I love how Lana always sings about heavy stuff, in such a beautiful way because it’s not about the bad perspective but from the one who is living it and how it feels at the moment. Sad, tragic and beautiful
I think a lot of the themes in this music video can linked back to one of Lana’s quotes, especially when she says “I was so confused as a little child… scared that I couldn’t find all the answers…”Here’s the quote from one of her interviews on the album: “When I was very young I was sort of floored by the fact that my mother and my father and everyone I knew was going to die one day, and myself too. I had a sort of a philosophical crisis. I couldn't believe that we were mortal. For some reason that knowledge sort of overshadowed my experience. I was unhappy for some time. I got into a lot of trouble. I used to drink a lot. That was a hard time in my life.”
For me, what was born to die is their relationship and the fact that he survived the accident represents that he was not as involved in the relationship as She who gives her life (metaphorically or not) for it and he can continue after this. Hi from Argentina, love your videos ❤
The way BTD was so disrespected by critics at the time is criminal... I was looking at Pitchfork's ratings for all her albums the other day and they gave BTD a 5.5 out of 10 😤 insanity
I interpret a lot of her music as a portrayal/examination of women in intense, self-destructive relationships, and the mix of feelings and emotions that they are experiencing, but the songs or videos are by no means endorsing these relationships. It's kind of like if there was a movie about a woman in a relationship that had domestic violence, it would be telling her story, but not encouraging the violence itself. And in Lana's songs, just like in real life, there isn't always a fairytale ending to these relationships. She is a great storyteller, and I enjoy your reactions.
I think you'd absolutely fall in love with Buddy's Rendezvous!!! It's originally by Father John Misty but Lana covered and did so well. The lyrics are amazing and I'd be so interested in seeing your interpretation of it
They make a pact to commit suicide together. And they crash the car. But only she dies and he survives. This is the first part of a trilogy that continues with "Blue Jeans" where she shows the first part of their relationship and then with "Shades of Cool" where she's already dead and she haunts him when he's old through memories and visions. You should watch those videos in that order. And yes, she's all about romanticizing toxic relationships and offering herself as a willing victim to a destructive man. Her idea of romantic is to die together and find each other in the afterlife. She studied metaphysics at one point of her life and so she's obsessed with the idea of another realm of existence, and the afterlife, and in her mind nothing could be more romantic than that. You will find more clues in her song "Dark Paradise" (about love after death) and in her video for "Summertime Sadness" (about committing suicide and continue living in some kind of limbo). But most of all you will find clues about toxic relationships and offering herself as a willing victim in her song "Million Dollar Man" where she's like a dog at her master's feet (with lines like "if you're going crazy just grab me and take me, I'd follow you down down down, anywhere...") or in her song "Black Beauty" where she's willing to live a back and white life because her man hates colors. And finally, she's also obsessed with cult leaders and collective suicide. In her video "Freak" she portrays a cult, with a cult leader at the style of Charles Manson, surrounded by his girls followers, she being one of them.
I think this song is brilliant cause she managed to merge together the trajectory of life with the trajectory of a relationship and kinda intertwined them. This song is very existential imo and makes sense since Lana graduated in metaphysical philosophy. I think she's making a strong statement here cause it's the opening song of her first album (as LDR at least). I think it's beautiful how she's able to express her fear of death and her existential questions that she's had since she was a little girl and relating them back to the fears and questions you can ask yourself when you're in a toxic relationship. It's also acknowledging that you know you're gonna die anyway when you're first born in the same way that you sometimes know a relationship isn't gonna last as soon as you get into it but it doesn't mean that the journey in between isn't worth it and beautiful anyway. PS : The video was I think shot at the Fontainebleau Castle in France, near Paris and it was build in the 16th century I believe
Yep, I mentioned that song in my comment, as well as “Carmen.” Born To Die, to me personally, is her best album! I absolutely love her other albums and it’s tough to even make a choice, but if I had to, it would be this album.
i think she meant „born to die” not in a literal way, but in a metaphorical way, in which she is acknowledging that she knew from the start that their relationship was „born to die”. yes, she does use some more religious metaphors, but i truly have never saw the lyrics of this song as an existential song about all of us eventually dying, but us in toxic, unhealthy relationships, still staying, even though we know it is "killing us" and it was "born to die", but you just stay for the thrill or/and you are just mentally unwell/so dependent on that person that you are willing to take whatever time you can get with them. this can be (in my head, at least) allso applied to all kind of relationships (family, friends, friend groups, etc.) also in the end of the music video (him holding her, while she is dead) - the final death of a person possibly being abused and used enough in that toxic relationship that they are far too gone now/dead alsooo, one last thing, i see „you like your girls insane” as saying „you like having someone who is easy to manipulate and control”
In the song Fingertips she talks about how Aaron end up dead and not her, and watchin Born To Die now it makes me think if it's not a reference to that, to his death!
I would love if you reacted to the summertime sadness music video, it’s so sad and tragic but at the same time so beautiful❤️ I love your videos so much
This is some of my favorite content. I really appreciate your interpretations. Such a painful expression of the tragic and often existential corners of life.
