A good series, please keep ‘em coming. These videos should form part of the training course for manufacturers’ factories in China to make them realise the consequences of poor quality control of Mazak.

These videos are exactly what keeps me interested in the hobby. Very impressive work as usual, the idea of taking on a challenge like this is becoming ever more appealing.

Good evening Mr train man 😊 great follow up on the destroyed Hornby class 31s that looked like Vic Berry’s of Leicester 😆

The dedication to this cause is incredible; let it be known that you’re doing God’s work for the however many of these there are out there!
Personally I’m taking a different approach; I procured a green skinhead body some years ago and have since got parts together to build a chassis for it… of Airfix origin. The whole thing has cost me less than £20 - the chassis bits about £15 in total from rooting boxes and the body a fiver! - and has only taken a bit of hacking with side cutters to make the Hornby body fit. Looks great, will go great too thanks to that lovely 5-pole…

The Ex Yugoslavian company MEHANO was on to something when they made their model train chassis from plastic instead of Zinc which is prone to ''Zinc pest'' or ''Zinc rot'' They were doing it right, Those chassis you made for your own trains look so professionally made as though it came from the factory.

Loving these videos. Have a few 31's myself that need the chassis rebuild. Do you cover adding the lighting?

Great episode, much appreciated. What brand of “filler” was that, really did the trick.
    Thanks again

How many, if any of the class 31's made it into large logo blue livery?

Mazak rot was solved and eliminated, in the UK & Europe, back in the 1940's. Hornby China must of not read the memo about adding traces of copper into the Mazak alloy.

Next week plasticard rot , on a serious note I own quite a few zink replica guns and I fear mazak rot in the future happening to these so I can definitely sympathise with those who have locos with the problem , Hornby should have to provide replacement chassis blocks .

I think Hornby should have held their hands up to this problem and replaced every loco that had it... and made their chinese manufacturer accountable for the problem... as these locos were not cheap to purchase and it would surely have done them a lot of good to own up to it.
