That POS vent is working!
Just helped me get the heat back on tonight with a real feel of 13. Thanks, guy!
signs of a experience/great mechanic, knowing options and how to proceed forward...txs for sharing
Just installed a new hot water heater. My old one exploded out of the top. Like a fountain.. from the exhaust hole. A real leaker... Lucky I walked down to the basement to switch the laundry probably less than a minute after it exploded. A dozen towels cleaned up the mess... Lucky it didn't happen at night while we were asleep. Definitely getting a water alarm after that happened.
I have that same heater...I just changed from the large old style expansion tank to the new bladder style. used one of you old video's to help me. If my heater goes...I'm going to hate to get a new one because nothing today last long. thanks for your video's ...i wish you where in NJ. you would be my plumber.
Good job Steve.
PB blaster she needs some lube.she is just a little dry. As my dad said don't hit a dry hole.
I winced and chuckled at that. 😖😂
I stumbled on you recently on UA-cam and been enjoying your videos on my TV.
Thanks have the exact same boiler - The Thermocouple had me going . Had to drill it out to get it closer.
You don't have rocket science there, you have rust science.
Hey Steve. Thanks for the great vids. I sent you a box of those "pig blankets " that absorb oil from your last vid. They're arriving Friday. Enjoy.
Pull a single wire out of your wire brush. It fits the orifice in the pilot perfectly. Just push it in and your clean.
Hi Steve. I have a Utica similar but with 4 tubes. I had to order a new pilot assembly because I destroyed the old one trying to change the thermocouple. Seems like the heat in that area seizes up threads. Got a good pilot flame now, 30 years and still running.
She's ah cruussty onnneee Mr. Grinch.
Good Theory on the calculating the size of the piping . You need to teach from the old school and show some of these wannabe plumbers how to pour a horizontal lead joint on some cast iron piping and show how to use a joint runner and the tech tips when doing this type work. Do you do plumbing drawings ?
I remain convinced that running a dehumidifier in an old basement saves money in the long run because of the corrosion it prevents.
And mold
I got 2 after the 1st summer in this house realizing how rusty some tools got. I keep the dehumidifiers off Nov-April but I must of saved my boiler and air handler from rust.
Not to mention guns as well as other tools (guns are tools). No way I could subject them to spring and summer basement humidity. Anyway, my steam boiler stays nice and dry during its off season. When that runs everything is warm and dry.
I keep one running year around. Set it at 65% some would say that's to high and I should set it lower. 65% is much better than nothing.. seems to keep the basement smell away and also keep my electric bill from being stupid. I also have a vent in the basement that keeps the air moving.
Steve, I can see why you would want to do an attic A/C unit changeout in November instead of August! Heat exhaustion.
Is that foil and fleece under the burners essential? I pulled it and dumped the rust and lost most of the fleece.
Top
Sucks that job was on a Saturday and after the attic job but this job was definitely for a Pro. Nice work
A thermal couple and pilot adjustment?
@@wilmersilmer3864 if it was that easy
Hey Steve, stay warm !! Keep the vids coming!!
I have the same boiler and I cannot find any tube Burners. Any ideas?
Stevie: attempting to blowout pilot
Me: c’mon Stevie get it in tha hole!
That one is toasted!
The pilot light is lit, but does not kick on. I checked thermostat wire and still nothing.
What kind of truck is that he drives. Looks pretty large almost like a tractor trailer cab only in the form of a very large van like an RV or something. Mostly large vans like that have overhead windshield wipers
welcome to the Ship show momma
Wimpy is the new word of the Day for Monday?
Steve saved the day again! Excellent work my man.
I have a 62 error on Utica boiler. What does that mean ?
Why keep it simple when it can be complex. That heat activated damper was nuts.
Those vent dampers are notorious, but they don't fail it's bi-metal they were all over philthydelphia!
You should carry a couple different pilot assembles so you can just pop um in.
Thanks again for the videos.
🥃🥃🍺🍺🍺🎯🏌🏻♀️
Stay safe.
Retired (werk'n)keyboard super tech. Wear your safety glasses!
An "E" Violin String works pretty good to clean gas nozzles.
That damper is scary. I say like you, get that out of there. A new boiler properly installed is needed.
Steve you really had to work that one, Great Job 👍
Truly great work on the old unit.
