So… I have a question about code enforcement on the shower pans… Do you 1. Have to fill your shower pan with water so inspector can ensure waterproofing? 2. If so, how are you accomplishing that to inspector’s satisfaction with a curbless shower? 3. If you don’t have to deal with inspection issues on pans in your area, what are some ideas that you have to deal with that issue with the alternative install systems like schluter, GoBoard, Wedi, etc…?

Interesting, in Memphis, TN we are required to fill pan (once ready) and schedule inspector to come. usually within a 24-48 hour period... inspector is the one who opens drain to check drainage and than inspects for any leaks... 2" depth minimum. not quite sure if that is at the drain or perimeter.

The point being that, curbless showers tend to cause inspection issues with certain substraghts... I can make a temp curb using schluter band, but it doesn't appear that Go Board has a good solution for this issue.

Question: say if I do a shower pan with mud mix in a pvc liner, do I still need to coat the shower pan with aqua defense or mapelastic, or whatever type of water proofing?
No, a rubber liner system has a clamping drain with weep holes. 👍
Steve, who are you insured with ? My insurer , State Farm will not insure bath remodelers. They only insure trade specific businesses, like Plumbers, electricians, etc. But not the Super Hero Contractors like us ! Thanks in advance

All set isn’t anything special. It’s just a modified thinset. It would mostly be okay, this stuff is an insurance that it does bond well

Laminate must be removed… the subfloor will rot.
