, crafty.
If a clergyman's orders contradict what God has told you to do, God takes priority. That's all Mother Cabrini did.

I took two missionaries to the movie. They thought the cinematography, production etc were excellent. The plight of immigrants was powerful for them, since they reach out to immigrants. However, in the end they were sad because there was no prayer, no Sacred Heart., no Jesus, No BVM.
When Vittoria is beaten up and killed the pimp in self-defense, why didn't St Frances Cabrini simply say "Jesus loves you in your brokenness and emptiness. Trust in Him."
"Trust in Him who strengthens us" the only moment speaking about God.
Other than that, no Jesus, No Eucharist, no BVM, no Sacred Heart, No Rosary.
Sigh.............
I loved this movie there's been nothing to even touch it. Our Lord gets his message across in many ways.

I saw this on Opening Day - wonderful film - but she seemed never to have had a moment's doubt or lack of confidence. She seems rather one-dimensional.
I must agree with all of the commenters who offered the constructive criticism of the lack of real Catholic presence in this movie. I’m not a filmmaker and I get it. I understand you have to make movies that appeal to a wide audience -but what I don’t understand is why these talented filmmakers are unable to include the whole truth as it were. Why the truth about mother Cabrini’s Catholicism -(her deep devotion to the Sacred Heart of Jesus as an example) can’t be portrayed in an honest way. In all of these Christian movies that you see the Christian characters are always talking about God , they’re always seen praying; yet when you make a movie about a Catholic woman, she virtually never talks about God and except for a brief moment of grace at meals she’s never seen praying etc. While as a movie it’s entertaining -it’s OK --but it comes across as very modernist --everything that she does -her strong will-her devotion to the cause etc. is presented through the lens of modern feminism. One of the comments made reference to mother Cabrini’s interaction with the prostitute, who was so worried that she wasn’t going to be forgiven and mother Cabrini responds with a feminist tagline “we’re survivors.”. Really? I would think it is far more likely that Mother Cabrini would have referenced Mary Magdalene how Christ forgave her.

While I enjoyed this film, it felt very incomplete as a story of St. Frances Cabrini. She was the first American saint. She founded an order of sisters named Missionary Sisters of the Sacred Heart of Jesus. To neglect her religious devotion is to miss the main motivation of her fervor to serve others. I was perplexed to note that in this film the name of Jesus was not uttered once; not the name Christ, nor Our Lord. Mother Cabrini never is shown in prayer, which would have been the foundation of her daily life. This is such a faux portrayal of a nun. I base this observation on 12 years of Catholic education by nuns - 8 of those at St. Frances X. Cabrini school in L.A.
So what we have in this film is a story of the important social work for immigrants by a strong, devoted, courageous woman. Bravo. But her sainthood is unexplored. And that is what she worked to achieve. Though in the film the quote is left unfinished, Christ asks us to feed the hungry, clothe the naked, etc., because in doing so, we do it for Him. That is what the life and work of St. Frances Xavier Cabrini was all about.
I really wanted to like it more. I went to see it with my wife the second day it came out. I feel it was too heavy on the obviously forced feminism, always showing her talking over men and the men being sexist toward her. As a matter of fact, almost every man came off as sexist in the movie, with the Pope being one of the only exceptions. I get it was more sexist back then, and I don't even mind they focus on some of that, but the issue for me is they made that one of the main messages of the film. Basically, women need to speak up for themselves and not let the patriarchy suppress them / women are strong. I mean we have heard this message over and over again. It is nothing new it is offering. Why doesn't the film focus anything on the obvious anti-Catholic bigotry, which was arguably even worse of an issue she faced? It is not a bad movie. It has very good production and the actress that played Cabrini did a phenomenal job. I was overall very touched by her work and I think many can find this inspiring, despite the feminist message.
Very well said! I completely agree. When they showed images of her canonization at the end, I felt that so much had to be missing! I felt that was a bit disconnected from the portrayal I had just seen which focused so much one woman’s fight against the patriarchy (not a term used in the film, but they might as well have). I liked the film, but it could have been much more in my opinion with just a few more bread crumbs about her spiritual life.
I watched the whole movie and it was not as feminist as I thought or made out to be. There may have been some feminist tone in the movie but It was more like sensual women empowerment. What was lacking was her portrayal of being a servant of Christ, in which she drew her strength from.
For clarity , feminism is a vice of pride and a movement in which women try to become like men of the world, in the name equality. They trade the gift of motherhood and authentic femininity for worldly ambitions instead of true virtue. Mother Cabrini however was zealous for love the poor, and thus Christ, who is found in the poor and in our neighbors. Mother Cabrini is portrayed as strong-willed woman and willing to fight back. I'm not sure if what the actual St. Cabrini is like.
Lila why compare Singer to Cabrini? We know there are many differences between them. It’s more important to exalt the faith, life and works of mother Cabrini.
What I liked about the film was it showed some of the prejudices towards the Italians in late 19th and early 20th century. What it left out was the piety or a Catholic Italian American nun.
I saw nothing in the movie showing Mother Cabrini praying to her God nor talking about her belief in the Roman Catholic Church. I suppose this was done to try not to offend anyone regarding her faith. To me this is a significant loss to the movie.

