Seriously, people. Why are you bashing the car? It's a perfectly fine vehicle for a small family. It's cheap to run and insure, and gets decent gas mileage. Someone with a mortgage can surely appreciate that. 0 to 60 acceleration doesn't matter in real life urban driving.
John R Finally two people who are not concern about the power. For me it is a simple car. I am a college student and the car size and affordability is great. I do not need all that extra tech and power .
I can tell you, maybe the specific 0-60 doesn't matter, but when I was car shopping 2 years ago, the Sentra was one of the first ones I drove, it is slow of the line, trying to make a pass is even dangerous and the 1.8+CVT combo makes it really unresponsive so it is difficult to take a spot in traffic (only the cruze was worse than the sentra). It is not a bad car, it is a mediocre car, for the price there are much better things out there. In the end it is a car for people that care not about driving and would much preffer to be driven around but aren't rich enough for that (I ended up with a Mazda3 2.5, much faster and responsive, also not as roomy).
I had this as a rental and I thought for the money it was a great car I've definitely driven much worse cars that cost much more. Not to mention you could get this car for very very cheap
I had a 2014 Sentra as a rental and I really liked it with a couple of exceptions. The seat bottom was convex. Felt like I was sitting on a hump. Horribly uncomfortable. My other gripe was the raspy, gravely sounding engine. Otherwise, it was pleasant to drive, quiet, and crazy roomy for its size. If Nissan offered a 10y/100k mile warranty like some of their competitors to stave worries of poor reliability and fixed the problems mentioned, I'd definitely consider one. It definitely prioritizes fuel economy over power and I'm ok with that.
I had one as a rental and really enjoyed it! I liked the D-Shift Logic Nissan introduced to the CVT's not too long ago; it works great and its consistent unlike the competition. I never really heard the engine and never really had a reason to push the car hard. It did great on the highway and on hills of PA. I agree! I'd like extended coverage for the CVT because it STILL seems Nissan hasn't sorted out the CVT reliability even though they were the first to introduce them in mass production and had the lead in R&D of them.
Its software that allows the CVT to mimic shift "steps" like a conventional transmission. So it doesn't stay at 4,000 rpm like a traditional CVT would while accelerating. Instead, the RPMs drop then climb, then drop, then climb like a regular automatic. Its really convincing but its neat because while the rpms are stepped, the power flow is still smooth and constant like the regular CVT.
I'd be more willing to put up with a CVT over the 6MT if it did what a CVT was supposed to (no "steps", no creep when placed in D without throttle). I'm not interested in a Powerglide emulator.
Cars are so good today that this is considered only an average vehicle when only five to seven years ago, this would be an amazing compact car. my parents own one of these last year and I really can't say too much bad about it. It's a pretty great little car. Sure it needs a little bit more power but if you're not concerned with that, take it for a test drive and you shouldn't be disappointed.
I was expecting an as equipped price of around $18K with a starting price of $16k. You can buy a one year used full size for $22K. I don't see the compact value here. Wages in North America are flat, if not decreased over the last eight years, but auto makers insist on jacking up prices to unrealistic levels with 7 year loans. They didn't even bother to invest money in the anemic drivetrain to boot.
I have a '09 Lancer GTS for many years now. It has been very reliable and it performs well, though the interior is sub-par and the paint sucks when compared to a Corolla and Civic.
I love honda not gonna lie and i still do..but i got this car...just gonna say this car is great..spacious at the back, big trunk, nice equipped and the engine i like it a lot...so far awesome first car
Definitely not a bargain. There are 7 new car models priced under $15k, 3 at $13k or less, and Nissan's own Versa is only $12k. But the best bargains are the late model used Asian compacts. Most of these can be bought for half the price (or less) than new, have the majority of their life still ahead of them, and are cheap to run and maintain.
