Youre a life saver when it comes to first gen rav4s ive been slowly restoring my 97 rav and have used youre videos for reference this entire time thank you dude 👍
Most people get the Toyota cross bars from the junkyard and hope that there are keys. I’m working on making a roof rack for the RAV4 that will be similar to the Prinsu racks. It will be available for sale in a couple months.
My wife and I have watched the whole series on your rav. Thank you for your attention to detail, can-do attitude, clear explanations and great filming. And great humor. We have a '96 4 door manual that we've used hard, but it keeps going. I mean we've used it like a truck... Now in the process of getting it back in shape for years to come. I also have an idea for a 70 series land cruiser inspired pop top, allowing the user to stand and sleep in the rav. We'll see how that pans out. Anyways, thanks again for everything. You've expedited this refurbishing process immensely. Time to go get some junk yard CV's and window weld my diff mount!
thanks for the tips. I have a 1991 camry LE with 3s-fe. Planning to rebuild the engine at 140K...good to know where to look for parts. Too bad I moved from Mesa, az ...lots of rust free junked cars, unlike NE.
Hello my Friend My 1999 Rav4 AWD I change the 2 rear tires But I heard that in modern cars if you change One tire You must change all 4 But do you think.... Old AWD they behave as the new one?
The RAV4 has a center differential that allows front and rear wheels to turn at different speeds. The manual transmission has a manual locking center differential and having slightly different size tires will not cause a problem when the center differential lock is unlocked. The automatic transmission RAV4 has an automatic center locking differential that might try to automatically lock if the tires are different sizes. Manual transmission = ok Automatic = you should get all 4 new tires.
Hey Paul…seems like I might have bad synchros in my 97 rav4 manual transmission…considering options. Do you know where I might find a rebuild kit for such an old transmission? Or a list of compatible transmissions? Do I just look for the same 2.0 L motor/transmission? Thank you!
Hi Paul.. I have the same 1997 rav4 as yours. My trunk rattles like it’s not closed all the way. I got new latch and new seal but nothing helped. What do you recommend?
Fuel pumps, alternators and starters are the worst offenders for cheap parts in my experience. I’ll never skimp on any of them again and I’ll save money while doing it.
Do you think you can repair the rack better than the remanufacturing place? I haven't tried it myself, so I don't know if it's easy or really hard. Usually reman stuff is pretty good.
Unfortunately the nice Toyota app doesn’t have all the fun information available if you are outside of the USA. Well…it doesn’t work in Canada, at least :(
You can try: www.toyota.com/owners/vehicle-specification/ You'll need to log in. I just tried it with the same email/password from my app and it works. I'm guessing you'll get the same results as the app, but it's worth a shot.
The gas struts for the power liftgate on my Highlander failed so I called the local toyota dealership to get the price on parts. I asked for the part number to make sure they were giving me the right parts - there are two other smaller struts for the window within the tailgate. The dealership said they will not give out the part number, it will be printed on the receipt. WOW!
That sounds shady. Go to yoshiparts.com and you can look up the part numbers. You can also just get lift struts from your local auto parts store. The Toyota struts are probably better, but aftermarket ones work just fine.
@@LabCoatPaul Yep, followed your advice and looked up the parts online and ordered the OEM struts for the power liftgate. Aftermarket struts can be too strong and the automatic door close function may stop working. I ordered aftermarket struts for the smaller tailgate window that's manually operated. I really appreciate your channel and comments.
"hey yall, I'm paul" Click thumbs up "here's some of the best used car info you'll find on this website." If you had a patreon you'd have this Rav4.1 restored completely by now.
I found that a 95-96 drivers door window controls are different. They look the same. But wire connectors are completely different. I use Autozone alot. Lifetime warr most stuff. I drive cars well into the 300,000s. I have haven't paid for a set of brake paid in years. But the next day delivery is usually not.
Anything is possible. I've seen a few people online who installed an aftermarket fiberglass top to replace the cloth one. I think it was for a different vehicle.
Hey Paul, I just blew my fwd AT 1996 rav4 motor . Weak Distributor seal leaked all my oil. Can I buy a newer 1998-2000s fwd rav4 (coil packs ) and engine swap ?
Yes. It’s a relatively easy swap since it’s the same engine. Make sure you get the complete wiring harness and computer with the newer engine, because they’re different.
Paul, you’re the man! Thanks so much for always sharing great advice. You forgot to tell everyone that you are a celebrity in those Facebook groups 😂 you really are 🤘🏼👍🏼
Love the videos. Finally after a few years of watching you videos on the RAV4. I’m curious why UA-cam has no videos on changing driver side window regulator? Wondering if you would do one for us? On a first gen?
Ah, that’s correct. I apologize. I do have power windows and wanted to change out my front driver side door window regulator and I can’t seem to find any videos on UA-cam how to do it on a first generation
I haven’t had to replace the steering rack on my car, so I don’t know exactly what’s available. If you can find a rack at the junkyard that doesn’t leak, it probably has a few years of life left in it. You could also get a remanufactured one at the auto parts store, as long as it was made from the original rack and not some junk from China.
Forget about Old Man Emu, that's all now discontinued. I was in ARB who own OME on Tuesday this week, only 1 rear shock left and no springs. No plans to start making them again either.
Thanks Paul! All your videos are well organized and the information is useful and the way you portray it with 95% info 5% humor really works to be able to pay attention the entire time. Great work sir!
Hello. Please can you give me some advice. I have a wangye 2 eivissa 125cc year of manufacture 2022. The bike has a fault and I have noticed I have 2 missing lines some how they have got disconnected. I have a HEFA air drain filter it has 2 pipes connected to the bottom of the unit. It has 2 feeds missing from the top of the unit If you got 5 minutes and google the part HEFA air drain filter you will see the actual unit. Also can you give me some advice what this filter does and will it cause a 4 stroke scooter to smoke abit as the bike has only 2015 miles. Cheers
I have a 1998 Toyota Rav4J SXA11 imported from Japan with the 3S-GE old legend... but a lot of parts from the chassi are diferent from the "regular" RAV4... For example the anti roll bar links in my unit are much more stronger and bulky and thus when they shipped the parts they were no fit for my RAV4 :( It's amazing to have this special JDM RAV4 but maintenance is a pain in the a$$

