Childish Gambino has a variety of music. He started out rapping like 3005, Sweatpants, Worst Guys, & Bonfire. Also Donald Glover (Childish Gambino) is an actor, writer, director, comedian, dancer, rapper, and singer. The illustration of talent in the dictionary is a picture if him. His music tends to be deeper than the surface level it comes off as. Like this song is about a young black man growing up without a father getting into killing, womanizing and drugs. No one cares until he gets into trouble i.e. the guy getting shot. Now everybody is into it.
What I love about it the most is the juxtaposition of the lyrics talking about ruthless crime life and the upbeat swing presentation. The more I watch it the more layers I see and appreciate it. At this point I think it's nothing short of genius.
His “this is America “ video is like an indictment on the rap industry that’s wayyy ahead of his time. Fun fact “Childish Gambino” is what he got when he put his name into the Wu-tang name generator 💪
noticed that the " Little Foot Big Foot" cadence/rhythm is constant... throughout the transition of Young Nudy... who seems to be looking back and incorporating rhythms from yesterday's music... everything is connected...the "shuckin' and jivin' minstrel show artists had to present to eat. You hit the nail on the head concerning our desensitized outlook toward ourselves...and, respectfully, it's the Hines Brothers!!! "Those who don't know their history are doomed to repeat it." Levels, levels, levels!!!
Donald Glover/Childish Gambino is one of the great millennial geniuses imo. He can act, he can do comedy, he can produce music, he produces amazing television. A true creative. I assume your other video is going to be This Is America. I recommend also doing Redbone.
awaken my love by him is one of my favorite albums of all time, i definitely recommend checking out a few songs from there or even the whole album, he’s incredible!
Because the internet is one of the greatest rap albums of all time and awaken my love is if you transported some ole soul music to modern day technology. An amazing artist w a wide variety to check out, should listen if you haven’t before fs
The Single lafies motif in the dance was actually taken from Cab Calloway which is the strongest influence I see in this piece. It's such a cool reference I'm buzzing for it😁👌✨️Shame the audience wasn't interested until somebody gets shot
The line, "Move so smooth like butter, like shea" is probably a reference not only to shea butter, but also to the choreographer of this video, Shay Latukolan. It might be a coincidence, but I'm guessing it's not.
You guys should definitely check out more gambino he has an insanely impressive discography, covering multiple genres. A good start would probably be something from his critically acclaimed album Because the Internet, I highly recommend 3005 or sweatpants and they both have dope music videos. My highest recommendation though is some of his old mixtapes cause this man was rappin rappin, American Royalty and Dream/Southern Hospitality/Partna Dem are certified hits🔥
Listening to the hook Was the east part. Listening to the lyrics of the song What's the hall part. But when I finally understood what he was saying that Was some heavy stuff he was saying.😢😢😅
@BeersBars 😅 no, I get that, and I've been watching almost the whole time! Yall make it fun to go back and listen to classics...but...how?😅 where were yall those years??
I actually personally didn’t like the random young nudy feature on this track. Total switch up and I didn’t think he even had much interesting to say. Too random and didn’t really suit the wrong. He could’ve put that feature in a completely different song for me, but I’m not a famous musician so maybe idk what I’m talking about lol.
Yeah, it doesn’t flow well musically, but he’s trying to say that people have been living this way for decades. From these days, fatherless boys turned to the streets and crime to make a living, and it still continues until this day, which the feature talks about. And no one cares or is interested until there is violence and death.

Couldn't have said it better.
