The storyline meaning of dollhouse is crybaby describing her family and the irl meaning could be described how people see celebrities. In an interview, Melanie said “people put them in glass boxes and think they are perfect and when something happens that shows them are humans, people don’t like that.” The irl meaning could also be people act like they are a “perfect family” for the public but actually they aren’t. @@ReactionTherapyOfficial as I was watching the video I just remembered that one time my mom asked my dad “if you didn’t want to marry me, why did you marry me?” I’m below 13 and all this is happening I know this happens to younger children and have way more worse things too so I’m not taking the spotlight 😕
Melenie mentioned that most songs in the crybaby album were based on her life except for dollhouse and tag youre it she wrote dollhouse because she's seen families like that

she began to raise serious topics in her work a very long time ago, I would even say that her early work is sometimes much harsher than later. For example, she performed such songs as "birthing addict" about drug addiction (and not only, the meaning of this song is not only this) and "million men" about sex traffic (of a certain age category) and its consequences. she also has the song "dear porcupine", in which she refers to those people who bullied her at school
I did NOT expect this reaction from a psychotherapist. Kudos to you for being open minded. This song reminds me SO much of my childhood it's crazy. Keep up appearances and don't let anyone see how ugly things really are. Fake and money are king!
This is exactly what you should expect from a therapist, therapy is all about trying to heal from things like this. You can't heal from mental issues without understanding.
the song is basically.. well in my experience is like a perfect family on the outside but one knows what happens in the inside and when the girl went inside is like the stuff that happens inside the house gets exposed to a person the person who found out what happens inside doesn’t like or want to listen or be in the situation.. that’s just how i interpret the song and relate to it when Melanie said “everyone thinks that we’re perfect, please don’t let them look through the curtains” 3:31 in my interpretation don’t open up/share your feelings bc someone might decide to leave you

This was the first Melanie Martinez song I heard, at only 11. At the time me and my family didn’t have a good relationship or home so I really connected to the song and still love it to this day :)

I've used it as inspiration for deeper character development.
After listening to this song, a little bit more focusing on it, I do play out my trauma with my Barbies. I have school trauma, and I’ll have my Barbies yell at my other Barbies at a school location in my playroom. I really do understand this song a little bit more now I’ve Never actually thought about that

You need to watch sippy cup it's a direct continuation to dollhouse as it picks right back up with the same characters and also had some amazing lyrics that I would love for you to pick apart as you discover the true meaning of the song itself and the overall story of crybaby as a character.

I connect so much with this song. In high school this was my life we had to keep this "perfect image" as a family despite of the family problems
Narcissistic abuse, going on in the household and trying to look perfect for the world. Once she grows up, she stops looking at her dolls and actually starts to see what’s going on in the household. That’s when she gets scared and doesn’t wanna be there anymore. That’s the Takeaway that I got from this.

Hello this is my theory what might be happening in the kitchen theory 1 it's what you said it is theory 2 it might be the parents fighting and yelling and the fight might be bigger like the brother butting in (from like my past experience)

I personally think that its describing how a lot of abuse is covered up with a smile and practiced poses. If you look at the lyrics out of context, you can really start to see the whole picture, and its not a pleasant one...
