I think it is a great thing...not because she was a Catholic nun but because she worked, did everything, initially for Italian immigrants in the US (indeed, I think that many of us, children of Italian immigrants, do know who she is, especially in NY where she began and where she is laid to rest)...but for anyone who was suffering due to racism and xenophobia, 2 subjects that remain issues. I believe that as a child of immigrants, especially Italian immigrants, there is a sense of pride that she is the 1st American saint....as it is deserved. Glad Colorado is remembering her in this way. It is a lesson we can all learn.
I have a picture of saint Cabrini. My grandmother had her picture on her dresser when I was only like 7 years old. I used to be afraid of it. I have a long story about it. I am stocked that that picture turned a women has now turned into a saint. I feel blessed now.
Send this to the Vatican! In her case, the Pope was wise to send her to us here in the New York City and then she took her faith and care for others throughout the Nation. A model for Catholic leaders and an absolute opposite apostate pope (he merits only a lower case designation). Thank you wonderful people in Colorado for honoring her. Her spirit and work not only deserves this honor, but she has always honored us.
The greater majority of Americans, unlike most other countries, welcome immigrants. Immigrants who are vetted, coming here for a better life and without criminal intent. Immigrants need to be screened and vetted not used as political pawns, not to swim dangerous rivers, sleep in deserts and be trafficked.
The movie its superb, but lacks the holiness that should be present in the character at all times. Mother Cabrini endured what she endured, did what she did finding strength in Christ, so she should be in pray many times, the movie shows her strength almost entirely based on her character, which is just wrong, she was very devoted to Christ. Its like feminism came to replace catholicism. This is wrong, I am sure Mother Cabrini was not a feminist.
There are different orders, the habit is designed for the time. Look at mother Teresa's Sari looking habit. It is an expression of the time, order and even mission
Recently watched a movie about her - what a fascinating woman!! So happy to have a holiday celebrating her!
Us too!
