My First KAYAK DORADO | San Diego Kayak Fishing for Mahi Mahi off La Jolla California
Вставка
- Опубліковано 8 вер 2022
- This year I caught my first dorado from kayak. This is pretty rare for San Diego waters. Using my Hobie Pro Angler 14, I pedaled about 8 miles off la jolla to find this small dorado. She sure was tasty!

Congrats Chris on the first Kayak Dorado. I'm sure it was super tasty. Great job on the Safety Tips. Tight Lines!
Thanks for watching Mark. Seen you at the launch a bunch lately. Cheers!
Caught them down in the Mediterranean, off the island of Gozo. One thing you notice is their absolutely amazingly beautiful colours. So vivid and luminescent in the bright sun. If you kill one for the table, they loose all that colour when they die, as the life leaves them they loose all that beautiful colour and become a greyish green. One of the best sport first to catch, because they jump high out of the water and fight like hell, but I lost quite a few as their mouth is quite soft and they can get off if you hook light. Good to eat, but I always have a pang in my heart when I decide to take one. Came across a sculpture in Italy dating from 400BC, it depicted a man holding a bunch of Lampuki (Dorado) just shows how long this amazing fish have been caught by humans. Nice video, I am an old town predator man myself :-)
That’s a rad I didn’t know that thanks for sharing the info. Cheers
Glad you are Back Sir ..
like others have said here, good to see you back! never seen a bad video from you they all rock.
Kayak Mahi! what an accomplishment. - One of the guys on kayak at a paddy last weekend.
Oh man such a heartbreaker to see all those jumping dorado on that paddy and not get one. Especially when Owyn rolls up and ropes 2 right in front of us haha You going to try again?
@@chrisblevinsfishing I think that might have been my only shot, there is some fishing event every weekend for the next 3 weeks.

Chris, Great job catching your first dorado from your kayak. 8 miles off-shore is too much distance for me. You must be a great shape to travel that far.
OMG so incredible. Beast Mode! Thanks for sharing the adventures
Awesome Chris !!! OSS!! Congrats on your dodo from the kayak
So stoked you're back on the channel~ You're one of the best yakers in town- and I've been jonesing for vids from you all season~ Hope all's ok :) Thanks for sharing!

Epic Cris congrats on your catch ! Full on determination targeting after those mahi's yessah!!🤙🍻
Takes some determination for sure. Easy to just stay in the cove and stick to what you know. Nothing risked is nothing gained!
Great video Chris...dang man, appreciate the grind out, but that's why fish...keep up the great work sir, and enjoy the dodo!

Sick catch Chris!
hell yeah brother. awsome stuff.
Cheers thanks for watching!
@@chrisblevinsfishing thank you for making videos and being helpful to us SD locals
Congrats Chris! I lined up next to you on the beach in the gray light on the 28th but let you do what you needed as you said you were going big on IG the night before. After seeing your trek I’m glad I chose staying inside 🤣! I ended with a handful of calicos and a broken rod due to a thrashing barracuda 🤦♂️
It was a trek but who knows you might have hooked a good one!
Good stuff Chris! I only kayak fish freshwater for Crappie, Cats and Trout so I have to live my ocean adventures through your videos. 😂 Keep them coming and stay safe out there,
Way to go Chris!
Way to go on your first kayak dorado...hardly any so. Cal Yakkers can say that!!
Insane dude! You are an animal!
Dude that was a journey! I have a bixpy on my kayak and wouldn't even try that. Savage🤘
Good Shit!! I was literally thinking of hitting La Jolla up a couple weeks ago for Dodos but decided not to since I'd be by myself on my Yak!
Going to La Jolla proper you can be ok solo. There’s plenty of other kayaks around. Going way offshore is a different story. Thanks for watching.
Nice video! Ive ben out there once and only caught a couple calico. I want to get into those Dorados or yellows!
Keep at it. It’s a steep learning curve but the only way to get there is time on the water, combined with watching my videos:)
Hey Chris - Big Atta-Boy to You! This is huge. I saw the title of this vid and just had to watch it. Quite an accomplishment. I haven’t heard of anyone else catching a Dorado in a kayak off San Diego, but I’m not as close to all the reports, forums etc…
Do you have an upgraded type of mirage drive or is it a stock version or ? I have a 2014 with a stock drive. I would doubt I’d ever try going out that far with mine, but just curious. I may upgrade just to make my longer days in the seat a bit easier if there’s an upgrade available. I’ve got a few more years on you and I’m not getting any faster.
Thanks for posting this vid on your channel so quick. I’ve learned a lot of stuff from you, especially on the fish finder and now the Tx limits on the handhelds. Super good to know. Amazing accomplishment Chris!!!
Hi Kenny. It’s a stock 180 drive from a 2019. I did have spare cables and tools… forgot to mention that in the video. I would highly recommend an entire backup drive, but ain’t nobody have cash for that who isn’t “team hobie” haha
8 miles out, solo, no life jacket on, standing up. Cool 😑 glad you made it back safely.
Commented to fast. Just saw the other yak.
Kayak Karens of UA-cam.
Wow a whole 20 minute video for 1 fish
Nice.
Cheers.
If going out that far stay in group, and the after noon current can get very strong, even for a power boat, a compass and a map is a must, need a stronger radio, ship to shore with a long antenna . and most importantly a safety beacon, so poop goes wrong. hit that safety beacon.
Bad ass your the man
Thanks for watching!
That's so cool seeing Yellowtail from shore! How do you treat your mackerel? Do you have constantly fresh saltwater circulating or just aerator pump?
Hi an aerator is not sufficient to keep the mackerel alive… you need a circulation pump. This tank has a tsunami 500 gph bilge pump, wired to a 6v battery so it pumps at half speed. Thanks for watching
Where is this by the pier?
You know you can buy a small aluminum center console like a bay runner brand new for a couple hundred a month withq a 3500.00 down payment on a 10 year loan sell it in a couple years and almost break even if you keep it in good condition I've done this for year's just a thought
