    Wanted to share experience I had with my gas boiler last year. I noticed when the electronic spark lighter came on it could go for 30 seconds sometimes before actually igniting the gas, used to take about 3 seconds. I cleaned it, better for a little while, but soon enough back to 30 seconds to light. I replaced it, better for a while but again after a while seemed to be heading back tp the 30 second lighting zone. The gas valve was a Honeywell, furnace was a Slant Fin which may be 40 years old. I found the gas valve on line, it was called an off brand but was actually a Honeywell (which I was able to figure out prior to purchase). The part cost me about $110 with shipping. If I had purchased locally, $400. I could have installed it myself, but I have a guy who charges $60 an hour for work and I prepared it all for him and worked with him, and took under 1 hour. Cause it was a first time and dealing with gas boiler, felt better having someone else do it. He also said there is a valve which may have needed lubrication, I did take the old one apart later, which was not easy, and I probably could have tried doing this first but was tired of screwing with it. If you try this it's a special lubricant that's need. The main point of my story is actually about how much I saved buying the replacement gas valve on line. It's been over a year now and it's worked just fine.

    • @davidv7275
      @davidv7275 3 роки тому

      @@joep4143 Sorry to have offended your sensibilities with telling people how they can save considerable money on parts, especially the replacement parts. To your point yes it's gas and if you are worried hire someone like I did, but buy your own parts (if they will let you do this). I have done a couple of other projects with gas run appliances by myself over the years and they all worked for me,

    • @davidv7275
      @davidv7275 3 роки тому

      @@joep4143 My part has a warranty, but I would have to pay for labor. I saved about $300 doing what I did and it worked. I am having my car repaired this weekend. Taking the needed parts, saved about $400, but yes will not get the warranty coverage. And don't get me started on what I think of any medical cost these days, I also saved $30 this week on plumbing supplies I installed buying on line. This may not be for all, I do tons of research often, I am mechanically adept, and unusually frugal. Yes providing your own parts may limit labor warranty coverage, Never actually mattered in my case of doing this over the years, everything worked fine. I took the risk and got the reward of significant savings.
