- Inspired by a viewer comment, I thought I'd check out using a Wire Guardian to protect my thread at the clasp connection. And it turns out I loved it! Here's how to use the Wire Guardian yourself!
You can find Wire Guardians for sale here:

I use them on everything I make . When I teach the technique I say.... go up one leg, over the waist and down the other leg. A tip I learned was to place your thumb and index finger over the "waist" while tightening the thread will help the thread settle into the channel. Thanks for this video Jill.
You probably already know this but you can use size 15 seed beads to fit in that little channel too for a different and more polished look. I love wire guards not only for the protection but for the look as well. Thank you for sharing this video. I don't use them nearly enough.
Thank you so much, Jill for giving us a tutorial on the Wire Guardian! I used to use them quite a bit but somehow I stepped away from using them. I LOVE the gorgeous blue bracelet you completed and using the wire guardians with it really added to the beauty of the design. It looked so professional and “completed” the design. Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge with us! You’re just AMAZING❣️❤️💜💚💙🧡
🌞🌵🌻
Again, your savvy solution is making my day! I have bracelets stacking up to finish because of the jump rings...ugh! ordering these today. Thank you 💗
You can also decorate the “channel” with some 15 seed beads. Great video (as usual).
I've been using wire gaurdians for a couple of years now. Everything feels more secure. Thank you for sharing.
Omg gorgeous these pictures! thank you so much. For showing us... you looks fabulous Jill. I’ll check into... thank you again 🧡🧡🧡
A few wire guardian tips
1. Squeeze them together because your jump ring can still slip down and a loose thread. After I put the jump ring on the I immediately squeeze the guardian. Then make a few passes with my thread then go back down into my bead work.
2. I sometimes create a 2 bead ladder for my guardian to sit upon and reinforce through that ladder so I don’t have to try to reinforce through my piece if it already has too many passes.
I have been using these for years. They are a real game changer. Are my suggestions overkill? Yep. However, had I not discovered them I may have given up beading altogether , because I got so discouraged with the clasps.
No, your suggestions aren't overkill. I do it exactly the same way.
I squeeze mind together also.
Oonagh72 That’s really very useful tips! Thank u so much😍🥰😍🥰😍
Your suggestion to add a jump ring to make the clasp sit properly relative to the beaded piece is brilliant. And yes, a size 10 beading needle goes through the guardian tunnel. I am usually able to make 3 passes to reinforce.
I have used the wire guardians several times on bracelets and I LOVE them !!! Great idea !!! ❤❤
Jill thank you for sharing this love your videos YOU ROCK!!!
I have been using these for a few years, but not for my bead weaving. I love it! I have the same issue with jump rings and the tread slipping through. If there was only a way to make them closed. Maybe a video on making a closed copper jump ring would be interesting. Thanks for sharing your know-how. I have learned so much from your great videos.
I use the front section of my crimping pliers to gently squeeze the "legs" closer together.
Wow! This was so educational, thank you. I've never heard of them but now I'll never forget!
Thanks so much for this ingenious way to make closures easier and better.
I just place the clasp onto my wire guard. I don't use the jump ring because they are not reliable like you said! Great video!
I just ordered a variety from your website to have on hand, they will probably be in my mailbox tonight when I get back home. I agree they are superior and I have never felt safe with just thread and jump rings. Before this I used split rings instead of jump rings but this looks way more professional in my opinion.
Sooo happy you have these now. So hard to find in the big box stores
Iv'e been doing this ever since learning this trick from Kelly from Off the Beaded Path. Your explanation is fabulous! Thanks for doing this video :)
Hi Jill! I've used size 10 needles and wire guardians for a long time. I've never been comfortable using just thread. Oh BTW, I squeeze them closed once everything is in place. It's also easier to make the piece adjustable.
Great informative video, wasn't sure if the wire guardians could be reinforced a couple of times. Thanks for answering my question
I find that they are also awesome when making earrings too
Wonderful info, do you have a tutorial on the super duo bracelet? It is beautiful.
Thank you so much, this has been a concern for me & such a pretty solution.
Great video Jill ! I have been using wire guardians for years on all my bead weaving. I love them to death. I wondered why you never used them.
Brilliant ! Thanks Jill. 💞💫
The only wire guardians I ever found were only silver. I love the variety that you have for sale. I also like that I don't have to buy a hundred at a time. I can afford to buy lots of different colors!
Very informative, thank you😍
Now I know what my next order from you will be!
Thank you, this is a great idea! Do you have a video for this bracelet?
Do you have a video for the bracelet? I love it!
nice but can you also show how to start it please and not just the finishing. I am stuck with the start. It's a different way isn't it? Please and thank you
Great video. As always very informative and easy to follow. Could I ask if the blue bracelet is one of your designs ? If so ,what is it called.i would love to give that a try too. Xx
Thanks for sharing. What size guard did you use?
It looks like a great idea! I'm just wondering what metal the Wire Guardians are made of? I'm allergic to nickel so I'm always wary of adding metal details to my beadwork. Actually, my allergy is one of the reasons I started making my own jewellery.
I have changed ALL of my jump rings to OVAL jump rings. The opening is on the side which eliminates the "escape" issue you discuss. 4x6 are easy to find but I prefer using 2x3 oval jump rings. Please let us know when you start carrying this item so I don't have to purchase them from the giant company in southern Oregon who will remain nameless.
I already carry them! shop.jillwisemandesigns.com/oval-jump-rings/
I use these as well. Thank you for the video. I have a question though, lately in the bracelets I've been bead weaving I have the problem where my fireline thread is finding a way out of the tunnels on the wite guardians any tips to keep this from happening? I also use magnetic clasp but the magnets in them are not as strong as I think they should be, any tips on that?
Jill, I woke up thinking this would be a good idea to finish a piece, to add to this do you think a bead cover would work over this?
Uau lindíssima amei👏👏👏👏😘
What size wire guard would you use with 8lb fire line?
Jill, you can say the name of the blue pieces on the bracelet.
Thank you
I don't like it! It make your piece look tacky!!!!
