This song makes me cry every time I listen to it. The line about seeing things nobody else sees hits home. My best friend was abused by her when father and I think about her every time I hear the song
Dollhouse is about a family that appears to be perfect on the outside looking in, yet it's far from it. In Dollhouse, Cry Baby's mother is an alcoholic due to her husband's infidelity, and her brother has been engulfed in the life of drugs, visualized when they portrayed him smoking cannabis. The daughter, who is named Cry Baby, is the only one that sees the tragedy surrounding her. Her family is visualized as the dolls living inside of a dollhouse that belongs to a little girl. Since the daughter knows the truth about her dysfunctional family, she narrates the song in an attempt to get the girl to see and understand her reality.
This song has another meaning: how people view celebrities. In an interview, Melanie said, 'People put them in glass boxes and think they are perfect and when something happens that shows when they are humans, people don't like that.'

it's creative that she makes the dolls act all perfect to the human, when kids usually use dolls to express what they can't express to other people around them. A twist
This song is about the face you put on for the world versus your true colors. The little girl represents the outside world. When the little girl comes up to play with them, they have to assume their plastic form, and pretend to be the perfect dolls the girl expects them to be. In reality, when the little girl (society) is looking away, everyone in this perfect family reveals their flaws.

what I took away from that is that, the girl is trying to escape the family problems by playing with the dolls, but then the truth keeps showing up in her dolls, she is once again reminded of the darkness in her family and doesn't want it to be true
you basically got it spot on, but from what I got… she thinks dollhouse families are perfect where nothing is wrong, but like in the lyric “please dont let them look through the curtains” is basically saying dont let her see the reality of what really happens…. mom is drunk and uses drinking as a remedy to forget about dad’s infidelity , dad is with another woman, brother is smoking cannabis.. “pose with your brother wont you be a good sister” trying to look like a perfect family but behind closed doors its not that
