Very thorough. Nice!
Thanks Craig
Great topic for a new build, dad flew against the 109 in P-47's over Germany. Thanks for sharing and always your work is impeccable , the same with your sharing your thoughts during the process
Thanks for that Ralph much appreciated 👍
That was an impressive demonstration of attention to detail and model construction skill. That DB 605 is a miniature kit on its own. Excellent job!
Thank you and at least the engine is an area in the kit that can easily be seen. I do like the lines of the late 109s with the cowlings closed though………
Loving it ... just managed to purchase this kit , glad your doing this build !
Nice kit! Great craftsmanship as usual Steve. Thanks for sharing again.
Thanks Ron 👍
Thank you - My kit has just arrived I will watch and follow with great interest
Good luck with it Ralph - be very careful with the engine bearers - they’re very fragile !
As always amazing job!!!
Thanks Michal 👍
I'm jealous already. Can't wait to see your completed build
I’m looking forward to it 👍
Splendid start here Steve, looking forward to part 2
Cheers Phillip 👍
Looks to be a very nicely made kit, and it goes without saying expertly assembled, 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
Cheers Pete 👍
This is an exciting build. I am very interested how the engine will fit to the fire wall. Great work as always Steve.
I think it will be a good fit Ralf-Ingo - no problems with fit so far.
Great start and a build that I will be following closely!
Thanks Hermann 👍
Very nice. Interesting kit with unique instructions.
Unique is the word Chris- still getting used to them 👍
Veramente bravo, lavori pulito con ottimi risultati. Un saluto dall’Italia
Grazie mille 👍
Thanks for doing this. Just bought kit a few weeks ago. Looking forward to getting started. Looks great! D
Thank you
Wonderful work
Thanks Steven 👍
great work on the motor ,very neat work
Cheers Mick 👍
Looks great Steve, like the craftsmanship .
Thank you 👍
I made the zukimura flying wing 292? Anyway be very careful of trimming bits the might be mounting bits...you might enjoy this model too ..there 2versions one with full engine and one with the engine outside frame bits..😀😀😀😀
Interesting thanks Roy 👍
Nice work Steve, enjoy your holiday.
Will do thank you 👍
Thanks!
Thank you Ralph for your support it’s very much appreciated 🙏
Great start Steve, the lower arm of the port engine bearer also broke on mine,as you said brittle plastic and I hardly touched it and it broke. Nevertheless lovely to build and not quite as well engineered as Tamiya but not far away, good observation on the coolant header tanks, as I recall from the factory they were painted RLM 02 but after engine rework and major overhaul were likely to be painted silver especially towards war end as any paint would do!! looking forward to the cockpit build. Will send pictures at the weekend.
We’ll have to be careful now Alan. I’m thinking that I’ll attach the engine to the firewall.at the three remaining struts, secure the pipe work through the firewall for extra support, then fit the remaining broken arm. Hopefully I’ll end up with a straight engine ,,,,,
nicely done
Thanks 👍
Nice work Steve, I’ve been waiting for this build before I tackle mine. I’m a novice builder and hope to mirror your work, won’t be as nice as yours but at least I’ll have no excuses and hopefully a half decent attempt. Thanks again
Hope you find the build videos useful John - most of all enjoy it that’s why we do this 😃
Love it!!!
Thanks Ben
hi Steve , further to last comment ,the Aims 109 engine placards and labels decals sheet is aims32do34 to compliment this kit , but it is only now coming out so may not be available yet , unless you want to use them near the end of the build , keep up the good work
Thanks Nigel I looked those up but they’re out of stock at Hannants. I’ll probably get some when I can 👍
very pleased to see you build this kit! interested to see how you get on with Z-m which are a notorious PITA to get to fit properly (I have the kit btw). best of luck!
There engine's are very tricky, I did the owls. Great job!!!
Thanks Paul 👍
nice work Steve , i see the company Aims are now doing decals of placards and labels for the engine/engine bay for 109,s in different scales , might be worth a look
I’ll take a look at those Nigel thank you 👍
Great start to the kit. I may be mistaken but it looks like Zoukei Mura has molded the piping and the smaller parts of the engine bearers "in scale" making them very fragile. I was keeping my fingers crossed that you wouldn't have the same problem cleaning up the plumbing, I half expected one of them to snap but thankfully none did. Looking forward to the cockpit build.
Thank you . I think you’re right about the scale of the parts but that’s not helped by what appears to be fairly brittle plastic. I’m definitely forewarned and forearmed 👍
I would not worry too much about the oil coolers being silver. From what I’ve read about all versions of the 109, there are various parts painted different RLM colours or bare silver, from the oil coolers, to the frame mounts. The interior cockpit colours were the same way, depending on what factory they came from. Seems to me any modeller has artistic license when it comes to what RLM colour goes where on the 109. I’ve found that somewhat convenient, leaves it up to the modeller’s preference.
Thanks Mike I’ll probably leave them as they are 👍
@@TheModelShed I think they look nice.
Great work as ever Steve, looking forward to getting started on this in next day or so and building along!
Have you considered maybe having a wing without the skin showing all that internal spar detail for this build?
Good luck with it Steve 👍
I watched this series when you first released it, and decided to re-watch it again. Just noticed a series 7 case when you were doing the wash. As I've recently gotten into warhammer mini painting I've gotten a few of those for that. Expensive brushes, what do you use them for in scale modeling?
I use my series 7s for detail work such as in cockpits etc. they’re the best brushes I’ve used - ever - and they last ages provided you look after them properly
@@TheModelShed Thanks for the response. In later episodes you mention brush painting details with Tamiya lacquers. Two questions about that. Why lacquers and not a water based acrylic? Second, the lacquers are ok to use on a series 7?
Very nice work on painting and assembly of the engine. You stated you have a separate airbrush for metallic paints, what is your motivation for that, needle size, tank size, ease of cleaning?
Cleaning mainly Marcus. I find it hard to get every bit of metallic flake out before using a flat colour in the same airbrush
Thank you for the feedback.
Hi Steve watching you hand painting lacquer paints can I ask please what do you clean your brushes with. Best wishes Vic.
When I hand paint lacquer I use gunze lacquer thinners or Hataka thinners (orange line). Depending on what is closest.
Hi Vic I use cellulose thinners - the same stuff I use to clean through the airbrush 👍
Looks a very nice kit but i cant think of a way of using that much detail like the pistons ?
Neither can I Jerry - no doubt someone will before long ..
Looking fantastic Steve. Do you thin the MiG washes before using?
no Les - straight from the bottle after a good shake.
@@TheModelShed thanks Steve. Really appreciate that
one question closed up wings ? -Closed up engine block ???
Closed up wings I think but open engine apart from the lower cowling
I think there are a lot of details in this set but somehow they forgot about riveting... For this reason alone, it is useless for me to buy such a model, moreover, when it costs around €110... I was expecting them to have riveting as well.
I don’t think ZM forgot - rather that they just decided that rivets wouldn’t add much to the kit. I’ve heard others make the same comment but it’s not something that bothers me TBH.
Loving it ... just managed to purchase this kit , glad your doing this build !
Enjoy it Ray - hope the series helps 🤞
