I am also a retired carpenter- mechanic. I always planned for my retirement . I wanted to do small things like trellises, planter boxes. I made up a sign - chain saw sharpening, lawnmower blade sharpening. I am now busier than I was before retirement. HA HA HA! Yesterday I sharpened 30 chains and 5 lawnmower blades, Helped my wife install garden boxes - that I made and went to play music with my new found friends. I think I need a nap. All the best Ken on your retirement! Don't sit down and relax too much - It will come back and bite you. Keep busy and enjoy yourself. Greetings from Perth Ontario Canada!
Could you put together a build playlist on this channel covering land preparation, then to plumbing and electrical. Then to Concrete. UA-cam videos of your work. But this one is for the DIY PROJECT. I know I’ve been watching all your videos and grateful for your explanations of how and why. A history of Ken’s project. Thanks again for sharing.
I wish the price of shipping to the UK wasn't as expensive as it is, otherwise I would snap up the small power pack, to use on my caravan, really looking forward to watching the new build evolve, all the best
You may want to consider a lid for the water barrels so bugs like mosquitos don’t breed in them . Obviously with a hole in them to allow water to come in from the gutters.
Hey Ken! Love hearing the good news and very excited to hear about your new project. Just a suggestion for your tiny house; Because your trailer walls aren't very high, why not just span entirely over the rails with 2×4's and hollow box frame to your skids/trailer floor underneath? This would be a much stronger assembly, plus provide a great storage and/or mechanical space under the floor as well as maximize the main interiors actual floor area. It would only raise the door a step or two. Or option 2 ; Put some temporary 6×6's, 8×8's or rail road ties under your ski's, which you could also upsize to 4x6's to gain height.
Yay, rain barrel is full and they are on the high roast! I'm watching the Princess Diaries for the first time to learn about your bird names Ken! Wow, trailer, power trowel, and power screed are sold! Wow, final sweep of the trailer. I'm sure it's all a little bittersweet! New project! Yum, your own home grown celery! Cool, tiny house/man cave/she shed! That sounds so fun! Wow, $3K to $3.2K build on the trailer. I like that trike! I'm way too far away to buy anything. I hope your viewers buy it all up quickly! Thanks for showing us the plans! Even a shower! Make some money for building it Ken! It's going to be so cool to watch this build! thanks for this video Ken!
Hey Ken, instead of the added complexity to the flooring/wall sections to fit the trailer, why not build a platform on the trailer to clear the rails? It would end the problem, be reusable, and add floor space. I had an enclosed car hauler like yours years ago for a drag car. The problem with them was you couldn't open the door once inside because of the trailer wheel boxes. The solution everyone used was removable door......it was a pain in the $%#$%#^$#$%. It dawned me one day if I placed a couple of 2x8's on the floor, it would lift the car the three inches needed to clear the wheel boxes.
A steel L angle iron skelton frame with the wood structure would insure a well built unit that would last a long time, perhaps pulling it off the trailer for an intended anchor cement lock down for emergency shelter/work shop, just an idea is all.😊
Wow. This is very exciting news (tiny house/mancave/sheshed). I'll be super engrossed in the process. Congratulations on selling the tools and other items. Think of it as helping others realize their dreams with items you used to achieve yours. Can't wait to see the new project take off. God bless
Wow Ken, there was more action in that video than an original Batman and Robin episode😁. I like the “Let’s Make A Deal” comment. You would make a good Monty Hall. Will you choose Ken’s trailer or a solar generator, but little do they know there is a goat waiting inside the trailer door😆😂. Love your energy Ken and can’t wait for the build!!
Ken miss your videos on building. I was wondering if you would consider doing videos on how to specifically build walls, roofs with detail which nails, how to use tools, installing a window, everything in section per video and focusing on the details. I think you would get many views.. I kind of feel sad you are mvoing on loved all your videos. Emotional video Ken. Wishing you the best always.
Ken, I like the man cave project. I just think you're going to regret building it on that utility trailer. Seems like some compromises due to trailer and its sidewalls. I'm sure we will enjoy seeing the build, and maybe it's too late to trade the utility trailer up to a deck over wheel trailer. Just thinking out loud. Have fun!! Will look forward to seeing the project evolve!! Thanks for all your content.
