It would have been nice to see you install the part too or at least an install summary if straight forward. Still a great video as always, and much appreciated.

My 2012 Tacoma was making sound under load, went and checked play in that support bearing, and realized my bearing is shot and now I know what I need to fix on it now. Thank you for doing this video!!

Was it the rear bearing? My 2008 Tundra needed rear wheel bearings at 100k. It threw a speed sensor code. To rebuild the axle was costly due mainly to labor. Toyota had a kit with the axles preassembled for the most part. Even came with new backing plates. I always haggle the price and got a pretty good deal.

@weshallnotforget2948 no, it wasn't a wheel hub bearing, this is the front portion of the drive shaft support bearing at the union near the transfer case (4x4) no wheel speed sensor code there. But it is nice to know that if your wheel bearings are going out, a wheel speed sensor code triggers to help identify and diagnose the issue. My taco has 150k and didn't anticipate I having to replace the drive shaft support bearing.

@@jbbarron80 I thought the noise came from the center bearing. I had it checked during an oil change. It wasn't it. It made a a droning noise under load coming up this hill. Thought maybe it was my tires. Changed them out when I upgraded down to 18" wheels. Finally the ABS light, Traction control and check engine light came on. Yes I was not happy. Got her checked out and the codes pointed at the left wheel sensor. No problem I thought, sensors are cheap. The mechanic pointed out rear end grease seeping from the bearing housing. No big deal, I have changed seals on a Chevy. Not even the same. The sensor's tip is in a dry clean protected area. Whell the bearing goes causing the seal to go causing grease to enter the sensors safe place causing a mega buck repair, parts and labor. It was way cheaper to order the complete pre assembled kit. I totally haggled the price down. Well after all that the noise was gone. I did both sides. The Right side was showing seepage too. Search UA-cam for this video:
Toyota Tacoma: Rear Wheel Bearing Remove & Replace - Part I It's pretty much the same but with disc brakes.

@@jbbarron80 my '97 taco with MT has been having weird vibes for the past year, the support bearing is original at 334k miles. (the manual clutch is also original bearing and disks) so these vibes seem to happen at about 2k RPM and then go away with increased speed... I was thinking its the clutch disks chattering? but perhaps it is the support bearing that seems a bit loosey when pushing up on the driveshafts

Nice video. One comment, you installed the carrier bearing upside down. The single hole should face down. They are slightly offset and will wear out much faster if installed this way. Made the same mistake myself and had to do it again less than 2 years later.

I discovered the same problem with my '94 Toyota Pickup today. The Haynes manual says I will need a hydraulic press to separate it.

The slip yoke needs to be greased on the propeller shaft…it dries up and cause the carrier bearing taking the abuse until it shows play like that.

Peter, what grease do you recommend for the slip yolk that will last longer than 6-8 months?

I'm surprised that wasn't problematic to Petr. He knows his stuff once I found that (I missed it twice even though he said it was on both sides) I would have thought - "problem solved!" and started patting myself on the back. Oversized tires also vibrate and are loud af.