Stone Walled Exactly! These damn hippies assume a car with no power will always get better fuel economy. They could not be more wrong if they tried. It a car has good power, it takes less effort and strain on the engine to move it. Since that holds true, it should also take less gasoline to propel the car and less wear and tear. Plus Audi's are incredibly well built, I had a 2013 Audi TT and miss her 😞 .
I think one of the benefits is obviously this is much MUCH cheaper to buy, own, and insure than a 2017 3.0 Supercharged Audi Q5. I'm sure the demographic that buys a Sentra is absolutely cross shopping this with a 2017 3.0 Supercharged Audi Q5 and wondering "why would I buy the Sentra????"
Needs a hatchback, maybe something along the lines of the slantback "wagon" that was offered in the Datsun 210 and the first two generations of Sentra.
intrestingly the elantra has more power, is faster AND GETS BETTER GAS MILEAGE! I would have thought this smaller engine would do better in that regard. but it doesn't even do as well.
I had a 16 Elantra and no it doesn't do better than this Sentra. I rented this car for a week and I got better mpg with the Sentra. These companies rate their specs way too high. As a matter of fact Hyundai was in hot water for inflating their MPG ratings a few years back.
Jonathan A The Civic With The Base Engine Is Pretty Quick 0-60 8 Seconds Compared To The Sentra's 10 Seconds To 60.. I'm A Big Fan Of Nissan But If They Were Going To Make A Performance Model It Should've Least Had More Power The The 2007 -2012 Spec-v Model Which Had 200 Horsepower.
Jonathan A Jonathan A The 1.6 Turbo Engine Is Used In The Juke So Its Not New At All.. What I'm Saying Is For The People Who Don't Want To Buy A "Performance " Model Sentra.. The Civic Is One Of The Fastest Cars In Its Class 0-60 In 8 Seconds Isn't Slow For 158 Horsepower . What's Slow Is Having A 130hp Engine In A Car That Almost Weigh 3,000 Pounds . Nissan Needs To Update Their Engine Line Up Quick. Yeah The Turbo Sentra Has More Power But Will It Be Quicker Than The 1.5 T Civic Is The Question. Don't Get Me Started On The Nismo Model 👎🏾.
Jonathan A Most Cars In The Sentra's Class Base Model Engine Are Pushing Towards 150hp To 160 Hp Except For The Sentra And Corolla I Think.. 0-60 In 10 Seconds ??? Is That Acceptable😂. Even The Versa Gets A Slightly Better 0-60 Time And It Barely Has 100 Horsepower. Not To Mention The 2.5 Altima Gets Almost The Same As A Base Sentra But A Lot Quicker.
I would be forced to the the SR, but I still think that Mazda and Honda are killing it in this class. Nissan(- the SR) and Toyota really need a power train overhaul.
Gene Markowski you should go check their 2018 camry out!! toyota put quad exhaust and fake rear bumper vents. its so stupid that they keep on refreshing the 2012 camry every few year!
still a good car, I basically have a camry now and I really have no issues with it. At least they give you a 6 speed auto rather then honda with a cvt paired with the v6
Gene Markowski their sharp but the civic gets better hp, mpg,and is bigger inside and out. plus, the civic has better materials! the camry is just a refresh from 2012 and youll lose your value quicket
I'd assume if it was new this year there are no changes to the "mainstream" versions, just additional ones. I'd be interested in a look at the SR Turbo with 6MT though.
It might be slightly interesting, but it's a turbo in a crappy car. Chevrolet has never made a good small car. The Chevy Nova was crap, the Chevy Cavalier was crap, and the Chevy Cobalt killed many of its customers with those bad ignition switches. Chevrolet should stick to what they are good at - trucks and sports cars. They should leave the small car market much like Chrysler is leaving the mid-size sedan market.
Jc Future Actually their (Dart, Cruze, Focus) small cars are pretty good right now, its the japanese companies that are starting to slack off in the small economy car market. Toyota cant even be bothered to buid a compact car, they've contracted mazda to bulid and engineer their new Yaris. Mazda's focusing on CUVs like the cx3,5,&9 And Honda hasn't developed a new drivetrain for the the north American market in almost 10 years.
The Dart was one of the least reliable compacts ever built and is now discontinued due to extremely low sales. Chrysler knew they had a lemon on their hands.
This is an excellent car. I have a 2006 and it has been the more dependable car ever. Not a single repair in 11 years.

