This is my RPG of the year, best stories and best soundtrack, to not be nominated for any is criminal. When I finished this, I was sad it was over but damn I was glad it happened. You are a real one my guy and appreciate such genius in OT2.
The OST reminded me of Kondo and Nuematsu merged into one, I highly doubt FFXVI ost (although I haven't played it) is better, if it is then it was a great year for music in gaming.
I haven’t played FF XVI also but I play a lot of FF XIV which is also scored by Masayoshi Soken. Currently playing Octopath 2 (Done with Castti, Temenos and Throné and everybody else is already in the last or second to last chapter as of this moment. Just saying this so you will know what I already heard and what else I didn’t.). Comparing the music of FF and Octopath, what stands out in Nishiki’s compositions are his melodies and how he changes the layering of instruments as the song progresses (not a musician btw so I’m just using layman’s terms to explain this musical stuff). The Main Theme is the best example of this but a personal favorite of mine is At Your Back. Another one and for me, this is where Octopath is the best at, is the transition from the Character In Pursuit of themes to the boss battle themes especially Decisive Battle/Critical Clash 2. The closest I can think of to this is the Persona 5 awakening ost but Octopath is just more creative and dynamic and just brings out the feels in you better. Soken on the other hand, creates songs that are more connected to each other (again, I haven’t played ff16 yet but I already listened to some of the ost and watched the demo and I’m surprised that Soken somehow manages to sneak in references from FF14 music without actually playing a full FF14 melody.). To give an example, the different motifs in the Main Themes of Soken’s compositions are scattered all throughout the game with different variations. My all time favorite ost in all of gaming is the final boss theme of the latest ff xiv expansion, Endwalker which is a medley of all expansion osts that came before it and tops it off with the Endwalker main theme itself. Not yet heard how Soken does this in FF XVI but knowing how Soken composes and from what I’ve heard already, I have no doubt that the osts in FF XVI are all time great compositions. In the end, I still think FF XVI is the winner but Octopath 2 should replace any other nominee in the Best in Musical Score. The main reason for me is, while Nishiki makes compositions fitting to every cutscene, Soken makes compositions where specific notes are tailored to specific moments in cutscenes.
remember how Xenoblade 3 got soundtrack stolen ? It's the same here. This is a very western award, so aside from Nintendo and FF, nobody gets nominated (except that one time 13 sentinels got the best narration in 2020)
Easy! Was it truly transformative compared to the other RPGs nominated? In my humble opinion NO, the game is game but really felt like more of the same of part one. I actually forgot it dropped this year and I got like 95 hours in lol I know how you feel about FF16 and look that's not even nominated for the Game of the year or even Starfield. If games are getting the snub this year just wait till next year when like 6 big RPGs are dropping in or around February
@kelvingunawan1099 honestly... not even trying to be a contrarian, but I would genuinely take Starfield over Octopath 2. That's not because Starfield is so great, but even for as shallow as it was, it's still better than Octopath, IMO. Sea of Stars, tho, yeah, is worse than Octopath in every regard.

Starfiled should give its nomination to Octopath 2

OT2 deserved best soundtrack😊
100% agreed!

Yeah, it probably should be nominated for at least ost category, even though FFXVI will just get the win regardless 😂
My goty, octopath traveler 2 fixed all the mediocrity of OT in every way. Castti my girl.
I disagree with primrose she is the best in her game

It is a mediocre game, as much as some of you guys want to tell us otherwise. Great OST, though.
'Cause frankly, it isn't that great. Highly overrated just like the first one.
The problem is, shits like Sea of Stars and Starfield got nominated lol. That's why people rage.

@@howie3601 once you've played more, you'll see how shallow it is by comparison.
bcus it's trash
Highly disagree.
Yet worse trash which are Sea of Stars and Starfield got nominated.
Starfield is the worst trash
Maybe becuase Square did not wanted a second game that competed with Final Fantasy 16?
