There is a big difference between a scone and an American biscuit. Scones are made with heavy cream, whereas biscuits are made with buttermilk. Scones have sugar where biscuits do not. Scones are made more like a pastry where biscuits are more dense and buttery. While thinks may look alike, the ingredients and the process of how it's put together make all the difference in the world. I was a chef in the US military and have been cooking for over 50 years.
I think your explanation of scone versus biscuit is over simplistic and not accurate. I've seen scones that are not made with cream and I definitely make my own biscuits without buttermilk. Buttermilk is not the usual ingredient it's a usual ingredient but before buttermilk milk is the most popular ingredient in a biscuit. A biscuit and a scone if not the same thing are related. There's very subtle differences between the two it's mostly comes down to treatment. A biscuit is is like a lighter version of a scone. Same ingredients same flavor profiles, but just some variations here and there. There is no one biscuit recipe either. Some biscuits are made with butter some biscuits are made with shortening some are made with oil. In fact my favorite biscuit that I make is made with cream and oil. Uses no butter at all no buttermilk.
I can't overstress the importance of the pickle. It adds an extra dimension to the flavor of the chicken sandwich. As for the mashed potatoes, you should get that at a non-fast food place. Our university has some good mashed potatoes but they hand-make it in their kitchen.
I completely agree! Pickles really do take the flavor of a chicken sandwich to the next level. And it's hard to beat homemade mashed potatoes! Thanks for the comment!

I’m watching this and immediately wanting to get some Popeye’s Chicken from somewhere here in Los Angeles. I have only had their food about 3 or 4 times and it’s not bad at all. Chicken with potatoes and biscuits really resembles the basic “Thanksgiving dinner” and seems very fancy.
I'm not a fan of dipping in the mash, either. It's fun watching you guys try all these chains, but you definitely need to get into the smaller om and pop spots that really do the best food. Not sure which area you are in, but each region of the US will have its own specialties.

Dipping biscuits in mash potatoes is definitely a southern thing my whole family does it and we also dip the chicken in it too alot of people unfortunately can't cook chicken that well. And it's dry so dip chicken in mash potato &gravy covers the dryness and is yummy I'm from Louisiana and people dip biscuits all the time. Love to eat chicken with hot sauce or pickled jalapeños

Bang on with how restaurants get their fried chicken so juicy---a lot of places brine it. I used to work at a Carolina style fried chicken place, and we brined our chicken overnight in a combination of salt, water, and apple cider vinegar. Made it really juicy when it was cooked, and added some good flavor.

