i rahter liked the Gangrel Mariners. the only vampires to realise "hey, we dont need to breath, and sunlight cant reach the bottom of the ocean, how about we make our homes there"
Ah, my clan. I find I have to disagree with your assessment of a Gangrel's trustworthiness. My kin are by far the most trustworthy of the Kindred, for we understand well the line dividing us from the rest of the Kindred....a line reinforced by many in these Final Nights. After all, you think the Gangrel does not notice when he is treated and called a dog, performing services for others and being fed scraps because most of the other clans find us to be of lower worth? Oh, we notice well....and yet, we will remain by the side of these supposed friends. We recognize the manipulative nature of the Kindred, moreso than others thanks to our close relationship with the Beast. To treat a Gangrel poorly is to kick a wild wolf and will yield the same result. But to treat a Gangrel well and as a friend, as many Kindred are coming to find, will buy you a loyal and true friend who will face the Final Death proudly beside you. Therein lies my clan's trustworthiness: how well you can trust us is a mirrored reflection of how well you yourself can be trusted. We defend those in our packs with the utmost ferocity, and we accept only those into our packs who we trust to do the same.
Ah....my first t clan that I played. Nothing like being a viking biker that loved to battle and to drink blood mixed with beer for you're first character. Also one of my favorite clan because they have more honor then the whole of the vampire race.
I have to admit, i love your voice, it keeps me interested from start to finish. Finally a gangrel video! my personnel favorite vampire clan. My last character had frenzied quite a bit and resembled a large cat. I became the sheriff before we took a break. I had 6 disciplines, cruac, vigor, celerity, proten, animalism and resilience. I'd maxed protean and vigor, with celerity and resilience at 4. of rose and thorn, pack blooded and swarm mind, just made me even more terrifying haha.
Very informative, and very accurate.. but although the Gangrel joined the Camarilla in the final nights, they left after a short time because of the manipulation and the corruption that they found in the Camarilla, which as you explained at the end is why they became separate, from The Camarilla, The Anarchs and The Sabbat.... not saying your wrong or that I'm criticizing, just putting out useful information..
I must say that the gengrel were my third choice before the Malkavians and the Nospheratu (I love outcast, can't you tell?) But your description of them all have changed my view, and I thank you for that. This kind of passion in lore seeking you exhibit is quite delicious to hear.
This series truly guides me back through a saga i haven't seen so deeply in detail. You're a great storyteller, in your way of bringing the history it is very easy to taste the atmosphere of this world. Thank you!
Interesting that both malks and nossies have obsfucate, easier to at least appear as though they've gotten the hell out of dodge when a gangrel does frenzy
Ennonia is the founder of Gangrel, her sire Lillith. Lord Ashton was a B.S. story about the founder of Clan Gangrel. Un- fortunately we are tied to the Ravons Clan. Ravanna and Ennonia share the same sire, Ennonia wanted nothing do with Ravons founder. He pursuing her caused the war between them and Clan Gangrel & Ravons. I am Gangrel and Proud.
+Cole Burns by clothes i assume you mean costumes or cosplay, No that is mostly for live action role play or larping. in table top rpgs you purchase your preferred systems core rule book (or download its free quickstart guide) and sit at a table (or on some online program such as role 20 or fantasy grounds) and roll dice according to the rules in the material you are following, thats a very rough generalization. Its basically make believe with rules, for adults.
@@coleburns5497 you get to play someone other than yourself, there's a freedom in that, and besides the occasional bad rng I find it more enjoyable and engaging than a pc game or movie.
My favorite idea for a Gangrel is a literal Wolf of Wallstreet. I know that's not the typical idea and hard to pull off, but I just find it to be super cool. Being the "alpha" of a group of salesmen and feeding on sleepy folks in the office at night.
Although I don't see eye to eye with you on many RPGs, I still really enjoy your videos. The level of articulation alone is enough to keep me engaged. For example, I've never played this game but I've watched a minimum of half of your lore videos. Also hadn't realized I didn't subscribe yet....will do so now.
So is it true that the Gangrel are able to exercise a degree of control over their beast that few of the other clans can? I was reading the info on Ennoia and was curious about this?
Your thorough knowledge of the subject, your clean articulation and languid cadence lend a sophisticated quality to your voice. I would enjoy hearing you narrate classic horror. Search online for LibriVox. I do not believe they pay. But a performance there will compliment any voice acting resume.
