  • Hubert Gregg presented "Thanks For The Memory" from 1970 until his death in 2004 at the age of 89. This BBC Radio 2 weekly half-hour programme was a nostalgic look back to music from the 1920s onwards, with personal reminisces of the artists by Gregg, who had been an actor and songwriter. His style was old world. A week was a "sennight", a CD was a "shaving mirror" and Radio 2 was "Wireless Two".
This example was broadcast on 22nd August 2003, unfortunately missing the first few minutes, and features the following recordings:
    1. Powder Your Face With Sunshine - Evelyn Knight
    2. The Nearness Of You - Elisabeth Welch
    3. L'Anglais avec son sang-froid - Paddy Roberts
    4. I Double Dare You - Carroll Gibbons & his Boyfriends
    5. Comedy sketch - Groucho Marx & Tallulah Bankhead
    6. There's A Little Bit of Piccadilly - Hebert Gregg with Gordon Langford at the piano
    7. It's Murder - Lil Armstrong & her Orchestra
    8. Time Was - Don Ameche & Connee Boswell
Friday Night Is Music Night, Live from the Mermaid Theatre, Blackfriars, London, presented by Richard Baker. Edward Warren conducts the BBC Concert Orchestra.

I discovered Hubert Gregg's show only very shortly before his Death.
The program was such a refreshing alternative to everything else on the radio on my commute home.
I've since become a fan of vintage radio - Those quaint old songs are such great background music for driving, gardening or housework. Things were so jolly in the old days despite the difficult times!
