I'll just sum it up in this comment rather than a random reply. Sentry busters CAN melee, they're just a reskinned demo holding a Caber. It is set to taunt once it reaches a sentry and explode, you can hear the quote in some cases, it does not laugh and the laugh explode exploit was since it taunted so it triggers the explosion. (They were given immunity to the laughs later on.) Since the round was lost, it overriden the Sentry Buster's original behaviour to blow up a sentry into the standard seek and destroy all Bots do hence the melee. Sentry Busters do try and melee but often at dispencers. (Not to be confused with running them over due to being a giant.) And though based on a comment thread, no not all robots stay near bomb or seek and destroy if it's being held, it depends on their behaviour set. "Mobbers" will seek and attack players if bomb is being held. If it's not a mobber or a push and is not a squad member of bomb carrier it will stay in range of it, If it's a Push ai then it will go to the bomb hatch if it's being carried. Squad members will stick with their squad and often have a "Leader" (First spawned) which will be the one to hold the bomb if it's start of wave. If round is lost, all is overriden to seek and destroy as that's default TF2 Bot Behaviour. Squads are the "group" of bots spawned. I.E 6 Scouts of the same type are a squad. A giant heavy with a Uber Med and Q-Fix Med are a different squad, but may appear along with the scouts in a wave.
Also in rare circumstances the cosmetic model for the sentry buster might screw up, or the mission maker might give them custom cosmetics, so you can see regular demobots with the sentry buster model or sentry busters that have demo cosmetics, sometimes resulting in them having floating arms.
they dont lose the caber explosion, they change behavior from destroy/target sentrys to seek and kill, eg. if the bomb is already take by any bot, all other bots will change your behavior to seek and kill, aka, go after any enemeis

Remember Sentry busters are just giant caber demos that explodes when they do the laughing animation. Yes sentry busters literally laughs at sentry before detonating. Theres an old strat where holiday punch Heavies can force a sentry buster to detonate by forcing them to do the laughing animation.

It's not a laughing animation. The Holiday Punch simply forced busters to perform a taunt, which is what triggers the self-destruction.
He got fed up with all the Ubersaw hits, buff banner filling, rage meter cheesing and chose violence
