    Also, does the front wheel come off easily so you can mount it on a roof rack?

    Thanks for your review! Got my son a Woom 4 for his 7th birthday and am afraid the gears might be a little too much for his lack of experience. He outgrew the little bike we bought him for learning to ride, so hopefully his first foray into bikes with gears won't deter him from wanting to ride more often.

    I'm conflicted on the best 16" bike. Leaning hard toward the Spawn Yogi 16 or some variation of the Belter bikes. The Cleary Hedgehog is cool too. My early 6 year old is all about BMX right now. He wants to jump and bunny hop, etc...

    What bike would you recommend for a little bit of everything. we frequent a dirt bike track, a bike park and ride around the neighborhood. Id say we will be spending more time at the bike park than the track if that makes a difference. My son will be 5 in a few months and small to average size. We definitely don't want a pedal brake and nothing too heavy.

    Hi, thanks for this helpful review! Were you able to increase the gain ratio on your Woom 3 bike? If yes, would you mind explaining what you did? I am concerned about purchasing this bike for fear that the gearing is too low for my son.

    • @TheBikeDads
      @TheBikeDads  6 років тому

      BordersOnAbstraction they actually have a sram automatix two spd hub you might like. We tried it and it works well for advanced pedallers. It does add some weight however. If single speed is what you are looking at, probably much easier to switch out rear cog than finding a chain ring that will fit.

    Why doesn't Woom make a 18 inch. Man I am having the hardest time finding a 18 inch bike as my child is in between the 16 and 20 in size. Any recommendations for a 18inch but with gears?!
    Thank You!

      TheOwensThree loads of small fitting 20’s. Match inseam to minimum seat height.

    This bike is at the top of my list right now for my 5.5 year old.. We like to go on 20 mile rides on paved and dirt trails. Right now he gets tired after 1 mile and we hook him up to a TrailerGater (bike tow) till he rests. We have road bikes, and all of our biking is distance riding. Anything will be an upgrade from his current 26 lbs Trek, but would you recommend the Woom 3 for longer rides with this gearing? I just want something that will allow him to keep up with us better. Is there anything else with more appropriate gearing near the same weight? We plan on buying him another bike in a year or two anyways, and handing this down to his little brother. Thanks and great review!

      @TheBikeDads  6 років тому

      Mike Burley Check his in seam. If he fits on the Woom 4 I would try that as you get benefits of geared drive train and bigger diameter wheels for long rides. Another good bike would be the small Isla Beinn 20. It has even thinner tires than the woom if pavement is your families jam.

    • @mike_burley
      @mike_burley 6 років тому

      I just read the Woom 3 discontinued the 2-speed hub (Automatix) which makes it less attractive for long rides. I'll take a look at the Woom 4 and Isla, thanks!

    • @TheBikeDads
      @TheBikeDads  6 років тому +1

      we had the automatix hub and we found the extra weight took away from the gearing advantage for our 5 year old...we stuck with the single speed. you could always put a bigger freewheel cog on the back if needed.

    • @mike_burley
      @mike_burley 6 років тому

      Thanks for your recommendation on the Beinn 20 small, I just ordered it. My son is exactly the minimum required size (18.5" inseam, 44" tall), and the lower gearing sounds like it'll be great for hills. The front wheel has a quick release pin and the fork is 100mm wide, so the fact that it'll go on my fork mounted roof rack is a huge plus.

    So, the crank of my kids Woom 3 bent so the chain doesn't track anymore. Can I just put any crank on it? I can't find any cranks on the woom website

    3.5 year old, strider balance bike expert, 41.5" tall, 17" inseam.
    I'm looking at Cleary Hedgehog but not sure if he will be bit small for it. Would like to know your thoughts.

      Nilu K he is too small for a 16 inch at this time. Go for a 14 inch. www.thebikedads.com/14-bikes/

    Thanks so much for your review! My daughter will be 4 in a few weeks and I'm trying to decide between the Woom 2 and 3. She's never had a balance bike, but has a 18.5" inseam. I want to make sure she can get a couple of years out of it. Which one would you recommend?

    • @TheBikeDads
      @TheBikeDads  5 років тому

      jazziedazzle the woom 2. Her inseam is too small for woom 3 for learning to pedal. Take cranks and pedals off and use as balance bike for best success before pedalling.

    To be honest, it looks like a BMX Bike. Is it or not? I mean, its great, i love the BMX Bikes, specially the Bikes form the old school 80s era. So, is it a BMX or is it a mixture between Kids Bike or BMX?

    • @TheBikeDads
      @TheBikeDads  5 років тому +1

      It has be designed specifically for kids. The only similarity to BMX would be the riser bar which in this case is used to put the kids upright for comfort and confidence when just learning to pedal. The geometry (low BB, 67 HA) is nowhere close to BMX.
