- Archie is just two years old and weighs almost six stone, or 84 pounds. He has a rare genetic disease called MOMO syndrome, which belongs to the family of overgrowth syndromes. This disease has only been diagnosed in four cases in the world. The name is an acronym of the four primary aspects of the disorder: Macrosomia (excessive birth weight), Obesity, Macrocephaly (excessive head size) and Ocular abnormalities.

Baby has asthma and pulmonary infections and she's smoking in the house? PLEASE. Even if she only does it when he's not there the smoke in the house is still an irritant and will trigger asthma attacks and irritate his infected lungs.

Smokers not only they must not smoke inside their house, but when they go out for smoking, they must change their clothes before they go back inside!

This breaks my heart. I have a sibling who suffers from a rare autoimmune disease so to a point I relate, but I can't fathom just how cruel Archies disorder is not only cruel in terms of its life shortening prospects and the suffering he goes through, but the pain the parents are put through because people are uneducated they see this boy and it's an automatic assumption that somehow you're a bad parent. It's just an extremely horrendous and cruel disease to not only the child effected but the families who have to watch them suffer.
He's so much bigger than a normal infant that it blows my mind anyone can look at him and assume it's due to bad parenting. It's such a big difference that it can't be overfeeding.

This mom deserves a lot of credit and understanding as well as the siblings. The whole family suffers when there's child with a serious disability.

I can't imagine the stress these parents had at Archie's birth when you don't have knowledge from Dr's if your baby will live or die, but that trip to Brazil, gave her some sort of being at peace knowing she wasn't alone... and she really needed that!

Four months after giving birth to my son I started rapidly gaining weight. I gained over 100 pounds in around 8 months. I was accused of being lazy and overeating. I had postpartum depression and they said that depressed people eat too much and wouldn't believe me when I swore that I barely ate. I started having severe pain in my joints and eventually couldn't walk without assistance. Their only answer was that I needed to eat less, exercise more and lose weight. And I was told to see a psychiatrist. It took 6.5 years to be diagnosed with Cushing's disease caused by a tumor in my pituitary gland. I was soooooo happy to hear that I had a brain tumor. Because there was a reason. But I wish I would have known then that I would never feel normal again.
I'm sorry to hear that.. I have UC and I go from hypothyroidism to hyperthyroidism.. it really sucks ..I'm on an weight rollercoaster.. then I ended up getting hurt and had seven back surgeries.. I'll never get the wait off now🤷🏿♀️

A common behavior in a family is the afflicted child requires so much attention and energy, the other children suffer. This family looks ok. All the children get love and attention. Wonderful parenting at work!!

I know a lot of people in the comments are looking for updates. I couldn't find much, but Archie was definitely alive as of 2018, when unfortunately his mother passed away. Per her obituary, she had moved to the United States in 2004 (not too long after this documentary was made) and remarried in 2005. At the time of her obituary being published in 2018, Archie is listed as having survived her and still living in England. He would have been 16 at that time. I hope he is doing well.
I’ve seen this video before years ago. I have no idea what happened to him but I’d like to know as well. He was born in 2002 so he’s 18 now if he’s still alive.

It's shameful. We now know that just having smoke residue on your clothes around children is damaging. I can thank my dear old dad for that, have scar tissue in my sinuses.

How many of us grew up with parents who knew about smoking risks yet they continued to smoke in cars houses whatever. Move on folks

I HATE it when little ones are ill like this. If I ran the universe, little ones would never be ill. At the same time his family is so loving and caring it makes me hopeful for all of them.
Makes me happy seeing Danielle beautiful and living a healthy lifestyle as a normal teenager even with Momo syndrome. I pray that she and Archie are still both doing what they want and continue to live a life free of setbacks bc of what they were born with.❤️

I did Google it, and the story that came up was clearly a different child named Archie, with different diagnosis. Couldn't find anything about Archie from this video.
Sarah, Archie's mom did pass away in 2018. Would be wonderful to have an update on how her family is doing.

I too had a Baby that was huge and put on a pound a Week. She was the biggest baby the Doctors here had ever seen. Always the biggest child in School until she reached puberty then things slowed.
She is now a happy Adult and a beautiful soul.

This family is so courageous for sharing their story. The fear of knowing Archie’s life is limited, that there is no cure, nor research, must be so painful. Yet they are still smiling. I hope more research or developments have been done for MOMO, and that Archie is thriving.

Someone commented that his Mom had passed on in 2018. I hope to goodness regardless of whether he "grew out" of his weight gain by getting taller, I hope these lovely parents found some measure of peace with all of this. It is very clear that Archie is loved. He doesn't cry, he doesn't throw tantrums - their kids - their family is LOVED by her. Even with the family issues, they can look back on this journey, knowing they walked these steps together.

He’s doing just fine! He’s no longer obese and looks like a typical kid. You can find him on Facebook if you look up “Archie Thompson Icklesham” His name is “Archie Thompson (Bud)” so it’s easy to identify him!

Macrosomia is so rare and only discovered in the early 90's. Rare conditions do not have research grants leading to treatment, sadly. Archie is such an adorable boy having to endure his condition. His parents love him so much.

Unfortunately a lot of people don't know some medical condition exists till it happens to you or someone close to you. I was diagnosed with a intracrainal hypertension. No idea what it was when I was diagnosed. Basically symptoms mimic as if I have a brain tumor. There's no cure just what my doc calls temporary fixes. Luckily doesn't shorten my life as long as its being treated.

Achie is a big boy now. He is perfectly fine and living normal. He should be 18yrs now as this video was 2004. I learnt the Mum is late now, though.

Sarah, the mother, remarried in 2004 and lived out her life in Oklahoma USA till she passed away March 12 2018. Her children, Marie, Mollie and Archie stayed in icklesham and are okay.

Sadly Archie died at 16 years old. The condition placed a large strain on his heart and lungs.. rest n peace Archie

Why do the English 'still' use a STONE, to describe a person's weight, versus kilograms? In fact, they also convert stones to pounds, instead of kilograms. What the heck? Even in ancient times, stones had various weights, but now, a stone = 14 pounds; ergo 6 STONE = 64 pounds, whereas someone weighing 69 pounds is called 6 stone 5. Wth?