I love Popeyes chicken but I usually get the shrimp box that comes with a biscuit or 2 & I open the biscuits & make shrimp biscuits with it so good. I don't ever dunk my chicken in my mashed potatoes but I will sometimes dip it in just some gravy, no mash. Their chicken sandwich is really good & Chick-fil-A marinates their chicken in pickle juice which makes it tender & juicy. My brother n law worked for Chick-fil-A all though high school & college. So I'm sure Popeyes probably marinates theirs too. They have a good breakfast also like most of our fast foods. Chick-fil-A, Taco Bell & Hardee's( Biscuits N Gravy with gravy on the side with hash rounds that sit in the gravy is really good or try one of each kind of biscuit) has really good breakfasts. Popeyes side dishes aren't very good, the red beans & rice is OK. Popeyes food has a little heat to it because it's a Cajun( New Orleans Louisiana)fast food restaurant. They have good sweet tea which u should try half sweet tea half lemonade called an Arnold Palmer which is good that cuts the sweet tea that's really sweet. I like sweet tea with a lemon wedge added to it.
Thanks for sharing! Your shrimp biscuits idea is genius! Who needs just a regular biscuit when you can level it up! Thanks for all the other recommendations we will definitely try some of those when we next visit. We haven't tried a Taco Bell yet which might be a good place for us to try!
Thanks you for the suggestion, we didn't know the shrimp was good! we will try that next time.. We have just uploaded a new video on shrimp and grits, if you have time to check it out!
Hello its Marcella again , In Louisiana you can try a place called Sweet Potatoes its off the path of where most people go so, ask someone where the restaurant is located. There is also a restaurant called Diggy's. Or Dizzy's
"Raising Canes ".. They serve fresh chicken. Chicken fingers, Crinkle cut fries, Texas Toast, Coleslaw, a drink and The Sauce. They added a sandwich to the menu .... They do one thing... Chicken .... Great chicken.
Popeyes originates in Louisiana. While in the USAF I was stationed in central Louisiana. There were salt pill dispensers every where to counter dehydration. this was the early 1980s. So, yes, food from the south is salty.
I've heard people rave over Popeyes for so long, but alas, I shall never know the delectable flavors. I've been a vegetarian for twenty-five years, but some things are so very tempting...
There are Popeyes in the UK. I forgot where, but you have them. Try googling to see if any are in your area. I heard Popeyes isn't as good outside of Louisiana. I haven't had it outside of Louisiana, so I don't know if that's true lol. I do think the spicy used to be spicier. I like their biscuits, but they're a bit dry and hard for my preference. If you could have that flavor with the consistency of Church's or Cracker Barrel biscuit, that would be ideal.
Thanks for the recommendations. We believe there are a few Popeyes in the UK but the menu may be slightly different. We will maybe try it when we go back to the UK for a holiday, we might try it out to compare to the USA version.
@@thebritstryremember to stir the red beans and rice. Saw others try the beans and rice and didn't look like they stirred it and were mostly eating rice lol
I love how he had to correct it to 'sandwich.' A chicken burger in America is something like the McChicken from McDonald's. It's ground chicken formed into a patty rather than a single piece of chicken like this sandwich from Popeye's.

My first time watching your videos, and I thoroughly enjoyed it! I'm sure you've seen by now that most people don't dip chicken or biscuits from Popeyes in their mashed potatoes and gravy. But next time you go to Popeyes, get sachets of honey or jelly for the biscuit. If you want to try fried chicken and gravy, check out Jollibees. That is what they are known for. You're both beautiful people! Enjoy your food journey!

