I love this song, it isn't just a representation of a man wishing to die from pain or agony I dare say it is a reflection on metal at essence. The man accepts his fate and believes what ever choice he makes is the right one no matter the out come, weather it be pain misery or even death. He will push on and know to the grave he is right, it's so beautifully done i must give a gracious round of applause to Metallica.
