    Hey Chris sick videos man. I was out there yesterday (friday). I hadn't been to la jolla in years. This year I got a hobie and decided to go out. I got pumped to go, I was watching your videos all week long where youre slaying the yellows. I had a similar day like you. Weather was just perfect. No yellows, but I did get a few big bonito. I'll keep going out there regularly, hope to run into you one day.

    Your assumption is right. I always see all the hot bites during summer and then winter it seems like I don't see it hear much about yellowtail. So I assumed that was the only time they're here and after that they go somewhere else like further south or something 😂, migrating like the birds 🤣. I do plan to head out there next year, I just got to get more experience and build up my body for paddling endurance etc. I'm somewhat scared thinking about it but also excited. More worried about launching from shore then being so close to the water and the jaws fear factor(damn movie,!!!) 😂.
    I did stumble upon San dog and your friend Mikey fish and sips. All three of you guys are a big help to us new kayakers that want to hit the ocean and don't know what to expect. Thanks again and stay blessed

    • @chrisblevinsfishing
      @chrisblevinsfishing  2 роки тому +1

      Awesome that's great you should get out there, there's YT biting now supposedly. Don't be afraid of sharks, driving the freeway on the way to La Jolla is 1000x more deadly than anything you will encounter on the water. Drive safe, wear a PDF, and charge it!

    I learned alot from this video, know that Chris! I like how you straighten out the fact that season for yellowtail is all year long when it is assumed by novices to La Jolla (like me) that they only show in the summer. Also, I like how you provide inputs of the lobster season, the traps everywhere, how the traps are strategically placed around structure and how it may be beneficial to fish around them and to be mindful of not having your fish get snagged on a lobster pot. Yes, please make a video on how to make the homemade sunscreen, I’ve been surfing for over 20 years (started at Scripps Pier) and it’s about time I stop using the commercial stuff and use something that’s not going to be harmful to God’s creations. I love how you mention about people asking on how to fish with no fish finder because I’m one of them! Every time I hunt for yellowtail I catch bonito and it’s good to know to check my leader. Once I get a fish finder, I will definitely go about your guidance, right now I’m just enjoying going blind (funny but not funny). Tight lines and heavy line, straight to the point and how to get the yellowtail on the kayak! I love the positive attitude and how you mention how this world is ugly right now but again you're still positive, enjoying the weather, glassy calm conditions and being safe. Lastly, taking a dip in the water and your method of mounting back up on the kayak, that was cool and good job!

    Sick man, so when the water temp drops do you ever try soaking a Dropper loop greenback around that structure that you mentioned for lobster? Seems like that transition would draw things into it so soaking would offer the chance at different things.

    • @chrisblevinsfishing

    Hi Chris,thank you for the good video and the tips. How much attention do you pay to tide when fishing for yellowtail? If high tide was at 11am and the tidal difference was big (spring tide), would you expect the yellowtail bite was better at 7am in the morning or from 10-12 (1H before and after high tide). my yellowtail fishing was very very slow on oct 2 and oct 3 and i am far far away from cali. seems like they went on an international hunger strike

    • @chrisblevinsfishing
      @chrisblevinsfishing  4 роки тому

      Honestly not much. Really when I can fish i fish hard and for as long as I can. I don’t have the luxury of picking my trips based on tides or moon phases. When I can go, I go. Probably would be smart to keep a log of when I actually catch though... there are so many other factors that play I to the bite, and when I’m fishing in 100+ feet of water the tide doesn’t seem to make much difference. I will say the bigger swells do seem to drive the current and bite pretty consistently.

      Lol no I wouldn't recommend it, those lobster fishermen are mean bastards and if they rolled up on you poaching their traps you might have some heat coming your way. Not to mention those traps are like 80 pounds. Haha cheers.

    I would definitely love to make some homemade sunscreen. What PF rating is it? I've had 2 melo's removed already and have been advised to wear nothing less than 50.

      The homemade stuff may not be strong enough for you, but I’ll do some research and see if we can do a double strength batch. It in the works should be coming out in the next week or 2. Cheers!