I like their mac and cheese over the mashed potatoes. Their shrimp is really nice as well. Keep the vids coming.
Thanks you for the suggestion, we didn't know the shrimp was good! we will try that next time.. We have just uploaded a new video on shrimp and grits, if you have time to check it out!
@@thebritstry I
you guys are very fit for food reviewers.
Lol! Thank you for the compliment! We love exploring new foods.
Hello its Marcella again , In Louisiana you can try a place called Sweet Potatoes its off the path of where most people go so, ask someone where the restaurant is located. There is also a restaurant called Diggy's. Or Dizzy's
Thanks for the recommendation we are heading to New Orleans very soon! watch out for the up coming video of our trip!
"Raising Canes ".. They serve fresh chicken. Chicken fingers, Crinkle cut fries, Texas Toast, Coleslaw, a drink and The Sauce. They added a sandwich to the menu .... They do one thing... Chicken .... Great chicken.
We have never been! thanks for the recommendation!
Love it! Nice to meet you!
Thanks for watching!
I absolutely love your accent 🤗🤗
😊 Thank you for watching and commenting!!
The first trick is to find a good Popeyes , sometimes it can be hit or miss..
But when ya get a good one, it's devine.
If you guys are traveling, check out Terry Black’s bbq in Texas you’ll fall in love with the brisket
We will add this to the list of places we visit when we head to Texas, thanks for the suggestion.
Thanks for the suggestions! We have just been to Terry Blacks in Austin Texas! Our Terry Blacks BBQ video will be uploaded this afternoon!
Popeyes originates in Louisiana. While in the USAF I was stationed in central Louisiana. There were salt pill dispensers every where to counter dehydration. this was the early 1980s. So, yes, food from the south is salty.
Thank you for sharing your experience! It's always fascinating to hear stories from different parts of the country.
I've heard people rave over Popeyes for so long, but alas, I shall never know the delectable flavors. I've been a vegetarian for twenty-five years, but some things are so very tempting...
Kudos to you for being a vegetarian for so long! Thank you for watching.
You two are delightful!
Thank you for your kind words!
loved this!
I'm so happy you loved it! Thanks for watching!
Try Fry the Coop. Best fried chicken sandwich outside of Nashville in Chicago.
Thanks for the advice! we will check out Fry the Coop next time we are
There are Popeyes in the UK.
The thing about Popeyes is you have to eat it on-site. If it gets cold, it gets nasty real quick. When it's hot and fresh, it's heavenly.
Thanks for the advice! The burger was nice! and the biscuit was also delicious!
Afraid I'm gonna gain weight watching you two try alll the goodies ... I watch an episode or two and then I'm starving! ha!!!
Lol! us too!!! 😂😀
Next time you go to Popeye's you need to get the "Rice and Beans" and fries.
We are going to take your advice and try the rice and beans and also the fries, and film a part 2 now we have some proper advice!😀
The mac and cheese is great there
@@thebritstryremember to stir the red beans and rice.
We call them chicken burgers in the UK, which is why we kept making the mistake of calling them burgers, and not sandwiches!
Lol, first time seeing you guys , too funny!
Thanks for watching!🤗
Pickle makes the sandwich tis crazy! LOL GReat job!
Thanks for watching!
Have you tried chicken and waffles yet?
Not yet! we definitely want to try this soon! we are actually heading to New Orleans to try some local dishes there, we will try and find chicken and waffles there. Thanks for watching
those popeye's biscuits are on another level
We really enjoyed them but we have also recently tried Biscuits in New Orleans, Here is the video if you have time to watch. ua-cam.com/video/rmEjJPpGoc4/v-deo.html
Try churches chicken they usually located in urban areas and the honey butter biscuits are the best biscuits i ever had.
Gotta get the Cajun sparkle
Thanks for the advice! and for watching.
I order the coleslaw and put it on the spicy chicken sandwich. It’s so good
That sounds like a pro-move we need to try! Let us know if there is anything else we should try? thanks for sharing
Not sure if california has Churches Chicken over there, but if they do, give them a try . Their buiscuts are the Best.....
We have just checked an it does! we will try an get there soon! thanks for the tip.
The biscuits are quite nice with honey and butter.
Thanks for the recommendation, we did try this in New Orleans on our recent visit. Here is the video of you have time. ua-cam.com/video/C0AR7VY8FKM/v-deo.html
It’s not a burger guys, it’s not a burger it’s a chicken sandwich
So we are learning!🤗
When I first had Popeye's in the 70's living in Georgia, they had regular, spicy and extra spicy. I now live in New Hampshire and they don't have extra spicy 😢.
The extra spicy version sounds like it would be a winner!
Sweeties, the spicy chicken sandwich from Whataburger is the best 🙂
Thanks for the recommendation! We will have to try Whataburger next time we see one.
@@thebritstry 🙂 You will love it
You do not dip your chicken in the mashed I never heard of such a thing😂😂😂
Lol!! It was delicious, give it a try😂
This is actually....cute. I'm subscribing. Red beans and rice or dirty rice is bomb. I'm in the south but yet to see dipping in the potatoes.
We really appreciate your support and for subscribing to our channel! We completely missed the rice and beans side but next time we will definitely try it! We are actually in New Orleans this weekend and will report back with a video soon. Thank you!
Thank you for your kind words they mean a lot to us. We'll definitely take your suggestions on board and hopefully report back soon! Thanks for watching!
We have just upload a review of jollibee! ua-cam.com/video/jRtrYF8CNHY/v-deo.html Let us know if there is anywhere else we should try?
Get the red beans and rice!! It’s so good. I’ve never had the mashed potatoes from Popeyes🤔
Thanks for the recommendation! I'll make sure to try the red beans and rice next time.
Love that chicken from Popeyes! Not a fan of other fried chicken establishments.
PEOPLE HAVE DIED FOR THAT SANDWICH... LOL
The best way to marinate chicken if you're going to fry it is marinated in pickle juice that is what Chick-fil-A does
Thanks for sharing that information.
I love that they share 😂😂😂🤗🤗
Thank you! Sharing is caring, and I'm glad you appreciate it too.
