Kids should be given a choice. Teach them the basics add subtract, multiply and divide. If they want to learn more then teach those kids more. Don’t subject kids to algebra and geometry which more than likely they will not use. I make $340k a year and I never used algebra or geometry in my life.
I agree with this statement. I learned everything all the way up to Pre-calculus. I have never used anything above basic arithmetic on any job that I've ever done and I'm an Electronics technician. Advanced mathematics is for scientists, physicists and Advanced theoretical designers. Advanced mathematics is not for the average everyday person that's why I don't understand why college make students take college algebra; they would never use it.
We've ignored half the student population for 40 years ... the portion that is naturally prone to being good in math. This is not politically correct, but it is actually correct ... so save your drama.
For those who get to attend school. Not everyone in China has that option. Also, China is homoeneous, so it would be a rarity, if not impossible, for schools there to experience the cultural and intellectual divide, of schools here in the USA. This does, however, prove the point that diversity is not a strength.
Do these other countries educate everyone? Even those who have no desire? In China they have to be the best of the best just to go to school. It's like comparing apples and oranges.
@@susansmith493 ok. But it's true. Have you ever tried to teach algebra 2 to a 16 year old who doesn't care? That makes a huge difference. It's difficult for those who try.
I came to the US at the age of 12 long time ago from Vietnam. I didn’t have to study math much at all until calculus in college. Math in US in high school is like 5th grade math in Vietnam. Lol.
Chinese kids learn quantum mechanics
This has been true going back to the early 80's. Science and Math are substantially 😢down
Yeah, just throw more money at it. That is the answer to everything for them, as it's about filling their pockets, and not about the kids.

Engineers and doctors need to know algebra and geometry.
@@johngalt3940 No they don’t.

Test scores are social constructs.

Chinese schools are way more advanced.

That's great but most jobs don't require that level of mathematics prowess.
Maybe it's because we are more concerned with gender and pronouns than actually teaching.🙄
