Today We’re going to be comparing the two most-popular type of white wines, the two types of still whites you’re most likely to find on the shelves of your local wine shop so next time you go there, you know which one you should pick, and why.
We’re going to be talking about and comparing wines made from two different grapes, both of French origin: Chardonnay on one side, the most popular of all white wines, in the US and around the world, and Sauvignon Blanc on the other side.
I’m going to be telling you what are the key characteristics of these two wines and how they differ, and then I’m going to go one step further, comparing two Chardonnays, one from France, from Chablis a very famous type of French Chardonnay from Burgundy, with a California Chardonnay, namely Rombauer. And I’ll be tasting a French Sauvignon blanc from the Loire valley of France, with a Sauvignon Blanc from a country that’s now become very popular for its Sauv Blanc wines: New Zealand.

See you around in the wonderful world of wine 😊🙏🥂🥂
WOW! I learned so much from this single video! thank you for sharing your knowledge of wines with us!
So wonderful to see your video! Not sure why they are not showing up. Love this discussion. When someone asks me what is my favorite wine, I answer wine. I totally get why you don’t want to rank. Your advice on Bordeaux was awesome…it was such a fun trip. Now I am thinking Burgundy. This was perfect. I have just moved to Sonoma County. So awesome to be in the heart of California wine country. Looking forward to more videos like this!
A true lecture on these two white grape wine varieties.Every word hits the target.
Thank you Julien!
Great video. I agree. The Sauvignon Blanc is a more narrow taste when matching it to food. I love it with ginger.
Cheers James. Glad you enjoyed the video 🙏😊 see you around 😊 take care!
great comparison thanks for sharing and cheers from NZ
Cheers Dave :) Appreciate the support. Say Kia ora to Aotearoa for me pls... Take care mate 🙏🥂😊

Have you seen this other wine channel I manage: ua-cam.com/channels/SHHB3SBhaygeRxzTBV5kMA.html
I make weekly wine videos there too :) Cheers, take care and see you around YT 🥂🤗
ah Julian, nicely explained why I adore NZ Sav Blanc and not so much Chardonnay. What I also look for is hints of gooseberry in my wine apart from all the ones you mentioned.
tx mate :) Glad you enjoye dthe vid. See you around. Cheers! 🍷
In Australia and New Zealand, about 25 to 30 years ago there was cork shortage, most bottles that I’d open would break when I working as a waiter. With screw tops, there’s less chance of oxidation compared with corks. It’s not as romantic as a cork, but if you’ve got style, it can be!
Thanks for the note and info. Appreciated 🙏😊 I made a video comparing cork with screwcap here if you feel like having a look: ua-cam.com/video/tVKlJr8Ge4k/v-deo.html
Cheers 🥂❤
very informative and clear
Glad you liked it! Thank you kindly for your kind words of support 🙏🙏😊🍷
It was an amazing video indeed and fascinating explanation, however i am still yet to learn what the main points of the differences between the two are?
Hi there Aude/ Tx for your feedback. Sauvignon Blanc is grassy and citrusy, with crisper acidity generally speaking, while Chardonnay is rounder, smoother and with subtler flavor profile. Hope this helps :)
There is a South African SB from Springfield called Life from Stone. It's the flintiest SB I have ever tasted - find it and try it. Amazing!
Excellent Fiona, tx for the info, would love to try 🙏😊♥️🥂
Thanks for sharing this great wine nindustry information ! Super Big Like 💖👍🌺✅ 👍1
Bonjour Julien ca va ? hope is well. I am usually a red wine drinker usually pinot noir. I also have a sweet pallet and prefer sweet wines . Is chardonnay a good step for white wine beginners. Thank you
Yes, Chardonnay is a very interesting grape that can have many expressions depending on the region. Glad you enjoyed the content :) Cheers!
@@UA-camJulien Thank you Julien . Im very thankful . Thanks for acknowledging me
I just can't do Sauv. As soon as I smell it I start getting a headache.
I was originally a Reisling drinker. First time i tried a Chablis I did not like it In fact i STILL don't like the stuff, thinking it only fit for mixing with pinot for making champagne. Sauvignon blanch, i'm getting to like more and more Preferring the Loire . At the end of the day? Reisling is STILL my favourite.
Glad to hear you're exploring the wine world John, to find you favorite styles. We all have different tastes, but there at least a wine that suits every one of us. Sauv blanc can be fascinating. Enjoy 😊🥂👍
May I know what wine glasses you were using in the video?
I can't tell the brand of this glass, but it looks like a red wine glass. I don't know for sure. I use Riedel glasses.
Just subscribed , !
Welcome Albert 😊 and tx for the support 🙏
What does it mean when it contains sulfides.
Mix Distell’s Grapetiser with Chardonnay anyday!
One tastes fresh, sharp and vibrant. The other tastes like used axle grease?
I can only drink chardonnay if it has bubbles in it.
Australian Chardonnays?
For me, the biggest difference between these two is the variation within the varietal. Chardonnay varies from absolutely awful (e.g a cheap, over-oaked Californian) to the most unbelievable beverages you can think of (a top Chablis if you like it dry, or an aged Puligny-Montrachet), while Sauvignon Blanc is a very safe wine: always at least pleasant, and almost always at best very nice. The worst SB are far better than the worst Chardonnay, but the best SB are very far from the best Chardonnay.
Sauv any time over char.
Cheers Alex 🥂
हेलो dosydaruu
background music is sooooo annoying 😢
The difference is the grape 🤔🤷🏻
Bravo 👏
Guess what, they're different grapes. Might as well compare a steak to a pork chop.
Hi Clyde, euh! They're the same species!? So of course you can compare them. If you're learning how to cook, you'd compare pork with beef obviously, not sure you you're saying!?