What a hypnotic, captivating voice Lana has combined with themes that are all encompassing of love, death, and everything in between. Additionally, there is very strong imagery of Americana circa 1950s and 60s, as well as the present day. Rather similar to some of her other efforts on that front such as 'Video Games', which I am not sure if you have previously covered being new to your channel. From a personal standpoint, the title of this track hits harder than ever before with the deaths of both of my parents over the last several years. Dad in 12/19 and Mom in 9/22. Mortality is something I am more cognizant of than ever before. And it is something we really have no control over insofar as when and how it will happen. But it will happen to all of us. Death is undefeated. All you can really do is live your life day to day. And just try to be the best person you can be. I don't have the exact quote, but I can remember George Harrison once saying something along the lines of 'all we really have is the here and now. We can learn from the past, but we can't relive it. And we can only plan for the future so much because we don't know how much of one we will have'. Ominous words, but true nonetheless.
Another two songs I think it might be really interesting to react to are 'Freak' and '24' !! both my favs off the honeymoon album, and idk why but some lyrics in freak paired with the MV give off majorrrr cult vibes and I'm here for the dark meaning + beautiful instrumentals.
Mere, from someone who needs therapy and is working on that subject, thank you. I’ve loved Lana since 9th grade which started with this exact video of herself. This means a lot to me. All your videos help heal the young child within myself and gain a better perspective on life
In my most humble opinion the bangs make you look even more beautiful. You are an extremely attractive woman. I love your reactions, especially Lana's. She is my Favorite female artist and your insights are quite enjoyable and sometimes quite enlightening. Keep the New look, everyone needs a little change and sometimes change that makes one question the decision. Again one man's unsolicited option. 😊
I’ve enjoyed listening to this song on my Lana deep dive but this really makes me pay attention. Out loud by myself I said “No…”, when he had her lifeless in his arms. I almost feel this video is to say, there is a chance for so much in this life and don’t waste it by doing the “cool” thing or being who others want you to be; if you do, before you know it, you could’ve wasted your life. Lana looks beautiful and royal. I, too, see a parallel to the heavens and spirits within us. I did not know this video existed! I’ll watch her videos as you put them out because I want to see them all! Your bangs are lovely. Your heart is lovely. Have a wonderful day, Mere!
Heey Mere!! Please do more Ethel Cain debut album songs reactions!! There are very deep lyrics there, and I can’t wait to hear your opinions and thoughts about it. I beg you! Love ♥
You should definitely do the last time by Taylor :) I love your content so so much and I’ve subscribed btww! I have your post notifications onn! Also I’m loving the bangs! You should keep them! You’re rocking themmm so so much ! Proud of youu!
“The Last Time” by Taylor and Gary Lightbody (who is actually the lead singer of Snow Patrol, which you probably already knew 😊, but I love little tidbits like that, and it’s cool to pass them on, just in case…) is such a great song! So underrated!
I always wait for u to upload a video. You’re so pretty&smart please keep it up. Can u please react to Violet bent backwards over the grass? (The album)
I love your haircut. It´s always good to know your thoughts about music and lyrics. I really appreciate your opinion and your wisdom in a lot of areas. Also, psychology is something that I have always been interested in.
The way that I interpret it is that she would put herself in these wreckless situations where she can very well die and she does it so that she can experience this love that she seeks, but somewhere in the back of her mind she is perfectly aware that this is not the love she is seeking, and she just lets the back of her mind sit there in its throne watching her be wreckless just to see if some unexpected outcome reveals itself, before their relationship dies
The whole scene might be set up with angel Lana narrating a story about how she lost her life by being in a toxic, abusive, and careless relationship. The relationship that was purely based on hook ups and adultery, which left her alone even when she was with someone tells about the moments of realisation she had in between, but in search of love (which she never got as a child, so as she says "I was confused as a little child, tryanna take what I would get, scared that I wouldn't find--as in love which she never received and desperately wanted) The last signifies her entry in the heaven in the white gown and as she opened the door to the heaven, she reach to her higher powers.
Well well so much to say about this song and it’s meaning, it could be about a dying relationship, it could be about literally dying or both of them one leading to the other ( sorry i’m french my english is so bad). Loved your interpretation and most of all, you looked fabulous, you’re always pretty but the hair, the eyes, you killed it ! Wish u the best
You should definitely listen to more mitski her song writing is insane. Try my love mine all mine it’s from her new album and it’s been very popular recently and i think you’d enjoy it

Such a tragic story, she accepted the type of love she received and did all she had to do to keep him around her, but she knew from the beginning he would cause her death, you can see by the end of the video when she starts to look angry that she knew what was coming...
I love Lana Del Rey! Thanks for this reaction and analysis! Btw, if you do more Hozier reactions, I would be interested to hear your thoughts on Sedated 👀
This is just what I needed ❤ Please check out "Looking for America" by Lana, I know it's not the most popular wish but I'm sure there's sooooo much for you to say about it

Omg. THIS!!
Wow, your comment finally helped me understand that part of the video after so many years 🎉🎉
The sounds, the church, her make up, them kissing, this video is so iconic and means so much to me ❤ thanks for doing it
it’s a french castle not a church !
This album should have won 10 grammy awards😢
