i thought Rachel was having a wild hair day the first few seconds of the vid until it started moving and realized that was Haku behind, he blended so well, but also i wasn't wearing my glasses lmao
As an English speaker, I am totally fine with reading subtitles and/or broadening my vocabulary if you guys want to do Japanese-only videos more often! It's very nice to listen to even if I don't understand it
Yeah, I don't mind either. I like reading English subtitles while hearing Japanese, it helps with learning not just more Japanese words, but the flow of the language as well
The way he said that was just too cute! Like he was saddened that he too would be considered old because they're about the same age, lol! It's okay, I think I'm the same age as Rachel and I still say "sweet" as well. It's an ageless word...unlike "lit".
I dunno about you but I, as a youth, feel ashamed when I say lit haha. Lit seems to mostly be used ironically, or by people who want to sound "gangster." Not always, but mostly.
As an English speaking viewer, as long as there are subtitles in English, you can speak entirely in Japanese so your Japanese audience can understand 👍👍👍
yeah, same. I think language like that generally sticks around for quite awhile, or quickly returns. I daily use (and hear ppl my age saying) rad, sweet and sick but I know a lot of older people seemed oddly shocked by that ? and usually go off saying "lit" (which I've never rlly heard unironically ?) for 30 minutes to taunt me for "stealing their lingo" afterwards lmfao
This actually looks a lot cooler than the foaming toilet candy lol. Just voted for Jun's kitchen, love the channel and the recipes (and the cats). Poki was such a good boy this time.
I always find it so fascinating how the demeanor of a person changes depending on the language being used. When Rachel speaks in English, she’s very energetic and bubbly. However, when she speaks in Japanese, I noticed that her voice lowers and softens. Thanks for sharing such a fun activity!
There is a theory that the language you speak might have an influence on how you think, form ideas and carry yourself. It depends on the language structure I think.
A while back she said somewhere that she is very loud in Japanese Standards. So maybe she learned the more quieter tone when she speaks Japanese since when she speaks to Japanese people she will tone it down and now it comes naturally with the language 🤔
Whenever I speak Mandarin my friends tell me my voice gets higher pitched. Maybe it has something to do with how you use the muscles in your mouth and throat for each language. :)
I love hearing Rachel and Jun speak Japanese. It's interesting to hear since we don't really hear a lot of it on this channel. It may also help with those trying to learn the language :)
@@Osprey1994 it's up to them. Since they make subs often anyhoo for english vids they might as well speak Japanese. What's the difference? The subs are in English.
I like Nami too. 俺も「波」が好きです。 PS: I don't know if "sweet" is still relevant youth slang (or "lit" for that matter), but since you were making candy, it seems appropriate :)
Even though these award shows suck, you guys get my vote any day! I love your dynamic, and how Jun always encourages Rachel and Rachel is always so bubbly and outgoing! JunsKitchen is my favourite cooking channel!
When I was in 2nd grade the whole second grade did a thing called "Japan Day" at school. each class had a different solid color tye dye pattern shirt (my class got black) and we learned about japanese culture among other things. I think the teacher s wore kimonos but all i can remember was the arizona tea, rice krispy treat "sushi", and the cherry blossom tissue paper crafts we glued onto some paper... Idk if we learned much that day considering all us kids were like 7 years old. I do remember the Zen garden activity where we had mini gardens with actual sand and rocks.
I just love how they try working around the cats XDD 5:10 yes Rachel people still say sweet 6:45 yeah Jun you can actually find those sweets in a lot of different places, mostly you would find them in stores that are pro-baking and decorating and stuff, it's basically chocolate that is shaped like a rock 6:48 " I like it this is kind of fun" have Jun done anything other than put stuff in the microwave and take it out??? XD 8:00 can we just appreciate the interaction between those two? I mean I'm just sitting enjoying hearing them talk to each other it's so adorable! and im like I kind of want to have that kind of relationship in the future 9:00 poki is like "what is going on... ha mama's hand, i lick" Also I am not Japanese but I know Japanese to an extent and I also would not mind hearing Jun speak more Japanese, I just find his voice very calming and very nice to listen to both in English and in Japanese and he have so much expression when he speaks in Japanese XD I find it very amusing and I liked it! and I like hearing Rachel speak Japanese too! just like, do a mix of the two languages cuz it's fun! XP but I hope you win!!! congratulations and good luck!!!
those little chocolate rock candy can also be found in asian candy stores, I see them a lot whenever i visit different ones so they're probably just something most of them have ^^
As long as there is good CC i don't mind the japanese parts. Loved those kinds of kits when i was a kid. I had one for growing surgar crystal lollipops and one for making balloon animals.
I enjoy when you guys speak Japanese. I'm currently learning the language, and I need all the practice I can get. It helps my listen comprehension be as well as learning the flow of the language, so please continue
Poki raking the garden was everything this video needed. 😍😂🌸 My hubby is really, REALLY hoping we'll be able to go to Japan in the next few years. My first thought was I WANNA SEE RACHEL AND JUUUUN! 😂 We are another international couple so I feel kinda connected to you guys. I'm from WV and he's British and we live in England.
2:34 when Haku starts "eating the zen rake" .... A fly was on my screen at the same time and made it look like he was trying to 'eat the fly'. LMAO 🤣🤣🤣👌
I was all zen (heh) and relaxed while watching this. Just a nice, fun vlog to watch, but when you put that rake in between Poki's toes, I literally started scream laughing!! I'm not even joking, that was the hardest I've laughed in a very long time! And here's to Poki for being such a good sport and putting up with his humans antics!! The goodest boy!
It's also nice for American viewers to hear the Japanese too. Thanks Jun! I'm okay because I have subtitles to read :D I'm excited, I might learn/pick up another language!
Why does February 2020 feel like a whole lifetime ago 😭 so nice to go back and watch these videos though, thanks R & J for the endlessly lovely content 💕

