Nah you was onto something about that metaphor. Definitely some layers with them only vibing to the song after the violence popped off

I'm gonna share this reaction with my mom. I think she'll be personally offended by that 70s comment 😂. Everything else was spot on though! 👍❤️

There's a layer of meaning about glorification of violence in hip-hop. Nobody really listened to him until he was involved in the death of another black man. Then everyone loved him. Even though the lyrics have been very serious all along.

30s and 40s that suit he has on and the dance moves that are like single ladies goes back to the “Big Band” era of the 30s and the performer/conductor Cab Calloway

I have to disagree MJ’s music gets tons of play look at his streams also he is still The Best Selling Solo Artist by a wide margin for a reason also new generations and future generations know who Michael Jackson is when your timeless you don’t have to rely upon a small minority to know or listen to your music but imma tell you look out for the MJ Biopic that’ll be released in theaters April 18, 2025!🤝🏽👑✨💯

I'm no expert, either, but my guess for the setting would be maybe 1930s or even 1940s? Someone better informed can definitely correct me on this, but the jazz music makes me think it could possibly be even earlier like the 20s and the outfit of Johnny and the Pipes wear makes me think they are anywhere between 20s and 40s with the zoot suit popularity reaching peak in the... 40s? And it was considered a bit of a rebellious, anti-establishment gesture to wear the zoot suit in the 40s in the US where fabric and materials were restricted b/c the they were required for the war effort.
I think that's about all I know, but I'll probably look this up for myself to see what else I missed. And thanks for this reaction!

Good job! So, I'm a 'white' American, but I'm pretty sure I understand what this song/video is about. I've never seen it in any other comments, and I've done the research. < This story is a perfect mix of musical genre and style, as it pertains to black American's in the early 20th century adapting to a style of entertainment that made white people feel happy and safe. While some very proud and serious purists condemning the new ART as pandering to stereotypes maintained their vigilance, ultimately, the stereotype sold more copies...to all races in equal numbers. What's the lesson?

Have you watched Atlanta? If not, I’d highly recommend that too, one of my fave shows in recent memory.