Thanks for this awesome video. I play a city gangrel in a Vampire LRP on a monthly basis. He is very unique because he has a tie with a kindred from clan Assamite. Therefore, he is able to use Quietus (1 dot, until now...)
I am Clan Gangrel. Strange, as I enjoy company (small gatherings of friends). I have a feeling that my unlife will be filled with loneliness and heartache.
I am a Gangrel, while our clan walks the 🌎 you are ever alone. I too like going to the cities kindred gatherings, and met fellow clan mates and other clans.
no we may walk alone but we have something the other kindred don't . we have the pack. we met up once in awhile at a gather and tell our stories. we hunt together. we have little to fear in the night the werewolves we should stay clear of are the red talons. mostly cause they don't ever come out of their rages long enough to notice anything but blood flying in their eye balls.
This was the first class I played, and was my favorite. Damn near a quarter of a century ago. My friends and I had a soft cover "Vampire: The Masquerade" edition, that may have been the first edition, and it was released under "White Wolf" back then. I remember we had been playing Palladium games (Rifts, Heroes Unlimited) and just getting a character going could be soooo tedious with that system. We loved the straightforward character creation of "White Wolf" and the D10 system. Lol it was a bit of a 'GenX' targeted game back then. I would love to see if some of the old illustrations look dated today. I bet they do. We played Vampire and "Werewolf: The Apocalypse" both quite a bit. The other games- there was a "Mage" and "Wraith", and a "Faerie" now that I think of it-- they were good books, but made for weird game play. We were also young and impatient and probably should have given them more of a chance :D Fond memories...
Been trying to find someone to introduce me to the tabletop but VTM players are scarce near the US/Mex border, hahahah. I played Bloodlines and fell in love with the lore of Gangrel, nice vid.
Does a clan sire newcomers because they already demonstrate desirable traits (eg. will to survive, introversion and love of nature in gangrels)? Or does the act of being sired _cause_ those new vampires to gravitate toward those traits?
In general clans prefer to sire potential newcomers who have those desirable traits. They can be very picky. But there are few exceptions like the Nosferatu or Malkavians. Sometimes they sire someone simply to steal them away from the other clans just to screw them over out of spite or they are just nuts. Or in case of the Sabbat, newcomers can end up as canon fodder for the shock troops if the newcomer shows no potential.
Gangrel was one of the more physically oriented clans. I have never played one, and I do not recall that I have played any games with anyone who did in my area. Now to think about it, those players cared more about political struggle or the inner angst of the struggle against The Beast. Great review on a clan that I do not have any practical experience with. On another note, I do not see any White Wolf products on the shelves near my home in the US. How is it in the UK?
I have a question for you on Vampire kind in entirety. I won't give you a long question; it will be straight to the point. Can a vampire ever be kind for the sake of kindness? Or has that too been lost to them forever?
@mollytherealdeal I'm not a huge fan of the Gangrel in play as I often see them played in the same way each time. The UK is a bit woeful for White Wolf books in print, alas. Amazon and ebay are your friends.
Yay, the character I'm using now is of Country Gangrel origin. I even took him to the far East, got in touch with Bone Flowers, one of their members asked me to be his senpai (because Mark knows Tiger-styled Kung-fu). It's been 4 good months of hunting, lol.

I actually just finished watching your video on the Followers of Set and found it quite strange that the Setites, what with their Eqyptian heritage and love of snakes (not a lot of snakes in Sweden, at least not big and dangerous ones), would be found in Scandinavia. They really do get around. When wearing a suit and tie, I instantly think of you as a Ventrue. You're more Ventrue handsome, than pretty-boy-Toreador-looking and you seem quite calm, not showing what goes on in your head.
@clackclickbang His sire was acting as a scout for an ancilla Assamite and he opted in. He was offered some skills in 'moving around quietly' as long as he drunk some of her blood. Therefore, my char is bloodbounded... And has one dot in Quietus. Shebah (Arabic for Ghost, I learned) thought it was cool her scout could move quietly. :)
One thing I never got is being part of a clan: does that inherently shape one's beliefs or just one's nature? If it affects their nature, to what extent? Does saying, "The Gangrel" describe the official collective, the entire collective, or just what is typical of members belonging to the Gangrel clan? And is it really a clan, or more like a sub-species of vampire?
I would love to hear your take on Assimites, they are my favorite. I know almost everything on them and have my own opions sorry for bad spelling ,but you are so good at this i wish you were a story teller i could game with ever think of skype to do it if you do can i jion?