It's got to be if he carries parts for well pumps, HVAC parts, boiler parts, you name it. A warehouse on wheels!
Why do they use pilot lights instead of electronic ignition?
Because it's an old system.
Why do you wear gloves? I can never figure it out. 😀
Hey Steve and Miss Molly! Workin’ again y’all. 👍👍. it’s a crusty one Mr. Grinch
? Battery vacuum. Battery Dremel. Welder's jet files. I always pull burner knives first.
those draft dampers are ilegal in some places!
You might try using a meter on the output of the pilot before you break things.
I used to carry a safety pin for cleaning pilot orifice, take the burner apart, clean it, and be done. If ya come across one of those dampers in the flue pipe, take it out !
When you're in doubt drill it out.
most your jobs in New Bedford Steve? big Portuguese community i hear
In Fall River too.
He's probably got enough stuff in that thing to fill a 2 car garage , Lol.
That vent is dangerous no safety mechanism to interrupt power to the gas valve in case it fails to open. It’ll just dump exhaust gasses and co right into the house
The old how ya doing MAMA!!!
Hope he has a CO detector in the area
Steve my man
No prom queen.
Dont you just hate when something just gotta be a pain in the ass.......socket and ratchet may have been the ticket
It ain’t rocket science momma. But sometime you gotta have a rocket 🚀
Wet gas is the worst… 🤣
Yo mama!
Being from the South, you folks up there in casual talk act like your going to go to fist to cuff. LOL like it though. Adds to the entertainment.
Yes, this is just one of the reasons we are called "Massholes" we are kind of crass I guess. It gets cold up here, no time for gentries, say what ya gotta say fast or your lips and teeth will freeze. LOL
But we do have our good points. My ex Boyfriend was from washington DC, he told me he got stuck on a highway out there an hundreds of people drove by and no one helped him. No one even enquired to what his problem was. He had to walk off the next exit to find a phone to call for professional help.
Then he mentioned when his car broke down here in Mass, within minutes some one stopped by and helped him get going again. A lot of times we get the reputation that we are not open, friendly people, we seem standoffish. Yeah, that can be a factor, but once the ice is broken things are fine.
My ex also remarked us New Englanders smoke and drink coffee a lot! I told him, "Hey, it gets cold here. You gotta do something to keep you going." I dont do either though, but there are plenty who do both or just one or the other.
Should have pressed the fitting for that thermocouple into the brass housing.
Hello Steve!
those bimetallic passive flu dampers used to be hot shit sold by all the hvac guys back in the mid eighties. some have the solid piece and others
had the fingers of metal arranged in a circle.
we call that, gas fired circulated hot water, after all the water should never actually boil. we call that a steam boiler
Disconnect the pilot line at gas valve and blow air through that end, cleans oriface and all. That damper is illegal and scary. Your the last man working on it don’t leave yourself exposed for liability.
How the hell is that vent damper even legal?
It’s not. If someone gets sick or worse he’s responsible. Last man there and code violation.
Might have a tiny leak the cast when the boilers hot rusting that shit out. Moisture in the gas. More likely just lack of having it serviced.
Hey Steve i love you're you tube channel. I heard about this guy "mikey pipes". Then one of his programs came up to watch. I clicked on it............then clicked off before he even got to the job. Keep up the great work bud!
The little dog barely does have a place to sit.
I hate those cheap pop metal piece of crap thermocouples I usually take a torch heat it up until it melts hit it with a little nitrogen it blows it right out of there and then you can thread the new good Honeywell ones in
Pot metal
Help that cat.
My thermostat stopped working and I saw online I need a thermocouple. I need you to give me a price for a new thermocouple over the phone. I saw online they are only $15 on Amazon... You are ripping me off charging me $140 to replace a $20 part!! This is the shit homeowners don't realize. I rusted nut turns into a broken drill bit and a 10 minute job turns into a shit show.
People learned to have their burners serviced each year without fail, guys like Steve wouldn't have to walk into these shit shows
Steve, like everyone running a successful business, has fuel, insurance and inventory to cover.. I would gladly pay $140 to make my furnace function
Its simple, keep the shit serviced and clean and you wont have this issue.
I don’t like that damper arrangement, that boiler needs to go.
Borderline crap !