Can you do a video on changing the transmission fuel
For a 5door 1998 rav4. Where should I get my rack & pinion from?

So far I’ve only done repairs my car needs. I have manual windows and they work perfectly. Does your RAV4 have power windows?
I was wondering if you could do a small video on how to change the bulb for the running light thats inside the fender
thanks for the tips. I have a 1991 camry LE with 3s-fe. Planning to rebuild the engine at 140K...good to know where to look for parts. Too bad I moved from Mesa, az ...lots of rust free junked cars, unlike NE.
Partsouq is good for cheaper genuine Toyota parts.

Thank you. I learned new things from all your Rav 4 vids, especially this one 💯
Fuel pumps, alternators and starters are the worst offenders for cheap parts in my experience. I’ll never skimp on any of them again and I’ll save money while doing it.
Hey Paul so my rack and pinion started leaking pretty bad now so you recommend getting seal kit or take my chances and get a reman rack
Do you think you can repair the rack better than the remanufacturing place? I haven't tried it myself, so I don't know if it's easy or really hard. Usually reman stuff is pretty good.
@@LabCoatPaul you're right I'm getting a reman Im definitely not skilled enough to try to repair it my self haha
Dude you forgot your jokes on fat tinder dates
Ahh.. thanks for the reminder. I'll be sure to ROLL around to that in the next one. Or should I use the word "waddle" instead?
Just watched the whole series. I dont have a rav4 but enjoyed your content anyway😊
Hi Paul , I am searching for a roof rack , any hints where to find ? Or if the ones for other generations also fit ?
Thanks

Just tried the 505 cro and crf by ats chemicals and I can say it made a huge difference considering it's got 202k miles
I need the door latch actuator for a 96 Rav4 where do u recommend I buy it at?
I recommend getting the entire latch (with actuator built in) from a junkyard. These parts generally last forever so the used one is probably good.
Bardzo przydatne informacje , dzięki
Thank you for bringing up the simple yet vital rad cap . Always original
That purple rav 4 pick and pull I have the roof rack key for Thanks for reminding me I need to go get that
You should be do a video of how to replace all the engine mounts. Thank you !!
would it be possible to do a video like this on a first gen tacoma like the one you worked on previously?

great info
these are great
Great video!
Another trick with sourcing parts is to find what brand made what when the car was new; my 1999 RAV4L’s OEM alternator was a Denso for example.
Good idea! Thanks
