I am watching a tutorial for the first time after getting choked... I panicked when I saw a turtle swimming towards me 🥲i'll try again next month. thank you ❤️
Updates - bought my first goggles and wetsuit, drifted with fish 🤣 and even got my OW + AOW the last few months~ thanks again for sharing these tips!! (but still can't get over how fast turtles swim lol)
This video is amazing for beginners! It helped so much and I love how you give perfect examples of basically every possible situation that you could be stuck in! Tommorow I’m going for the first time because school is starting and in 7th grade they make us snorkel so this definently is going to help !❤ thank you so much !❤❤
I like your videos! Tried snorkeling for the first time last week in the Dominican Republic and I felt like I couldn't breathe and the mask made me feel claustrophobic! I had to tap out while the rest of my friends and family had a great time. I haven't given up on it yet though! Looking forward to giving snorkeling another try next year!
We're glad you're not giving up! It can definitely take some time to get used to snorkeling. Try practicing with your gear at your nearest swimming pool before your next snorkeling trip. This will help you feel more comfortable and hopefully make your snorkeling experience more enjoyable. Thanks for watching!
this happened to me when i went scuba diving in Cancun for the first time! i’m not used to mouth breathing and i felt suffocated and panicked and tried to tap out. the tour guide wouldn’t let me leave so i ended up going down there and after getting the flow of breathing right it was really fun! you can do it 👏🏼
@@farahdgaf Love this! Glad to hear that you stuck it out and went diving anyway and were able to enjoy your experience. Some things are worth pushing past your comfort zone!

Im exited to start and learn how to snorkel because i iust Bought one today and im going to try tomorrow! Thank you for helping me to learn how to snorkel❤
@krakenaquatics I just went snorkeling yesterday and it was really fun! I found shells and I saw even small crabs! I'm going snorkeling today too ! Thanks again !❤️
I snorkeled Lake Huron today…just my second time doing it…it was a blast! One problem I had was there were pretty big roller waves and it would get water down the snorkel…any tips? I have a dry snorkel…how do you purge it without raising your head out of the water?
A dry snorkel should eliminate most water coming into your snorkel but won't necessarily keep all water out depending on the situation. With your head still in the water, you can purge your dry snorkel with a hard exhale. Water should either purge out the purge valve at the bottom of the snorkel or out the top of the snorkel. We talk a little about purging a snorkel in our most recent video which you can find at ua-cam.com/video/3hPxvG4OHZs/v-deo.html if you'd like. With some practice, purging will become no big deal. I hope you are able to get back out there and try it again! Thanks for watching!

Do you know how to swim against the current in the sea (for example when we want to reach to the boat - the boat position is changed due to current)? Because I have been snorkeling couple times but never be able to swim against the current.. so never be able to come back to the boat without helping from my guide.. thank you
Super helpful, love the energy, thanks so much! Whats the best way to breathe while you are snorkeling? Mouth? Nose? Both? Different for inhale/exhale? Do you have a recommended brand of dry snorkel to get?
We’re really glad to hear you found this video helpful! While snorkeling, you will only breathe through your mouth and through the snorkel. Both inhale and exhale through your mouth. We certainly would recommend to use one of our dry snorkels. 😀 The snorkel used in this video is our dry snorkel and can be found in our store here on UA-cam or on our website at krakenaquatics.com. We have more videos like this coming soon so be sure to subscribe. Thanks for watching!
What about having one of the float devices when in deep water? I am assuming its so others can see you? A safety device? Thanks for the video. I’ve been snorkeling and enjoy the sea life. Going to purchase a wetsuit bc the water is cold now too
Thank you. I just need to figure out if the second hand snorkel I bought just needs a single part or if it’s missing a couple of parts. The purge valve has nothing there… Is it just supposed to have a diaphragm there or is it more that just that? Like the top has a rubber seal for being a dry top snorkel that gets put into place with a small piece of styrofoam when you dive under water. Is something similar supposed to be on the purge valve as well?
When snorkeling, you will breathe in and out slowly and deeply with the top of the tube above water, holding your breath if the top goes underwater. When you surface, exhale forcefully to clear water from the tube and breathe gently to avoid inhaling any remaining water that may be still inside the snorkel. Once the snorkel is clear of water and the top is above the surface, you'll simply continue to breathe in and out through the snorkel. Hope this helps. Thanks for watching!
Hi Steve - thanks for this video! I am a beginner, and I use a set just like yours for swimming below the surface. However, after using it 10 - 15 times, the snorkel started rattling and rumbling, and it's getting worse. It only does that UNDER water - as soon as I emerge, I can breathe in and out freely. Yesterday, the system collapsed. The mask or the snorkel or both got jammed, and I could not breathe in anymore. The whole chaos got me dizzy, so my pool time ended abruptly. I need this set several times a week .... is there something I might be doing wrong? Would I blindly purchase a new one? Any advice you could give me would be much appreciated.
6:02 After doing that (go deeper), the air from lungs slowly turn into bubbles like on video 6:02 , then we will need air, so we go back to surface to breath.. The question is : what is the purpose using that snorkel when dive 6:02 ?
I bought a Aqualung Micro X mask and when brearh though my nose the mask fits and doesnt come off. But I tryed it under the shower and it seems that it leeks on my. I might have pulled my mask too tight. But the mask should fit me right ?
If you are able to breath in and hold the mask to your face without using straps, then it sounds like the mask does fit you and is sealing properly. If you are getting water into the mask under a shower, it sounds like perhaps there is some sort of obstruction going on. Could be the skirt got folded over without realizing it, hair caught between the skirt and skin or even, as you mentioned, mask straps could be too tight. Tighter isn't always better and this can cause the mask to not seal. We have a video about reasons for a leaking dive mask. Check it out if you'd like. ua-cam.com/video/W1IF-_Crrlo/v-deo.html. We also have a video on properly tightening your mask straps if you feel that might be the issue. ua-cam.com/video/jt9aIPoYo3w/v-deo.html. Hope this helps.
While it certainly is helpful to know how to swim, it isn't required to leisurely snorkel. You could use a snorkeling vest (probably best option), a life jacket or even a pool noodle to help you float while snorkeling if you are unable to swim. Hope this helps. Thanks for watching!
When you dive down, a dry snorkel will seal off the tube preventing water from getting inside the snorkel. During the dive, you would simply hold your breath until you resurface. What you can do while you are returning to the surface is to blow the air that is in the tube out which will push out any water that may have entered and allow you to get back to breathing normal on the surface. This should be done right before breaking the surface.
@@bitastee1No. You must hold your breath while submerged. Blow out through the snorkel as you come up to clear any water in the snorkel as you resurface. Hope that helps.
The snorkel being used in this video is our dry snorkel. It is designed with a floating ball system at the top of the snorkel tube that will keep water out of the snorkel when it gets submerged until the water. This is very helpful if you choose to dive down under the surface or if waves keep causing the snorkel to go under the water. If water still happens to get in, there is a purge valve at the bottom of the snorkel where the water can be easily purged out. I hope this answers your question. 👍
Very helpfull, I tried snorkelling today for the first time! I would practice breathing with the snorkel in the air and in the water. A problem that would occur tho was that the anti splash design at the top part of the snorkel would randomely close sometimes, even when it wasn’t submurged underwater… is there a reason why this is happening? ty great vid 😊
Glad you found the video helpful! Sounds like you’re off to a great start. It shouldn’t be closing on its own if it’s not being submerged. Which snorkel do you have?
This is very helpful, i practiced this the other day and water piles up in the nose area, dont know why that is? So that makes me panick and i stop in the middle of the pool and blow my nose . Any tips please?
