An amazing kit. I just received the ZM Focke Wulf Fw190 A-4. Every bit as spectacular as this one!

I'll admit it. I am a huge fan boy for ZM. Any company that's second model ever is my favorite plane of all time being the Ta-152 has got my vote. I have all their 1/32 models except the Hs-129 which unfortunately I have yet to get only because of my lack of $$. I love their mind set and their execution of everything to do with their models. Was lucky to meet them at the IPMS nationals in 2018 in AZ. So gracious they were.

Hartmann shot down a flight of American Mustangs in his first encounter, in Hungary I think. They were high and he was low. He spotted them first because of reflections off their bare metal air frames. He remarked that the Luftwaffe would never leave their fighters without camouflage. He maneuvered into position from below and behind, climbed up to their height and shot them all down in one pass surprising them completely.

Again, very nice video. Never heard of this brand of kits before this and your Do335-review. If you get around building it, I really would like to see a video about the finished kit

Hartmann was no nazi he was always breaking/ bending the rules, he even messed around with Hitlers cap but he was always the 'golden' boy!!

This is good but don’t neglect the other outstanding Zoukei kits of more original subjects, Horten, Raiden and the big twins etc. Zoukei also offers a range of after-market parts for their own kits, made for them by third-party suppliers. The customer service is excellent and they do seem keen to hear from customers. I do hope, after the loss of WNW, Zoukei keeps getting better. We need companies like this to show that 1974 kits in new boxes for the best part of £100 are not acceptable… especially if sold to unsuspecting young people. Thank you for doing the review!

Not quite the charmed life. Erich surrendered to American forces but was turned over to the Soviets. Was not released until 1955. Obviously affected by his imprisonment, he rejoined the Bundeswaffe but did not attain higher rank than Colonel, unlike that of Rall or Steinhoff. He voiced his displeasure or opinion when he felt like it, which didn't always go over so well with the new air force.

Happy to see you're on the mend Peter. Recovering from the rona is not fun... Keep on modelling mate and I'm looking forward to seeing your build of this very famous "Gustav". All the best mate.

Great review of what looks a pretty remarkable kit! 🙂
This current Covid variant that's been doing the rounds is a real sod! I got hit last month (across my birthday too!!), and I'm only just now (end of Sept) feeling ready to return to work..!! Hope you recover more quickly than I... 🙂
    Take care 🙂

I once made a 1/32nd Revell one of these to go with my Spitfire Mk2 of the same. It was nothing like this (detail and all that), but I do remember you could remove the engine cowl to see that German equivalent of the Merlin. Typical of the Germans to put it upside down, but clever on the fuel injection - nearly caught us out.
Hope you're better from the Covid - it's still around unfortunately - a colleague was hit hard over the summer and took quite a while to be firing on all cylinders again.

@@Peter-Oxley-Modelling-Lab I'll let you off this time, since it is very nice. By the way, this kit, excellent detail though it is, has one mysterious omission - no seat belts, not even in decal form. Not, something too complex to make, but considering the amount of detail in the cockpit, I find it a bit odd. I may try making a 3d printed seat with straps built in.

I started building it last week and it's a great kit, but I've found a lot of flash on the engine pipes and had to use more glue than I wanted to fit some of the engine parts (small gaps between the engine half and the top plate at the rear where the plate connects w/rear parts of the engine). One thing about ZM kits is the plastic is a bit thick in places so if you're going to show internal compartments, you'll need to thin out the sides of the fuselage/door panels. I've built their HS129 (also have two other SWS kits on the bench) and as with that kit...there's great detail but most of it is hidden. I'm thinking about opening up the fuselage like they do w/tank models to show some of the detail as well.

Peter, you mentioned this might be a kit that might very well get built. Just wondering what the ratio of kits bought to kits built is. I sometimes feel a bit guilty about the number I have that I know I will never get round to building but I still get a big kick out of buying a kit and unboxing it. Even better if bought from a shop rather than on the internet.

    • @Peter-Oxley-Modelling-Lab

I build a huge volume of kits, about 2.5% of those I review! (Ooops!) 🫣 don't worry, building takes a lot of time...there is no shame in it. See my IPMS Vids and you can see plenty I built. ☺️

It is superior in all areas except some of the rivet detail. But I wouldn't buy the border now. See my border review here:

I paid £80, which us about $87 USD. They will sell plenty. If you want cheaper, get the old Revell 109 G, (and spend $100 on third party addons to bring up the detail level to be the same).
