    Clarification! At 7:16 - you have two options here. You can play the kick drum in place of the last hi hat (AH of beat 3) and then begin the 32nd note pattern. (This is how it’s notated) You can also leave the hi hat in, but sneak the kick drum in as a 32nd note, just before the pattern starts. (This is how I played it.) Both sound extremely similar; so similar that I actually missed this in editing, and played the version with 4 hi hats in beat 3, and the 32nd note kick added after it. I don’t think this mistake justifies a re-upload, as both are totally valid ways to play the same thing, and it’s quite hard to tell them apart. Life goes on. 😉 Hope you enjoyed the lesson friends! 🤘🏼

    thanks for making these man. I used to be really serious about drumming but had to put it on the backburner for many years. Now I'm 36 years old - I can still do all the old stuff I used to do really well, but learning new stuff, especially more nuanced drumming, has been really difficult at this age. I'm starting to see that this is going to be a long journey of self development, and I'm trying to keep it fun - but ultimately, becoming a great drummer tales a lot of hard work and dedication and so I appreciate and recognize what you do and I'm making a commitment to myself to use the support and inspiration that other great drummers like you are providing. cheers and all the best.

    I wanted to reach out and say thank you, Adam! My daughter is the reason I began playing drums two years ago. You are one of the many heavy influences in my journey with music. It is that you share my understanding that it is about staying open, and not being afraid of different things. That changes you go through in life will undoubtedly change you and your beliefs. I believe that challenges, no matter how simple or difficult, are what improve us. To be the best version of yourself that you can be in every moment that you are fully present in. Life does not become any easier as we go, we become more thoroughly equipped to handle the adversity that will come to us, both individually, and as humankind. The most valuable ability we all have, is to be able to use the time between stimulus and response. That ability is to create, to not only react, but find a new way, or another angle. A little of a ramble, bit again, thank you very much for your insight and knowledge! Have an amazing day, my friend!

    I love how you like to change the perspective of the notes your playing EX: 2 sets of 4 notes or 2 notes with 8th notes it makes it easier to come up with different kinds FILLS in the sence of being creative and expanding on an already existing idea just felt different

      Glad to hear that Carlos! I’ve always thought it’s wisest to divide patterns down to their most basic subdivision. Even the craziest “64th note chops” could be simplified to 8 bars of 8th notes. It’s quite literally the same information, just demystified and less scary. Lol.

    So when you practice these fills do you need to rehearse them with your band a bunch of times or do you talk them through with your members? Does this go for all “learned fills” opposed to “feeling it” fills?

    Adam - how much are you thinking about your stickings in the moment when you're playing these kinds of fills? Great video!

    • @AdamTuminaro
      @AdamTuminaro  3 роки тому +3

      Zero. That’s like asking “how much do you think about each word of a sentence as you’re speaking.”
      You don’t think about the words, but the thought itself, and the words flow from there. Of course it doesn’t start this way, and you do need to spend time learning words/patterns.
      But long term, the goal is to not think about any patterns as you play them. If you’re still “thinking” about a pattern as you play it, it means that you haven’t yet internalized the pattern.

    I always get stuck learning these fills when speeding up the tempo. right at the end when u gotta do 2 kicks really fast in a row. 1’s almost always the last hit of the fill and then 1is always on the down beat of 1 when repeating. Is there some sort of trick to that?

    • @AdamTuminaro
      @AdamTuminaro  3 роки тому

      You got it! The biggest trick is actually understanding WHY there are “two kicks at the end”, or at least why it sounds that way. You explained it very well, and that tells me you understand exactly what’s happening. 👊🏼
      Beyond that, the answer is very simple and very boring: practice. 😉 If I had a magic truck, believe me, I’d give it to you!

    Out of curiosity, on the first fill, why did you decide to make it start with your left hand?

    • @AdamTuminaro
      @AdamTuminaro  3 роки тому +3

      Good question! It’s because that first left hand falls on the downbeat of 4, which is the normal place that you would play an accented left hand snare, for the backbeat of a groove. No harm done if you’re more comfortable using the right hand in this specific scenario. 🤘🏼

    • @mrshenanigans8487
      @mrshenanigans8487 3 роки тому

      @@AdamTuminaro, that makes sense. I was just curious because the right hand was free to be the start of it instead, so it seemed odd to me. Thanks for the reply. :D

    • @blado3442
      @blado3442 3 роки тому

      Well, the right hand is actually not completely free. The right hand is playing the hi hats right before the fill starts. I mean RIGHT BEFORE.
      So, if you think outside the box, you are actually starting with the right hand but, it's just not counted as part of the fill.
      The right hand is assisting in making this fill sound tight.
      Playing the hi hats right before you start the fill is what makes it sit just right.
      Correct me if I'm wrong!
      I am also learing it.