THANK YOU FUCK.....that's why i say about this car...my car a 2018 sentra sv so far it has been amazing
Have your CVTs blown up yet?
I had a 2014 Sentra as a rental and I really liked it with a couple of exceptions. The seat bottom was convex. Felt like I was sitting on a hump. Horribly uncomfortable. Darryl Henry What's D-logic?

The Altima is larger and is more fuel efficient.
I wasnt at all dissapointed...2018 sentra sv here and my dad and i love the car
I was expecting an as equipped price of around $18K with a starting price of $16k. You can buy a one year used full size for $22K. I don't see the compact value here. Feature creep. The $18k model has everything an $18k compact from the early '00s did give or take less NVH and cheaper upholstery.
I have a '09 Lancer GTS for many years now. It has been very reliable and it performs well, though the interior is sub-par and the paint sucks when compared to a Corolla and Civic.
Really can’t understand why backup camera at least is not the standard even on the base models, mine is a 2017, it just doesn’t make since.
This is pretty nice car however the lack of power is restricting me from buying it.
I love everything about this sentra except for the power and drive train.
Zack Lewine and those are really the 2 most important!
I don't understand why they don't offer a manual transmission in anything but the base model.
Although I'm a Honda guy, I also favor Nissan especially with the Sentra. A couple of my high school classmates have this car for a starting family.
I love honda not gonna lie and i still do..but i got this car...just gonna say this car is great..spacious at the back, big trunk, nice equipped and the engine i like it a lot...so far awesome first car
This is a great car for college students who are on a budget. Although this car is small for me it uus just me and my dog so I am fine with this car.

Need to the the SR Turbo!
I get around the same MPG on my 2017 3.O supercharged Audi Q5. Not sure what's so great about a 1.8 liter with no power. Give it the juice!!
Stone Walled Exactly! These damn hippies assume a car with no power will always get better fuel economy. They could not be more wrong if they tried. Sure, on the highway at 50 mph you may get 33 mpg...
Usually you hear good things about Nissan. Why is that CVT such crap though?
Needs a hatchback, maybe something along the lines of the slantback "wagon" that was offered in the Datsun 210 and the first two generations of Sentra.
I'm surprised that the current Nissan Sentra didn't come with a hatchback or even a coupe version for this current version.
Do the Sentra Nismo also!!! PLEASE!
intrestingly the elantra has more power, is faster AND GETS BETTER GAS MILEAGE! I would have thought this smaller engine would do better in that regard. but it doesn't even do as well.

Good review & great Sentra.
Seriously This Car Needs At Least About 20-30 More Horsepower 😭
Jonathan A Im Talking About Base Engine Wise... And Really That 1.6 T Engine Isn't All That Impressive To Me..

I remember when Nissan used to make decent cars
Just over $25,000? List showed SL at $23,005
SpaceGh0st711 those lost prices are the base trim level with no options. So it's showing a SL with no navigation or tech package
I would be forced to the the SR, but I still think that Mazda and Honda are killing it in this class. Nissan(- the SR) and Toyota really need a power train overhaul.

Im a mazda guy honestly, I'd rather N/A over turbo cvt
Mazda with the 2.5 is 184 vs 177. The civic is bigger, but you definately have not sat in a grand touring, it makes honda laughable
😂 10.2 to 60 mph
2016? It's almost 2017.
I'd assume if it was new this year there are no changes to the "mainstream" versions, just additional ones. I'd be interested in a look at the SR Turbo with 6MT though.
This car fell off hasn't been the same since '01 and it's not a midsize car🤨
Sentra, Versa, yaaaawwwwwwwnnnnnnn
Officially the least interesting small car currently on the market
Even with the garbage rental Chevy Cruze in the compact sector? I'd say that's the least interesting car in the small car sector.
Jc Future
No.
You can get the Cruze with a turbo, a deisel, and the hatch looks good.
It might be slightly interesting, but it's a turbo in a crappy car. Chevrolet has never made a good small car. Still boring is more like it. Maybe most boring looking in class.
At least it's not gonna break as easy as an american piece of shit..a.k.a chevy cruze and dodge dart and ford focus
