hi, great video, i remember Horsham signal box as a child in the 60's have 2 hornby dublo signal boxes.great days when we could play with toy trains and not worry about too much detail, the N2 was great,
Nice! I live in France and there’s a disused signal box at Lyon Perrache which really reminds me of the Hornby Dublo one too! Quite an "art deco" style really.
Ive only just discovered your channel. I have boxes of this old dublo stuff. It was certainly built to last. What you have done with this is simply amazing.
I’ve been waiting for this one! Excellent work. Very inspiring stuff for the one I picked up for a few coins at an exhibition.. The paint stripping problem with Dublo stuff is something I’ve learned about having obtained a tatty Co-Bo body shell. I left the thing in isopropyl for weeks.. nothing happened. The basic Diall stuff worked but it needed constant agitation and topping up. I ended up going at it with a wire brush on my Dremel and even then it still didn’t all come off! Will look already once painted and weathered..
I've often wondered if one of those old boxes could be upgraded, so this was an interesting watch. The end result here is better than any modern ready-to-plant model IMO.
Great job! I suspect the prices of the Hornby Dublo signal box will now skyrocket... 🙂 Personally, I would use some resistors to limit the LEDs a bit, I think they are too bright. Thanks for the video.
It looks much better and the windows and interior detail bring it to life. The original R61 Tri-ang signal box would benefit from the same. They just look abandoned without the windows, like vandals have smashed them all. The brick sections look good too. 😊👍
I have one of these 'Generic' signal boxes and it has a name plate of 'Overton' which is near Basingstoke, in what would have been possibly Southern Region territory; though there are no current requirements for a signal box there today. I have seen very similar styled signal boxes at 'Hump' martialling yards reconstructed post WW II here in the UK, Northern Europe and in America, from where the design probably originates. There are at least three states in America with places called Overton, so its design origins depend more on what could be passed off in different markets to maximise profits from one set of tooling.
Similar style to the metal Station Building at West Allerton - an Art Deco station building - which could extended by inserting sections - and with sloping sections. The colour was not " beige and something: it was a creamish colour mainly. This was/ is the mainline from Liverpool Lime Street . West Allerton next up Edggehill Engine Sheds ( long gone)
That looks great now! I had sen these for various prices on eBay… considered them a bit too “art deco” but I would reconsider them now based on a strip and repaint. I have also struggled with distressing powders. I’m new to that level of model building and painting.
Not colourblind but colouruncoordinated 😂 my wife is probably the most vocal witness that this describes me perfectly. I used to have one of these I inherited from somewhere or other, I really wish I'd kept it after watching this...
@@user-sv4pj5jl8n very possibly. Although quite thick. Mine was chipped and scratched so needed to smooth it out. If it hadn’t been, might not of stripped it? But run into the dilemma of trashing a decent model 🤔
He uses Caustic Soda. “Soda Kaustyczna” I have used it once. It worked well. I have also used Nitro Mors which works fairly well. I have used ScrewFix own brand “No Nonsense” paint stripper which also works fairly well. I haven’t found a “strips all” type of paint remover.
Good to have you back again, that's a great transformation of a 60s model to upgrade it nice , how about Eastgate west box ? As a name? Heard it somewhere
All modern chemical stuff is crap. As i say and lots hate it " Its all made for use by office workers " Apart from paper glue their safety awareness with chemicals is limited. So the companies make it weak so they don't hurt themselves.

I adore that signal box and your makeover is fantastic!

Great makeover of an old model into something really worthwhile for your layout. From old toy to realistic modernist signalbox.
It’s giving me Doncaster North and South box’s vibes
Hi good morning I like what you have done to the Hornby Dublo signal box it looks really great. Thanks for this video Colin
Great result nigel, cheap brake fluid might have worked well. Great for stripping Lima diesels back to yellow
Cheers Russ

**looks around to make sure you're talking to me**
Thinking am I worthy of such a mega channel commenting on my scant offerings? 🤔😂👍
Wonderful. For metal automatic transmission fluid is a good paint remover. Brake fluid should also do the trick.

Good afternoon Mr train man 😊 That was really good bringing back a 1960 toy into something looks pretty good 👍🏻
Great job and a lovely result. It did look amazing in the bare metal though!
I know! Tempted to strip another one to use as a ???? Table ornament of sorts 🤔
The window framing did it for me, plus when it was completely stripped back to bare metal
Best regards
Nice to see a picture of Deal signal box in your video. Know it very well.
As for naming, if he controls a level crossing, it could be named after the street. If a junction, then junction .
Great work. I've been looking for a large-ish signal box to replace my LNER one when I have continental running sessions - this might be just the job
What an interesting project !
That’s ace!
Very creative!
You did a nice job of that
These buildings look like small airfield towers, or something from the states. Which era in the UK do they sit in?
Signal box name?
BINNS ROAD JUNCTION
homage to birthplace of Hornby double 0😊
name? how about cobbler's junction?

@@jamfjord The wife says to me, are you seriously considering going out in those trousers and that shirt? Please change 😂🙄😶😑
or older paint is tougher than crappy modern water base paint
How about Binns Road for a name?!
Brilliant job, or I think it’s called up scaling now by the trendies, although that’s a bit of a confusing terms with models!
Would the origional paint made a good primer coat?

Name for signal box - Rockwell.
Paul the restorer uses some kind of acid for dinky toy restorations to remove paint...

Hey Nigel, signal box name gotta be named after you !!!!!! How about Miserly???? Due to your thriftyness 😂
😂😂😂
DIALL is a byword for not very good DIY stuff.