Since you're building a mobile tiny house/cabin...why not keep your power station so you won't need to depend on regular power sources. And if you decide to ever sell your man cave, extra perk! Thinking ya'll may go out for a weekend of fishing etc.
. . . getting rid of stuff. WOW ! Most of your UA-camrs know exactly how it feels. . . . You are handling it well and fair. Thank you for sharing your day. We look forward to another successful project. 😊
I guess this tells me I've spent too much time watching UA-cam videos, when I have outlasted a channel I loved to watch. Also, you should come up with some kind of metal connector for those cantilevers on the trailer house. The plywood will not likely hold, especially when you transport it.
Ken, I’m a little behind,on your videos. I have to say I felt a little emotional as well with the sale of your trailer. I love watching how you’re keeping busy. Looking forward to watching this tiny house build!!
Good Morning Ken! i Love watching your videos. Congrats on your retirement. i look forward to watching you build the tiny home. GOD' Bless your whole family. Amen :)

Enjoy your retirement/gear change, Well deserved... All of your video's are very good, I retired 2 yrs. ago, the only downside that I have noticed is that being more around the house all day is that it seems like I have less time for anything, So I find myself making task list more often to get stuff done here and looking back now I don't see how I was ever able to work all day for all them years and manage everything there is to do at home with shop and land etc.
It is sad to part with items we've had and used for years, but in no time, you won't be missing them. I have what appears to be the exact same car hauler, (mine is a Lark) except that mine is a 20 footer, and it's white. I planned on selling it soon, but now, thanks to this video, I may convert it to a mobile cabin, to move around my property as I see fit. Down by the lake, up near the pond, out in a field, buried in the woods... Not to be used as a B&B, but for when family and friends visit. They can pick the location. You certainly have me thinking about my trailer situation! 😂 I am REALLY looking forward to your Tiny House build!
Hi Ken from another Ken but I'm from Britain, sorry to hear that you have retired but very glad to hear that you're still going to be on UA-cam with your projects. I see that you've been busy with them too. We retirees have to have something to do that will keep our noggin going to keep us busy. Although I'm disabled and can't do what I'm used to. I can still draw pictures and keep busy doing that, just energetic enough for me.
Good Luck Ken on your Retirement , I had a few years to get used to not going for Crew Changes every 6 weeks but finally got though it, do not miss the rough weather but I do get night mares from time to time, Moved to Thailand so its a nice change . No boats to look at. Cheers Ken
I’m glad you’re staying busy, using your skill to take you through the future. It is emotional to see the items leave that supported your life. But life does go on and you will do well
Glad to see you have a new project and happy with retirement I downsize a couple years ago and it’s hard to get rid of things that you have used for years take care and I’ll be watching the new project
Oh my gosh. I was listening to the video as I was doing something else. I heard you talk about the dog wanting to get into the pen to "talk" to the chickens and when I looked over next it was minute 2:15 and the dog was wrestling with its toy. I thought it had gotten a chicken! LOL

I’m sure this is hard. You have worked hard all of your life but now is the time to enjoy doing what you want to do today. Thanks for all you videos. Do you ever watch Hammy and Olivia videos. They are two Corgis that have awesome stories.
Hi Ken. I really enjoyed this video! You are doing really well with presentation. Also enjoy being part of your ideas as you transition to retirement. With that said, I think you could transition video subject matter to focus on a Life in the day of a retired carpenter. That audience is huge with the most baby boomers turning 65 this year than ever before. Have a great day. Can’t wait to see the tiny house being built. Wish I was closer than to you Pennsylvania.
It looks like you could put some 2x6s up from just next to the door, to the top plate of the studs on the diagonal. That would take most of the roof load off the little cut-in just above the trailer rails. Using some thick siding on the front and back would help, too. Maybe at the installation site, put some concrete blocks under the overhang once it's location is fixed, with wedges to help hold up the side walls.
Should have used a tilt deck trailer for that build, would make it a lot easier to unload that "tiny house" project....its gonna come crashing down with a bang with that regular deck LOL.
