As an American who got one of their sandwiches early on, I held my breath to see your reaction. I'm SO glad you enjoyed this taste of Louisiana! And yes, it's 100% true that there were fights over them running out with many locations requiring cops to help with traffic/crowd control when it first rolled out.
TBH, I can't imagine driving AND taking a train AND queuing up for 30 minutes for it since there's a Popeyes that's only a 10 minute walk away with, at most, a 10 minute wait inside.
I was disappointed you didn't get any sides with it, though! Red beans & rice, cajun fries, or their mashed potatoes and gravy are worth a second visit.
Also, be sure to ask for packets of Cajun Sparkle seasoning, especially since you like spicy.

The sauce on the sandwich is a remoulade sauce, a staple of Cajun/French cooking. If they have them, you should definitely get the red beans and rice side dish. Not as good as homemade red beans and rice but some of the best you will ever find in a fast food type place. Now you have finally had what we call a biscuit(savory thicker bread product) vs what we call a scone(slightly sweet, airy bread product) vs a cookie(sweet, thin bread product).

Those chicken tenders were actually small to moderately sized. In the US they typically run at least a third to a half again as big as those. The biscuit looked a little thin to me. They're a but more fluffy here. It's like they didn't use enough yeast with yours. Oh, the Deluxe version of the sandwich in the US usually has tomato on them as well. And that goes for for chicken sandwiches across most fast food chains. Burger King had a damn good chicken sandwich this year called the Ch'King, and it was even better than their previous sandwich. I think it had a special sauce on it or something, but it was pretty tasty.
But on a side note, your use of the word "Burger" only applies to Hamburgers here in the States, kinda for obvious reasons. Everything else is just a sandwich. This weird naming convention kinda reminds me of my Filipino ex-girlfriend who thought us Americans only ate Burgers and Pizza. So if she thought that every sandwich was a burger, then I guess that explains that. 😄

Popeyes is my favorite fast food chicken place. I always get the spicy option. I love the American version of the BBQ sauce (I'm assuming you're getting the same there). You missed one of the best things about Popeyes--THE SIDE DISHES. They have a version of Cole Slaw that I like (some complain that it's too sweet). My favorites are Red Beans & Rice (but some don't like it), and a discontinued item called Cajun Rice. It was very popular so I don't understand why they replaced. Of course they have Cajun Fries and Mashed Potatoes. I usually get the 3 piece meal that comes with a biscuit and a side item. Maybe when they become more established in the UK they will add the limited edition items like Cajun Shrimp, Crawfish, Etoufee.

Absolutely agree. Chick-Fil-A has the best chicken sandwiches. I wasn’t a fan of Popeyes and that’s my favorite fried chicken place. Popeyes has the best chicken though and their fries remind me of a watered down Checkers fries (still really good) and the red beans and rice is awesome too. My go to choices when ordering. 2 breasts, spicy, cajun rice with some of the gravy on it (after the take over most of the stores stopped doing that for me so if the rice looks a bit too dry I'll get the mashed potatoes and gravy) and a Coke was a standard lunch for me when I lived in Louisiana. They have come down a notch since being taken from Al Copeland, but they are still the best chicken place to me.
I do like the tenders as well, but I prefer the skin.
Back in the day, every order came with at least one biscuit. Prefer mine hot, fresh, and with lots of butter.

The great thing about having Popeyes leftovers is that they still taste good for a few more days. So many chicken places, their chicken starts tasting "off" by the next day. Or even by the time it turns cold the same day you buy it.
Biscuit quality seems to very hit-and-miss, depending on where you buy them. I was becoming very disappointed with the biscuits in my area one summer, and wondered if it was happening in the entire chain. Then on vacation to the Ozarks I picked up some dinner at a Popeyes in Little Rock, Arkansas, and my faith in their biscuits was gloriously restored.
In college I participated in a student filmmaking project, which was a music video. It was very hot outside, and the soundstage did not seem to have any air conditioning. They actually had to start re-doing the makeup for some of us, while we were in an extended holding pattern waiting for the "star" of the project to arrive (she was filming a game show appearance, as a contestant, I believe). Anyway, after hours of waiting, and then dancing through our choreography from one angle, and then from another angle, section-of-song by section-of-song, and whatever else was required, we took a break while the director and his assistants reviewed what they had filmed and decided what else they wanted. It was already dark out, getting late, so a couple of assistants ran out to Popeyes and the nearby market, and brought back a load of chicken and apples to feed us. We stood outside the soundstage in the heat of the Los Angeles night, relishing every bite of that unexpected dinner, being careful not to mess up our makeup or costumes with chicken grease!

In America, if you order it Deluxe, it means lettuce, tomato and mayo, Always.
Ketchup, mustard, pickles and onions are typically standard, making adding the mayo and veg…the deluxe version.
Add BBQ sauce and fried onions, suddenly it’s southern.
Cheese comes with or can come without, same as bacon or any sauce on the bun.
Just saying that we view beef burgers and chicken sandwiches as ‘the meat and bread’ then just customize the rest, according to popularity of ingredient combinations.
A chicken sandwich varies by which bread is used, cooking preparations (fried, grilled), the oil it’s cooked in, the seasoning, the veg and condiments added and the freshness timing overall.
Another thing to keep in mind, regardless of country, some people may not make the food correctly or to your liking (unseasoned fries, processed chicken, too much cheese, etc.
To us, we could make a good burger or sandwich at home Or we could substitute it will a similarly good chicken sandwich made by someone else with ingredients we may or may not have at home.
Popeyes will always batter chicken better than I can at home.
    JS
