    I understand why people listen to music and podcasts while they exercise, but I feel really sorry for those who miss being in the present moment with nature because of it. Same thing with being on the phone. I hardly ever see anyone at my complex paying attention to their dog when they walk them... their phone is always taking precedent.
    Mindfulness can be one of the best things ever! Being human! Yes! 🤗 Thanks, Dr. Ali.

      I feel the same way with going for a walk in NYC. When I allow myself the experience of mindfully walking through the city, it's amazing how much is happening around me and inside of me.

    Really glad you mentioned computer games. I often worry that the flow state is more distraction/diversion/detatchment than mindfulness.

    Vegan cooking and vegetable gardening! Also a good way to practice mindfulness is during reading. I always notice myself going off on a new train of thought and then having to refocus and 'observe' that I had those thoughts and return to my reading

    As an artist on the side, I love drawing! The problem is if I start I’ll end up drawing for hours 😅

    • @drali
      @drali  5 років тому +12

      One exercise for you might be allowing yourself to draw for 5 minutes and then move forward. You'll likely experience many judgments with having an "incomplete" drawing and have an urge to go back to it. The mindfulness challenge for you will be to move forward with what you have to do despite those judgments.

    For me, ironing my clothes!!! I learned to practice mindfulness in the military during boot camp! I would look forward to Ironing my clothes and thought how weird that was. I had earned my Bachelor's in psychology before entering the military and with that minimal background I knew there was more to that behavior than simple ironing. It was only till I started practicing in the mental health field that I learned what the ironing was doing for me!

    Yesterday I planned a mindful-walk through the park. I turned off my phone, went outside into the sun. Cold wind around my face, brown autumn leafs crunching under my shoes... But I ended my mindfullness-idea when I stepped into dogpoo 😅😜 Nah, skipped a bit of mindfulness there. 😆

    I sing, play guitar, play with a baby. I run and stop in the middle to build in a present moment, as I have often noticed I’ve not remembered most of the run. Music is different when you are playing or singing it, trying to create it. It also changes how you listen to songs if you practice or try to recreate it. Also drawing or sketching is observe-heavy. Beaches with my feet in sand!

    Hi thank you for this video
    I have a question! When we do mindfulness exercises we don't care about our usual thoughts I mean the ones that don't let us be mindful. But the problem is that my mind wants to emphasize on those thoughts and even if I don't care about them and stay mindful for 5 or 10 mins then after that my thoughts become like a flood and I lose my mindfulness again. Am I doing it wrong? What should I do with those thoughts?

    How do you practice mindfulness in your life?

    • @BlackHayateTheThird
      @BlackHayateTheThird 5 років тому +3

      Well your video made me realize how much I practice mindfulness everyday, and this video brought up an interesting thought. You often talk about letting go of judgements while you do tasks, and I realized that I rarely make judgements, especially while practicing mindfulness. Every morning while I'm waiting for my kettle I take a couple minutes to look out the window and just observe what kind of day it is, what action is going on, the people or sounds. I try to go for nature walks a couple times a week, and I actively try to observe what is there, who is around me. I do adult colouring as a way to unwind/ self-care. I even do more advanced mindfulness techniques like deep meditation, body checks, breathing, etc. Rarely do I make any judgements during any of this- it might be in other areas of my life, but even then I rarely make judgements about myself or those around me (or even judge things), and perhaps that habit of incorporating mindfulness so often in my life helps me be so open and accepting/ less judgemental? Especially helps me accept my chronic (currently undiagnosed) pain and get through each day? In any case, excellent video and I feel like it's helped me to think about why I have incorporated so much mindfulness into my everyday routines. Thank you for the video!

      I like to look at shapes and patterns and designs in things like rugs or the composition of rocks or tile in my home and try to make out faces or animals or people. I try to come up with as many characters as possible. The items I default to first are heels, boots and phones. Weird, I know.

    • @drali
      @drali  5 років тому

      Thank you for sharing so much of your experience! It is amazing how much mindfulness you have integrated into your life. I think you are right on here - getting so much practice with being present, experiencing everyday moments (without judgement) has likely helped you to deal with the more difficult aspects of your life (e.g. chronic pain). Mindfulness is a skill and it's one you have developed a lot 😀

    • @drali
