Congrats on the garden bed! That's super exciting. :) I know its off season but I want to share some garden tips with you! The less you disturb the soil, the less weeds you will have and bigger, happier plants you will get. This is because you maintain the structure of the soil and don't disturb microbes that hang out with your plant's roots. These microbes break down materials in the soil and make nutrients more available to your veggies. For the next year, if you still have the plot, you can apply a heavy layer of compost on top in the spring to suppress weeds and plant into that. You can also use plastic over the plot as a protective barrier and create holes to plant into. If you apply compost and mulch consistently without churning the soil, you will feed the soil without upturning it and causing less weeds to sprout. This helps to keep the soil moist because the air pockets in the soil are preserved and act as a sponge. :) I also love Romanesco but have never grown it. This year I will because you both inspired me!
My husband grows the majority of the fruits and veggies we use. Because we live in a coastal town he uses raised beds to grow most of our food and he only grows organically so that includes raising his own worms and makes his own compost. It's a lot of work but he says it's relaxing so that's a plus. He built a greennouse now so I'm looking forward to see what he grows there.
To be fair, succulents are pretty hard! They're really easy to overwater, and hard to check for disease :( if you're keeping it alive in any state, you're doing greatl
I cover with a tarp and a few rocks to keep weeds away before planting, cover whole area with black plastic that is for gardening, tack down with spikes and cut holes where you plant things, keeps those pesky weeds away! I loved this video, very relaxing. I LOVE and live to garden and grow food.
Aw man i'm jealous of your soil, it's so lovely! My home garden has really heavy clay soil and i've been tearing out sod and fescu. Prep is hard, but the results are worth it! I look forward to seeing your garden grow!
a really easy way of improving your soil is called sheet mulching. you put down cardboard or newspaper, then add layers of leaves, manure, compost and top it off with a layer of wood chips. its best done in the winter when less is growing. it's also way easier than using a hoe to loosen your soil.
Watching this made me want to return to living minimally and simply. Like if you are growing your own foods, you would already be doing physical activities for the maintenance of your body while also being able to reap the literal fruit of that effort in your garden. I'm lucky to have already been living in a village where the people around me are indirectly setting an example on how to live this way. Thank you Jun for being so inspiring! ^^
As somebody who just did all of this with the terrible soil at my house (in addition to tearing out awful landscaping fabric), its deeply satisfying to watch other people doing it~
You are such a HARD WORKER!! And that is why you get back, from universe, SO MANY BLESSINGS (GIFTS ie Rachel and your precious cats) because you put in with all that you have and are! You are a BEAUTIFUL SOUL. God bless you, and your whole family. LOVELY 🙏
Great Video, but a serious question: did you consider getting an small insertable wall? with the purpose as to avoid weeds/ plants and some insects not coming over from the neighbouring slots? since you can see at the end though that they also spread over from the sides.. having those small insert walls can help a but keeping the weeds under controll. Also prevents a bit the spilling/mixing over of your compost/ferts/ from your side to the neighbour and vice versa?
Ideally I would do raised beds or a hoop/green house. It keeps weeds, bugs and other nibblers, most diseases, and harsh weather out. If you can dig out most of the soil you can put down a weed net and some chicken wire to help weeds and gophers at least. If there's gophers in Japan.....
Hey Jun, if you want to suppress the weeds and retain moisture I recommend mulching. An option for next season to skip the tilling of the ground is a method called "lasagna gardening". This is where you chop and drop the weeds and stack layers of cardboard/sticks/compost and manure repeatedly until you get the desired height. The cardboard acts as a suppression layer to the weeds underneath, smothering the plants below. This can make a sort of raised garden bed without having to haul in a bunch of soil or having to dig out the unwanted plants. Good luck with your garden!
I love the relationship you have with your cats, unfortunately my cat Taylor died a month ago and it hurts so much to see him lost, the relationship with him was the same love as you to your cats. Jun! Cover the ground area with mulch/cardboard/plastic tarp to prevent weeds from growing.. And if you find weeds, just pull them out and leave them there to become compost. It will be alot less work.

