- Paris, FRANCE - 1989 World Figure Skating Championships, Men's Free Skate - First, a review of the Men's Original Program, followed by the Free Skate of Kurt Browning of Canada. He won this portion and ended up winning the Gold Medal as well.
Wonderful program. Besides the jumps, you will notice that he skates to the music. So many skaters just use the music as background music.
Wise to pick this music for a World's in France. Another insane skate. Triple-triple at the end. Respectable quad. 3 Axel. More controlled and polished than the program the year before. The other men in this event must have been besides themselves wondering how on earth you could beat this epic performance.
This guy flys on the triple axel. I loved it.
The height on his jumps....nothing can compare to that.

Thank you for uploading! I remember this times, Kurt was my favorite skater! I've collected Autographs from him and enjoyed his performances. Kurt was 4 times World champion and in 1989 it was the first time. Thank you! 💗
Best men’s figure skater ever. Skill and artistry combined. Some of the Russians have been good. But, for me, he is the best. Speaking as a (ok) skater.
Michael Wright I would say Christopher Bowman was far more naturally talented. But Kurt certainly worked harder.
He had the scariest technique on the flip jump. Like, really scary.
Besides the toe loop, the guy had real dicey technique on toe jumps. Avoided the Lutz like the plague and when he missed the Flip, he missed it BAD. This Flip looked bizarre with a such a short toe pick but even with a straight entrance, it was cringey.
Edge jumps, he was typically unmatched. The height of his 3A was amazing.
@@Juice_Lover123 Right, his picking technique was pretty bad, always rolled the picking blade over sideways, like the Eteri girls do now. I can't believe he and his team never addressed this.
Yep, The flip and Lutz jumps were his "bete noire" for sure. Just like the Salchow was for Kristi Yamaguchi.
Kurt reminds me of Gene Kelly. Athletic and graceful. Always a favorite with his “out of the box” skating.
he still had the mood to do the spiral and after the spiral 2 crosscuts and boom triple axel thrown in ....
Scott Hamilton did a flip jump that scared people. He earned ALL those gold medals. Kurt reminds me of Scott. ⛸️🏴♥️

Just genius. Not just technically, I agree with other commentators on the quad. He got there. Didn’t nail it but got there. But I’m sorry, those artistic marks are rubbish. Browning is a dancer of the highest quality who just happened to wear ice skates. And I’ve seen Sylvie Guiallme (spelling?) dance in person.

Российский комментатор?) Прикольно, но я б скорей Такахаши заподозрила в родстве с Браунингом. Хотя, если сказал после короткой программы, то да. Та короткая Ханю очень в стиле Курта) Кстати, возможно неслучайно, Браунинг работал с Ханю как хореограф. Курт ставил в 2012г показательный номер Ханю Hello I love you под ремикс Doors. Вот там ОЧЕНЬ виден почерк Курта. И его виниловые штаны)) Стиль того показательного похож на стиль короткой с Сочи. Так что, в чем-то комментатор прав
The quad didnt look 2 footed to me.
roger leblond it wasn't. He was given credit for landing it cleanly at this worlds.

Fadeyev had won the 1989 European Championships with a brilliant free skate, but at the World's he skated poorly and did not make the podium. Consequently, the Russian Federation no longer supported him and he retired as an amateur skater.
