    Helpful for being a snorkeling guide in Mexico. Most tourism is in the English language. So I can improve my English vocabulary. Thanks🐋

    I've been spitting in my masks since I was a kid, and I never snorkeled before. I'm hoping to get into it soon, when we get financially stable again.
    We will be doing just casual snorkeling in the surf at the ocean. I'm very comfortable in the water, and can naturally float very well, even in a ball. That's where I feel most at home and content. I love fighting the waves and swimming, I need to be more active anyway.
    Couple questions....if you're still reading comments for this.
    1) I'm...overweight, to say the least. And I don't have a big lung capacity like I used to. Any extra tips that bigger people might need to keep in mind that average people might not need to think about?
    2) Is it best to find gear at a scuba and snorkeling store rather than on Amazon? Will they let us try on masks to see what fits better??
    3) what are your ideas about the full face 2-in-1 mask/snorkel combo?
    4) is there a way to get more used to ocean water?? Sounds like we'll have to deal with water on/around/in the face to some degree so any tips for ocean water tolerance?

      Thanks for your questions! I'll try our best to answer them based on my opinion.
      1. Weight shouldn't be a cause for concern when snorkeling. In fact, a larger body will naturally be more buoyant and will make floating on the surface easier. However, it may be more difficult to dive down below the surface it that is something you are wanting to do. Snorkeling does require some physical effort so as long as you feel up for that, you shouldn't have any issues. Just be sure to breath normal through your snorkel and enjoy!
      2. You certainly can buy gear on Amazon or on websites likes ours, particularly for snorkels. Masks are a little tougher because it's very important that they fit properly. Masks like ours feature soft silicone will fit (and seal) on most faces but if you want to ensure a perfect fit, you may want to wander into a local dive shop and try on a few.
      3. We are not fans of full face masks. There are safety concerns such as CO2 build up. There is quite a bit of information out there about the dangers of these masks. Because of the safety concerns, we can not recommend them nor will we ever offer them to our customers.
      4. The only real way to get used to the ocean water is to simply get in there and swim around. There isn't too much to worry about. Keep your mask on and properly positioned and you shouldn't get water in your eyes and if you keep your snorkel in your mouth, you won't get any water in there. But if you do, just spit it out. Like anything, snorkeling takes some practice but it's well worth it.
      I hope this answers your questions. Please let us know if you have any other questions. Thanks!

      @@krakenaquatics Thank you so much!! I noticed it takes more effort to dive down than it used to, but I'm hoping that it will help me get back into shape, too. Things happened and we are back in PA, but we have easy access to weekends at the lakes around here, and there's a river near our family's cabin. I think fresh water will be easier to tolerate than ocean water while we practice and get used to it lol. Even my special needs kiddo is wanting to try it out! Hopefully we'll be able to soon. Thanks for the info!!

      @@NadoriKaija My pleasure. Be safe and have fun snorkeling around in the lakes and rivers near you. Maybe use your gear to snorkel around and do some treasure hunting. 😀 You never know what you'll find sitting at the bottom of a river or near the shore of a lake just waiting to be found.

    The problem is learning how to mouth breathe

    • @krakenaquatics
      @krakenaquatics  2 місяці тому

      That certainly can be a challenge for some people which is understandable. Even just having your face in the water can be a challenge for some. Fortunately this is something that can be practiced at home with a snorkel before you ever head out to the water. Just be sure to pinch your nose or use a nose clip to force you to breathe through your mouth. It can definitely be uncomfortable at first but with some practice, should be able to master it pretty quickly. Good luck!