The "mystery" tool is actually a garden adze. Kinda like a hoe, but with a longer blade. It cultivates deeper, and breaks up soil recently cleared of top growth that typically has a lot of root material in it.
Wow, good job jun. I was thinking of growing my own garden too!! I want to start from tomatoes since it was said to be very easy to grow. I hope your garden will do well.
Nice work. My family also farms. Prep tips, if you're looking for any: I mix in mushroom compost and soil-moist into the planting holes. Feeds all year and holds water in the heat of summer. Small gardens I've enjoyed planting: grocery vegetables like you've done, an herb and salad garden to cut greens from, and an herbal tea garden (chamomile, mint, lemongrass, etc.) Use all 3 every day so the work stays rewarding.
I always used straw between my planting rows. It cuts down on weeding, will compost, makes nice rows, and is super easy to do. Just pull off chunks set them between rows.
By the sound of your tool hitting the ground, I can hear your soil must be very sandy. Its nice to watch someone doing this kind of work. For the first time I saw someone else working on knees with a tool. It's more comfortable cause you can keep your spine straight easily. Looking forward to watch next episodes. Greetings from the other side of the world!
Carrots, Kale, Cauliflower and quick growing things like lettuces (leaf style), radishes and spinach all grow fairly quickly in the autumn here in Michigan if planted now. I don't know if Japan has an agricultural department, but if they do, see if they have any leaflets or tips. Also I recommend planting through newspaper or other shredded paper to keep weeds down, and feed the soil as it breaks down. Straw, grass clippings, and other clean veg clippings can do the same thing.
Hey, if you guys eat eggs the shell to alkaline the soil. You have to wash and dry them first. After that make the shell in to a fine powder. It will slowly release in the soil over time and is good for the plants. Good luck

Also prevents a bit the spilling/mixing over of your compost/ferts/ from your side to the neighbour and vice versa?
yeah, I was thinking that the weeds will keep interfering with him trying to grow his veggies :(
Ideally I would do raised beds or a hoop/green house.
97itachiuchiha he didn't even put fabric or cardboard down!
Very envious of how 'fluffy' your soil is! Its interesting (to me) that you use a hoe to break up the soil, whereas in England we would use a fork.
To my eyes it looks like almost pure sand.
I love the relationship you have with your cats, unfortunately my cat Taylor died a month ago and it hurts so much to see him lost, the relationship with him was the same love as you to your cats. I love that you feel that affection and feeling your cats are a love and their personalities I love greetings from Chile
Ich liebe Deine Empathische Art wie Du mit Deinen Katzen umgehst. Du bist ein sehr guter Koch und so ordentlich. Perfekt....Klasse....jedes Video ist so nett gemacht😍
Jun! Cover the ground area with mulch/cardboard/plastic tarp to prevent weeds from growing.. And if you find weeds, just pull them out and leave them there to become compost. It will be alot less work.
videos like this make me wanna quit school and move to the countryside to become a gardener!
Jun should be used in research "what makes Jun make everything likeable?"
Awww. Nagi is my favorite cat! But I like Poki and Haku too!
Nagi, pretty boy
@@osakarose5612 My favorite second of Haku is in the „A day in cat life" , when Haku's pupil dilance happened!
Nagi, the sweet, little squirrel butt, he is do the cutest.
Poki, the smart and chubby cuteness.
Haku, the sweetheart big brother, who protect his brothers. And he is cute too of course.
I never knew how enjoyable it is to learn about gardening. My dad has a strawberry patch that he takes care of, maybe I can help him. Gardening seems like a lot of work, but very fun and rewarding
The "mystery" tool is actually a garden adze. Kinda like a hoe, but with a longer blade. It cultivates deeper, and breaks up soil recently cleared of top growth that typically has a lot of root material in it.
Awesome! I'm very impressed by how dedicated {and hardworking!} you are
very excited to see the progress!
Since the Plot is so prone to weeds, it could be a good idea to put some gravel anywhere you arent planning to grow.
I love that you can rent a garden plot. Such a great idea for a family garden!
You can put down weed barrier like cardboard or landscaping fabric to stop the weeds while you're gone. Awesome to see y'all in the soil!
We love you guys from Portland!!
I've tried gardening and it's way harder than in minecraft
Wow, good job jun. I was thinking of growing my own garden too!! I want to start from tomatoes since it was said to be very easy to grow. I hope your garden will do well.
ratih dwi zulya yes tomatoes are very easy to grow I successfully grew some and I can kill just about any type of plant

Jun you look so good with the beard and new hairstyle ! Happy to see you two are very well !!
Watching Juns content. My stressed is relieved. The video is so relaxing

EYYYY man this is the first time I'm watching his channel after a while and his english pronunciation has IMPROVED. Good on ya boi!!!!
That’s some fine-looking dirt
Jun plays Harvest Moon in real life.
You have sandy soil. That is a wonderful soil for Grapes. I am sure you can grow Grapes. What a wonderful place to make memories.
Hey, if you guys eat eggs the shell to alkaline the soil. You have to wash and dry them first. After that make the shell in to a fine powder. It will slowly release in the soil over time and is good for the plants. Good luck
