He was such a free spirit on the ice. Loved his style. Such a shame he never got an Olympic gold.

Fabulous! I always loved this program most of all. Great music, interesting choreography, speed & flow, and I loved that Triple Sal/Triple Loop. Just a great skate.

Watching this in 2022, things sure have changed in Odessa! Now independent from Russia. This is the year that the USSR fell. The Iron Curtain was no more. Only Russia was left. Now Odessa, along with the rest of Ukraine, is full of bombed out buildings. I wonder what Victor thought of all that.
To this day, Kurt Browning is still a national treasure here in Canada!

he had three triple toe loops in this program. how did the triple flip -triple toe count?

    • @barkingtree88
      @barkingtree88 3 роки тому +5

Back then if a triple was on the second half of a combination, it counted as its own element, as triple-triples were more rare to see; therefore it was still within the rule.

What music is this? I find it hypnotic. Never heard of it before. It almost sounds nautical/sea-like.

It's "The Sons of Italy" by Henry Mancini. Here's a link to it: ua-cam.com/video/LFtQT9FTnlA/v-deo.html

I've never liked him. He's like Dana Carveys effiminate heterosexual character. The gayest straight guy out there.

I agree that the music selection was not up to par for Browning, but this was an amazing program! His technical abilities and artistic talents were both at their peaks here. He was literally unbeatable.

In 1990 you started to wonder if he was losing his edge. He knew Stojko was getting noticed as a master technician and Kurt wasn't winning everything anymore and starting to show inconsistency. And then he comes out and does this performance. Scott Hamilton was right when he said Kurt is a "big game skater." I thought the 1992 Olympics was a lock for him.

I miss the Kurt Browning mullet

The only thing I will criticize here is he never got low on his sit spin. However, he was pushing the boundaries technically with putting the loop on the back end of those 3/3 combos.

I liked it. I think it suited his personality well and built toward the end to a glorious finish. Until the end of the 91 season he skated to "light," perky music.

The program was amazing. A lot of his elements, split jumps, etc you dont see today. I wonder how her would do with this program at worlds today. Medal?

I don't think there was a limit on combination jumps attempted pre-IJS. The three triple toes should have been in violation of the Zayak rule, though, as I think that went into place in 1983?

Tony Wheeler...I was thinking the exact same thing. There should have been a major deduction. But I still love me some Kurt talent.

  • @officeaddict33

Maybe the judges were as dumbfounded at his performance as we the spectators were ....lol. Maybe they didn't notice all the triple toes.

I hate to be a Debbie Downer for this pretty stupendous performance, but didn't he violate the Zayak Rule not once, but twice?
    1) 3 triple toe loops (axel combo, bailed quad attempt, flip combo)
    2) 4 jump combos (axel/toe, flip/toe, axel/loop, salchow/loop)
Considering the strength of Petrenko's program, maybe the judges should've been more "proper" in giving deductions to Browning, therefore making the ordinals waaaaaay closer...?

Don't think Zayak rule as it is now existed back then.

He broke a couple rules here. 3 triple toes and 4 jump combinations.
    Here’s his program.......
    Triple axel - triple toe
    Triple toe
    Triple flip - triple toe
    Triple axel - double loop
    Triple Salchow - triple loop
    Double axel
    Double axel

I don't think there was a limit on the number of jump combinations back then, but you're right about the three triple toes!

I believe that Brownings program had 2 triple axles and 1 double axle.

Terrible music choice just like 1990 and 1989, ick. The jumping was fantastic. The second axel combo was really nice.