Ken , we can see your keeping busy in your retirement, and thats good. But this building a building on a trailer, I have to ask why? Building the sidewalls as you plan are going to be difficult to make strong to endure the weight and stress on them. Why not build it as you would normaly and make it fit between the rails on the trailer? Or get a flatbed trailer? Also I would use ( 4 ) 4 x 4 runners and cut a 1" x 45 degree chamfer on the bottom edges on both ends. Also drill a 1 1/2" dia hole in each one about 8" back from each end. Then you can put a steel bar thru them and hook a cahin on it to pull the building on and off the trailer and to the final location. Thats the way I built several LARGE shipping boxes for a local business and it worked great. Good luck on this project.
Keep up with your being busy and enjoy your retirement. I know what you’re going through somewhat. I retired from a lg corporate fiber industry. It took me a few years to realize that I don’t have to work 60-70 hours a week anymore Lol.
hhahahaha thats all part of working into your retirement , it took me about 4 years to get past the working and then gettiing used to traveling in the RV, luck ken
Ken more little is fine with us. Glad you are selling stuff and making room. I am wondering why you are hanging on to so many Dewalt tools. How many of each do you need now that you are in retirement? Maybe a trade school could use a donation?
Ken, consider how one can level this unit once it’s removed from the trailer. That could present a problem if not considered during construction. Just a thought……
@@billstev100 Watch a few videos on shed deliveries and you will see how easy it is to level one of these. If you know where the final resting spot is, you can prep the location with cement blocks ahead of time.
Getting a chuckle out of this. You're having a lot better luck selling your stuff than. A lot of decluttering going on. Major lifestyle transitions. Hard in some respects but, great in others. You're doing great.
@@kenskarpentry I meant to say get a long TILT train. Then you can roll it right on some three or four inch cpvc pipes. This way you can roll it into tight spaces when needed. Works great.
I think u should sell the landscape trailer as well and look into a deck over trailer, that way you wouldn't have to shorten the floor on the base then bump it back out,and use all those gussets ,they're all weak points
Hello friend, good evening, I love you very much because of the great talent that your age has. I have a question. I am building a cabin in Tennessee and the roof is made of metal and I put the panel mounting on the right side. I wanted you to please measure if it can work and I am still worried. and thanks

15:52 I would look at metal fixing plates for a least some of those Unkle Ken .
Thanks to these comments. I have changed my mind, and I am going to build on top of the rails.
If you got like a 24 tilt trailer it would dump much better and you could build it a bit bigger and give you more options
I’ll see how this one does and look into that. Thanks
@@kenskarpentry I meant to say get a long TILT train. Then you can roll it right on some three or four inch cpvc pipes. This way you can roll it into tight spaces when needed. Works great.
I think u should sell the landscape trailer as well and look into a deck over trailer, that way you wouldn't have to shorten the floor on the base then bump it back out,and use all those gussets ,they're all weak points
elsewhere in the comments Ken said he's trying to keep the total height down, and he's already pushing 10 feet with a pitched roof.
I agree. I’m going to build on top of the rails
I just changed my mind and decided to build on top of the rails
The items that you have sold will be happily used by whoever has purchased them.
Yes definitely
Stay active my friend. 👍🎅🏻
Thanks, you too!
good to see you back in action again will the old team be making guest appearances hope so will see
Thanks nothing planned at this point
Is there a reason you can't build it on top of the side rails and skip the bottom bump outs?
I considered that but that 12” gets me taller than I want for over the road and still get decent wall height
I wonder, did you ever consider a pop out on one side?
I have thought about that but maybe not with this one
Nice
Thanks

Hello friend, good evening, I love you very much because of the great talent that your age has. I have a question. I am building a cabin in Tennessee and the roof is made of metal and I put the panel mounting on the right side. I wanted you to please measure if it can work and I am still worried. and thanks
Sorry not sure
How do you calculate weight out of curiosity? Is there a chart or formula.
I look online at what each item typically weighs and then add it up
Hi Ken, just back to the channel after some time away so I may have missed some things. Are you retiring? I see you selling equpiment and doing other projects at your house there.
A few months ago I did a video talking about the next chapter in my life. No more employees basically working around the shop.
@@kenskarpentry well, good for you. I'll see if I can find the video.
😅👍👍👍🪚🔨🪟
im building the ladder lift where do you get the bearings and what size are they?
Cool. I think they were 5/16”. I think big box stores might have them