There is a shelter that did do that kind of work but unfortunately or allegedly, I should say the priest had done many wrong things to the children. now the organization seems to have lost. What was Catholic about it? I wish that maybe people like you can go to the shelter or somebody and show this film to remind them what the original mission was we were taught in that system. You are here to get help not to find a boyfriend or to go back into the store. or to do the many sexual sins that would stop you from getting your life together and now there are so many bad things said about the shelter. I received most of what I needed from them, and it was difficult for me because they never dealt with a person with a physical disability before so they couldn’t see me as a young person who actually needed help from depression abuse, and family issues. One counselor did fight for me and I she did two more followed. I believe that Christ needs to be the focus once again. I think when the state took over, she didn’t help very much. I honestly wish somebody can take that place over and promote the Catholic values that are needed for their success rate to be higher and more honest it does make me cry because I didn’t think about that counselor they gave me so much help it was Easter. I wanted to go to church. I couldn’t go by myself because of my disability I couldn’t get my clothes ready or iron them because my hands don’t work well this counselor made sure that I was ready for church that morning.. she was so worried about my eating, because I was essentially destroying my body. I didn’t take to food very well and had eating disorder so any option for me to eat she would allow me to have even if it broke The rules

a very different era of immigration though....today's immigrants have it made in the shade....they didn't in the 1800s/1900s at all, and they did it legally and worked their tushies off then.

The film doesn't portray a single Protestant in a charitable light. They are all portrayed as one-dimensional hateful bigots, almost as if Hollywood had made this film.

I didn't like it at all. It was Mother Cabrini as girl-boss with no prayer (literally none, except 1 FRAGMENT of a meal blessing) and lots of self determination. Even some of the things she said she would not have said "now we must learn to believe in ourselves". She would never have said that. She would have said, we must rely even more on God and more on prayer. Telling Vittoria that she "is a survivor". That's so modernist it's eye-rolling. She would have told her that she's an image of God and that she can be forgiven and renewed in Christ. I felt like this whole film STRAINED to downplay her religion.
Not true. (I've seen it four times!) Mother Cabrini prays before the tabernacle when faced with a difficult decision. Pictures of the Sacred Heart and Blessed Mother are on several walls. She quotes Scripture.
This movie shows faith through works, as the epistle of James encourages.

Imagine a movie about Hitler who received two medals for bravery in WWI. He was even Times ‘Man of the Year’ in 1938. Imagine the movie only pointing out that which made him Times choice. Imagine the person who never heard of Hitler watching a movie about him. We can only hope people pick up a book to fill in the blanks.
I saw Cabrini opening day. Did not read or listen to any reviews prior. My thoughts, when it was over, is of a tenacious feminist emasculating men while doing great things. Nothing about her devotion to the Sacred Heart. Could not a FEW seconds of a Devine moment be peppered throughout the movie that gives honor to her devotion to Jesus and His guidance throughout her mission.

The movie opens on International Women’s Day. Her last comment at the end is what the feminist say. Maybe here is where they could have captured how the Devine worked in her life to be a tenacious women in a man’s world.

Well, the movie did do a great job in all ‘Cabrini’ did. Little girls will think it’s OK to be tenacious towards men/authority for their cause whatever it may be (as though we don’t have enough of that already in a Godless society). Read some, a lot!, of the comment on any of the Cabrini social sites to find how this movie was interpreted … Women power!!
This movie should receive an Oscar(s) for its superb cinematography and acting. I’ll give it that. But, let’s not merge the beauty of the film to mask what was woefully missing.

The movie is not about how she became holy and how we can grow in God's purpose for us. The sad thing is that this movie was made to further the Democrat agenda to have open borders. Yes we need to help the immigrant but we do not need to accept everyone into the country because they show up on our border.
It got a 90% critic score on Rotten Tomatoes. Now think about that. 90% on RT, where those same critics usually rip apart faith based movies. Sound of Freedom btw they gave a 57%. The reason they liked this one is because it fell in line with their progressive agenda. I don't think the film makers were trying to make it pro illegal immigrant, but it will be used by progressives to promote that regardless.
This!!! This was THE only thing I worried about - yes yes yes, how the dems will see this and say "seee? help the weak, the poor, the immigrant"..I thought the same thing!!! However, as a daughter of immigrant (Italian Sicilian), it was SUCH a different time, and for that, I wish they said something at the end about that. The immigrants then, did it busting their *&^%& blood, sweat and tears, nothing was free, they learned the language, they built bridges and tunnel, streets, etc. I am a nurse - I help every one who comes in - I even speak Spanish with them, but I am completely against what is coming in, how, and it's a whole different beast today.
Exactly right. The film was essentially a feminist film with an open borders message (with the requisite 'men bad' and 'White people bad' thrown in there quite heavily as well). They invented the arson scene and several others in order to play up that type of messaging. Very little of the film was about faith, spirituality, or God.
To me it sounds like a bad feminist movie. Probably with good camera and music. I don't plan to watch it. I also don't agree that making such movies about saints is better than making no movies.
It is very good production and great acting. Music was fine. But it does have a bit too much girl boss feminism. Not enough about her personal faith.

@@PB_324 It is not a masculinity thing. I am very proud of what Cabrini did and I have no problem with any of her work. She was an incredibly strong person, and deserved to become a saint. I just wished it focused more a little more on religion, and less on the feminism. It is a tired message and offers nothing original.

Spot on Review Lila. I saw the movie. Overall it was amazing! Like you said, it could of shown more of her strength and perseverance from all of her setbacks from her devotion to God, her faith & her prayer life! I wasn’t aware at the same time Margaret Sanger was starting the opposite work. Thanks for advising. Just like today we can choose Good-God-or evil-satan.
