I’d had a few androids and not long before it was released I’d got my hands on an s3 but as soon as I saw this phone it was so SLEEK. Like for the time,it was definitely the BLEEDING edge and I had to get it immediately. This and the Note 3 were peak Samsung. Or I would say the s4 and Note 4 but the s5 was really just a chunky s4 in my opinion. A lot of people say the S7 and phones like that were peak but I feel like that’s when they started kinda wanting to be more like Apple and I prefer them this way.
The title of this video is misleading - this is actually just a retrospective of the Galaxy S4, not an in-depth video into how the phone performs with regular usage in 2024.
Yes, the title is clickbait, but everyone knew that. You can't use an S4 in 2024 because its 2G/3G and VoLTE is required for voice and activating a phone.
@@matthewjbauer1990 In canada i can still use it with lineageos, but its incredibly show (as expected), i say the oldest phone you would want to use is maybe the s7 at the absolute lowest
In high school I was an LG boy all the way. One day I remember my friend whipped out her new phone and let me tell you it looked so bright and vivid. The colors legit popped. It was a galaxy S4. Say what you want about Samsung but 2011 through 2014 was peak. The galaxy S5 was when Samsung really hit their stride. Then they tripped with the S6.
@@wateriver The S6 was terrible. I think their top 3 S phones as far as bleeding edge factor would be S4,S8 and S21 ultra. Everything else has just been idk. The S10 series was nice but awkward in my opinion.
One of my all time favorite phones. I rocked this back in the day and swapped bstteries constantly. I dont think I ever used the charge port on the phone. Loved the S4.
The S4 was my first new smartphone. I paid it with my money and my parents added to their Verizon contract. I remember liking it but the storage I dislike because it was 16GB (if I remember correctly) and with the Samsung and Verizon bloat I had 8GB to play with. Then I learned you can disable some bloat and move apps to SD card by default made it a really good phone. To this day my favorite case is the SView and saw they still making some for S24 Ultra and half tempting getting it
There’s was black edition S4 which had the faux leather back as that year’s Note also had. I bought a replacement black edition back and put it on my regular S4. Fixed the glossy and slippery issue
4:43 Well my dad had a S4 and he bought it from Korea. That phone's back had leather kind of texture if I'm correct and also it had an actual antenna like wth.
I had this phone with the S View cover and I remember when I turned it on for the first time and I was shocked by the screen. It was so vivid and bright
I remember I was working at T mobile at the time a ran like two likes when I got the call my all white S4 came in from the employee purchase thing those was the days all cell phones looked different
My second smartphone… my bestie and I both had one and we LOVED beaming things… it’s the one thing we miss the most out of any phone today… I wish they would really go crazy and bring it back
The 1st real Smartphone I ever used was an S4 Active I got at a job 2014. Parallel to that for personal use, I was using a Moto G4 or G5 and there was no comparison. But I am cheap and to this day, I buy all my phones unlocked on cash, sometimes refurb if needed for price. I wish there is a phone made by Samsung or Moto the size of an S4 that has a 4k 90Hz+ display that is decently fast. I'd buy it in a heartbeat as most phones except for flips are too big for me.
Feature where you could record yourself while recording with back camera was eventually reintroduced around 2020 or 2021 , can't remember exactly , but is a good way to video blog things without needing two separate devices. I'm guessing that some 3rd party camera software kept it alive in a mean time , but it's neat feature to have , when you need it. Also , S4 had feature if the phone rings and you turn the screen to face any surface , it'll silent the phone and if already on the screen , it'll assume that you want it to be silent. I found that feature very useful , but , depending on the phone case and did it utilize gyro to be able to tell if you wanted it silent , I can also see it being a bad thing in some cases where you didn't want to accidentally miss the very important call.
The galaxy s4 with that amoled 1080p display aghhh. I’ll never forget going into sprint and pixel peeping like godDAMN. I busted my ASS and worked a few weekends and bought one off Craigslist for probably 350 at the time idk. I remember proclaiming that phone as my best friend 🤣 that was the phone that launched me into the dark next 7 years of absolute phone addiction where I would go out to eat with all my friends and be the person who just blandly talks but never actually stops messaging and checking instagram 🤣 kinda bittersweet but this phone compared to most other options at the time was ADDICTIVE.
Dang.. I used the thermometer and humidity sensor almost daily on this thing. I was outside often in college band and Boy Scouts so I wanted to know the temperature without having to go through a weather app.
I mean it literally was my first ever real smartphone… I dont count that weird LG thing I had before… After that I had 2 Samsung S5 ( lost my first) , then I got my dads S7 Edge when that was already Old ( yes I used a S5 for waay too long probably) , then The edge Dropped and bye bye screen… 2 years with an LG velvet later and that thing was struggeling to keep up with what I wanted to do with it… so I finally said: screw it, Lets just spend big One time and be done for the next years! And thats how I got my Iphone 13 Pro Max. Well I have a 16 now but that was basically just because I really WANTED that for its 8 gigs of Ram … The 4 gigs kinda started to annoy me in small ways( I didnt even want it for AI, just for… you know, the RAM itself…) and yes, doubling the RAM IS very much noticable…obviously…
I tried using it with lineage os 18, but UA-cam was lagging while watching 720p60FPS, SO it's unusable for me. Maybe you have snapdragon version, exynos version is really unusable nowadays. Samsung Galaxy s7 thought... THAT'S THE PHONE. I still watch UA-cam on in when my main phone is charging.1080p60FPS at 2x speed? No problem for s7, and that display is just gorgeous 😍
S4 was my second ever smartphone. (1st being the iPhone 4S) And this phone was wayyyyy ahead of its time. It will forever hold a place in my heart.

Really agree with this! A heck of a beast phone during that time

@idk7420 my backup phone for authentication purposes still works but is very slow, s6 edge

I miss my note 10, and I personally loved the s6 edge
Last time I was this early, the Galaxy S4 was brand new
That was so funny I forgot to laugh
I just watched your 2021 S4 video this morning, perfect timing 😂
That phone still has a beautiful display!

Even though this phone is no longer updated. But the custom roms can help the Galaxy S4 run well and start a new life
First android phone I ever got. Granted it didn't last as much as I hoped but I loved it
I loved this phone, I still have a copy and it still works^^ Great video!
I went from a Blackberry to this exact phone and this thing just blew me away.

watched ur S5 review earlier, are you on a marathon to review all galaxy phones in descending order ... down to the S1 ?
Dang.. I used the thermometer and humidity sensor almost daily on this thing. I was outside often in college band and Boy Scouts so I wanted to know the temperature without having to go through a weather app.
Still my favourite phone till this day. I miss my Purple galaxy s4
miss the era when samsung literaly caters to everyone, they had the J, Young, or the Ace series (the smallest one) its like what nokia tried to do
My third ever smartphone, first being a Nokia, then LG G3, then this.
The MOST SOLD Android EVERRR!!!
Sold more than even the S3. Yes.
Sheesh how does your videos look so pretty like that?
But I remember the camera shutter was sooooooo slow. Took like 3-4 seconds to take a single photo in compared to my iPhone 5
My mother had this while my father had the iPhone 5.
All the sensors my adhd loves sensors😂 I need to buy this phone just because
Best looking Samsung phone with a bezel, followed by the S6 in my opinion.

I typed this comment and watched this video on my S4 With lineage OS 21

Now make a video about using a samsung galaxy mega 6.2 in 2024
So I guess next is the S3
Now why would you use one in this time
Samsung only got worse since they got rid of DJ Koh I believe
5 inches are quite small by to day standards 😂😂😂
4 inches is significantly smaller than 5 inches😂😂😂😂
