Love that you did a video on this! Everyone needs to clean their iron...often! I showed the ladies at one of our retreats how to properly clean their irons. I also gave them a demo about ironing black fabric and then ironing white fabric. They were amazed that the dye would stick to the iron and carry over to the white. It does! (depends on the quality of the fabrics also) I always clean my iron before ironing white or very light fabrics. Not all dyes will carry but I want to be sure not to get it on my white fabrics. Also thank you for telling everyone that you have to clean the sides of the iron plate too. A lot of people forget that. I appreciate your videos SEW much! Thank you for bringing us another great product to try. I am awful at getting glue on mine. I try to remember to put down a piece of parchment paper first before I press if I need to get glue to dry!
I use toothpaste. I use a vet towel, put a fair amount of toothpaste on it and use it on my Oliso Iron, hottest settings. Works a treat and gets everything off and all nice and shiny. I have a dry towel on my pressing mat and then use the cleaned iron and iron over the dry towel and all is good and like new and a nice bonus is, it smells nice.
Thanks for confirming my suspicion about why my iron was getting so dirty; I didn't know that I should let the starch alternative dry. Much appreciated Laura.
Very helpful. Thank you! I am definitely one of those who are excited to start or continue a project and the glue is not quite dry sewers. *Looks over at iron* Yep, it sure is in need of a clean!
Thanks for this, very helpful. I’m in Australia so I’ll have to see if I can find a similar cleaner. But great to see how you do it, and great idea about the mascara wands. I bought some for cleaning my sewing machine after watching another of your tutorials, really good to know I can use them for the iron as well. Thanks and God bless. 🌻
Thanks! What’s the ratio of vinegar to water? And how long do you let it sit in the iron? Also how many times do you rinse it to get the vinegar out? Thanks Again!🥰
Hi Laura, I have the newest ceramic sole plate Oliso iron. Love, love it as it stays so clean! However, I have discovered that compared to my older Oliso which lasted many years, but finally quit heating, I discovered I can't permanently retract the "lift option" of the newest Oliso, so therefore I can't use my Binding Eaze silicone ironing mat for making binding . I just purchased that mat. Disappointing. Do you know why the newest Oliso does not have the retract off/on feature, or have you noticed? Thanks
I did Laura. Oliso suggested I hold the iron which retracts the feet, and unplug it while holding, then use it to press my binding with the silicone Binding Eaze mat. Of course that is not a very good solution as within minutes the iron starts cooling if you are doing yards of binding strips. Oliso says they will reconsider putting back the switch in their future models of irons.
I was raised by my Grama and Mom who were avid sewers, and we always used salt on wax paper. Oh by the way I’m 77yo and an avid sewer and quilter.

I use the mascara wands to clean my sewing machine too. 😊

Thank you for the tutorial. I never knew to clean it or even how to. This will save a lot of fabric going forward.
Great information, thank you.
Thanks for the helpful demonstration
I own this cleaning product, but was too scared to use it. Thanks for the video! I will give my iron a good clean now!
Thanks again for another great tutorial, sometimes I thought I was the culprit in making my iron so dirty. It’s the starch ( light bulb moment) ,
Thank you, so much!

Thanks for this video. This is very helpful information.💕
Helpful information, will be ordering the iron cleaner for sure.
I live in Australia where would I buy that product or a similar one thank you
Thanks.
where can we get this?
I am curious...what differences do you notice between the steel plate and ceramic plate. Do you have a preference?
I think I am leaning toward the ceramic plate...it just seems to stay cleaner longer.
What about cleaning out all the hard water gunk from inside the irons?
Vinegar works wonders. We are on well water. I use vinegar and water to descale my iron and my coffee maker.

I would reach out to them and ask :) It is a good question

@@AngiesQuilting well that's good to know. But I do like the old feature of turning the feet on and off.
