Could this strange, waxy, poo like substance be our ticket to riches?!? While strolling along on the beach Sierra found this very odd looking little blob that we thought could possibly be (FINGERS CROSSED 🤞 ) veryyyy rare and INCREDIBLY valuable. We don't wanna give any spoilers here....so all I will say is this...please let us know what you think about all of this in the comments, help us solve this mystery!!!

Brian, I was with Brady and Blue in the SF Bay and we stumbled on a huge glob around 30kg of black waxy stuff and before we could take a small sample for testing 😉, we had new sailboats on order.
I have a lab with an XRPD X-ray in San Jose, I tested a small sample we and It turned out to be wax that is used to clean oil tankers. The simplest test is to melt some in a spoon, if it melts like black tar, it’s 99.9% ambergris if it melts clear it’s wax 😢. I have a small Polaroid of Brady & I that Blue took along with a piece of the black wax we found on my desk as a memorable souvenir, it’s priceless. I temporarily changed my profile pic to the chuck of ambergris we found. Fun times
One of my favorite sayings is complacency kills. Brian your vigilance with the anchor chain is admirable. You seem to think of everything. Imagine all the ways hyper vigilance has saved you, your crew, and Delos over the years. Especially when it comes to weather and route planning. Kudos to you!
That is a very just observation IMO. I always feel like nobody notices this although he isn't under appreciated in any way. it's so hard to like you say be hyper vigilant and not over do it either. He must be a genius or he has figured something out at least. Absolute beast of a man.

I read a story about a man who found some on an Aussie beach many years ago. He knew what it was and was very excited. What he did not know was that by placing it on an extremely hot rock, that it would melt into a liquid and flow away, most of it to be unrecoverable.
Moral to the story, don't let it get too warm.

Hold onto it until you get to a place that can test it with you there. So awesome that it was Sierra who found it. She has a great eye! And I love her vlogging! The things one finds on a beach! We have what are called 'glass balls', which used to be the floats for fishing nets back before Styrofoam came to be used and on some remote beaches here in Alaska, you can sometimes either find a complete one or glass shards from them. Nice find Sierra!
Brian, I love how you slipped the NordVPN spot into the body of the video. Wove it into the narrative of the story, instead of just making it one lllloooonnnngggg commercial! I spent years in radio broadcasting in Seattle, writing and producing commercials and worked at making them NOT sound like commercials!
Interesting way to anchor, but it totally makes sense. I'm wondering how this technique changes the amount of scope you have to put out, since your catenary is reduced due to the floats keeping the chain off the corals. Here in Alaska, I sometimes use an anchor trip line on the front of the anchor, ahead of the shank and anchor swivel, in areas where there are rocks. I'll attach this trip line to a buoy so that if I can't get the chain/rode up normally, I can pull the trip line up and get the flukes out of the rocks.
Cool about the ambergris! If it's not that, maybe you can make some candles for Sierra's next b'day celebration!

When you burn it, the red hot needle leaves a white mark, and releases a strong smell of pine.
If its amber gris, locals on the islands will know, and pharmacists in the main towns (as they are chemists too)
I would not make as much of a big deal about this, because if it’s real you might be bringing in tribe leaders and Govt. claiming you found it on their territory. Next thing you know you have a legal battle from hell.
Hey Brian/Kazza , its been a while since I've had land time to catch up with your travels. Last I saw Nugget was Xmas at your dads a cpl years back. I just wanna say WOW !! She has grown so much and is such an Angel !!! What a life she has travelling the waters with Mom & Dad and learning more than any school could ever teach. I hope to cross wakes some day in the future and finally step on Delos. FYI it’s actually very very valuable ( if it actually was that) in Arabian culture and countries it’s used to make the most amazing Arabian perfume and oil base parfumerie that royal families and the wealthy families use it for gifting the most loved guests or important people as well as brides and grooms.. also mixed with western perfumes creating a scent that is super amazing and indulging ( by the way the GCC culture are very well knows for smelling amazing
I found several kilos of wax on a beach once, a huge piece in northern Oregon or somewhere in Washington state. It had a strange natural formation. We melted it down and made it into a giant candle in a huge tin and it also served as a camp fire, once it became hot enough the entire surface would turn into one huge flame.
I have a feeling if you “send it in somewhere”, they’ll just say, “Nope. It’s not ambergris. So, we’ll just dispose of it for you”.
No kidding!
Or call the cops. In most countries it’s illegal to possess.

@@charonstyxferryman why would I do that? I have no idea what that stuff is. I googled it. Try it. Apparently it’s like ivory or eagle feathers. I actually have an owl feather that I found on my front steps one morning, and it seems crazy for a second, but yes possessing it is a crime. The idea is to discourage people from killing and exterminating species for various products. I know Nugs didn’t kill that whale as surely as I know the owl feather was left there for me. But the rules also kind of make sense to me.
It was so magical the way Sierra seemed to know that chunk was on the beach! Therefore, I take it seriously! Don't send it anywhere, just keep it safe til you're somewhere that it can be tested! 🧡♥️🐋🐋🐋🎃🎃

I think of my childhood all I remember is the times I got to go on boats and vacationing at the beach etc, it was my most fun memories!

Dear friends on SV Delos, I do not want you to be too optimistic... But on your video about your finding your ambregris I noticed rests of squid beaks and probably other solid stuff and this might lower the quantity of real ambregris to be sold... meaning less cash for you... I just hope you (Or Sierra again !) to find plenty other large pieces of pure ambregris. Good luck and lots of love from my tiny island of Bréhat (France)...