HAHAHAHAHA
SpaceCate Same!
That's what I saw too despite wearing glasses
Don't worry, I was wearing my glasses and even I thought the same thing LOL
Im so glad im not the only one!

Exactly my thoughts!!
Agreeeeddd
Yup, doesn't bother me
Japanese is a a lovely language to listen to.
Yeah, I don't mind either. I like reading English subtitles while hearing Japanese, it helps with learning not just more Japanese words, but the flow of the language as well
It helps to learn some of the short, conversational phrases and reactions, too!
Rachel: crying she's lost touch with the youth while using sweet instead of lit
Jun: I.. I would say sweet..
Idk about u but that was pretty sweet
The way he said that was just too cute! Like he was saddened that he too would be considered old because they're about the same age, lol! It's okay, I think I'm the same age as Rachel and I still say "sweet" as well. It's an ageless word...unlike "lit".

waitingfor2020 I totally agree!
I agree!
I enjoy hearing him speak Japanese, and Rachel, for that matter.
Same! plus JP in awesome so be my guest!
Same, it's not a problem for me. As long as there are subtitles I'm happy.
The “I can’t zen” is like the “I cannot knot” joke but in Japanese 😂
trueeee
Interesting similarity
I can't brain 😂 I can't math either
I didn't get to that part of the video yet, but then I realized what you meant! And that pun makes me so happy!!
The kid, after eating all that sugar and chocolate rocks: *Z̶̼͔̰͚̈̑͌Ę̸͔̤̊N̵͔̬͛̿̐͘͝*
I'm with, ZEN
i can reassure you, rachel, that the youth still says 'sweet' as a slang
personally i go with 'neat'
on the other hand, i don't really see people say lit irl. to my friends and i at least, it sounds super cringey if one of us says lit unironically
The youth here say litty, litmus, sEnSaTiOnAl, satisfaction guaranteed, v niiiiiiiiiiiiiiice, and (chefs kiss)
Honestly, it depends on the person. I just stick to cool and nice because I'm boring like that.
For me, it ranges from toight/noice to Extravegant, Brilliant, and Absolutely stupendous!
From regular teen to British man from the 1800's

3:25 - Haku: "Do not pester me, you peasant"
9:05 - Poki: "I guess this is my life now"
Haku showing us his amazing bod thinking its all about him and being so disappointed when daddy shooed him off.
Missed the opportunity for a cat pun. "This is my life meow"
“Jun you're not making me feel very zen” favorite part
"Zen's supposed to come from within.

Well since Japanese is pitch based instead of stress based like English...
It’s been a while I’ve heard Jun speak Japanese...his Japanese kinda makes me sleepy
His voice is kinda soothing...
No way, he is way too enthusiastic. It’s sounds exactly like anime.
I've almost fallen asleep while watching his cooking videos so many times lmao
He should do ASMR videos in Japanese
@@manicmuffin rather than asmr, literally just a compilation of him speaking
Love the character development of Poki, he’s such a calm boi now aw

all of their channels are hahah
=) and we ain't even mad about it.
@@TheodoreStagnum Yes, I think Rachel even made a comment about that on one of their channels.

Yes! It helps a lot! Hearing real people speak about real life things is super helpful for me!
Jun filming and not doing the craft at all: This is kinda fun 😄
Poki’s like: “is it food?”
Main Poki mode: is it food?
Other Poki modes: 404 not found
Rachel, as a student in America, I can confirm that “the youth” still say “sweet” lolol
9:09
LOL poki face was like “😕” so cute :3
I looove the new bilingual approach to your vlogs Jun! It's especially handy for me who's trying to learn Japanese. Please keep it this way!
You do know they have to make the subtitles right? The reason they don't do subtitles is because it's a lot of work to get everything synced up.
