OUR STORY
We're Meghan & Matt, two travelers from the United States on a journey to travel 1,000,000 miles! For 2 years, we lived in our self converted van and traveled all over North America! During this time, we caught the travel bug, HARD. So we set a goal to travel one million miles! Now, we’re hiking, biking, driving, flying and even training around the world to discover as much as possible! Recently, we sold our van and packed up our lives into bags and boarded a one way flight to Europe, leaving behind no house, no car and not even a house/car. From now on, we will be living our of suitcases and traveling full time. How long is this lifestyle going to last? I️ guess you’re going to have to subscribe and follow along to find out!

The Thames is actually a very clean river, we have dolphins etc in it, and because it is a tidal estuary it is muddy.
The Thames is actually the world's cleanest urban waterway -its brown because it's estuarine and thus muddy (you're right). Brick Lane is not for curries any more -best curry would be Dishoom. If ever you need a loo, go to a pub. One on every corner
Buckingham Palace isn’t a government building 🤣 The Queen lived there for many years and so does King Charles. Also I’ve never heard of The Queens Walk being used as a name - most locals refer to it as the South Bank. Hope you guys had fun though! :)
We clearly do not know what we are talking about lol I️ think I️ read it’s a government building also? 🤷🏻♀️ we also pointed and identified buildings that were not right 😂
@@Meghanandmatt 🤣 as long as you had fun who cares. Love the videos - keep them coming!
@@chrismatanle haha thank you :)
In actual fact Buckingham Palace is owned by the nation not the Monarch, other royal homes are owned by the Royal family. The Palace is very old inside and not especially comfortable and is undergoing a comprehensive refurbishment. King Charles and the Queen currently live in Clarence House a short distance away but use Buckingham Palace as the "office" so to speak...
The royal family still live in buckingham palace i think
The Thames is actually really clean - It just has that colour from being a tidal estuary.
I lived in London for three years and didn't do all the tourist things in that time. It would take at least a week to do the most popular ones, but I hope that you enjoyed the ones that you did manage to see.
Yeah there’s definitely a ton of things to do in London. We had a great day exploring what we could!
As a Londoner i'd recommend Dishoom for a really great Indian meal.
Thanks for the recommendation!
Definitely!
Really enjoy your attitudes and your willingness to acknowledge if you aren't positive about a piece of information. So fun to see how excited you guys are to experience new things!
Glad you liked the video! We’re definitely more of an entertainment channel than we are an educational one 😅
Ironically, the London Bridge is actually in arizona in a place called Lake havasu!
Yes, shipped over brick by brick. I visited it 30 years ago. Story goes they thought they were buying Tower Bridge. And they have a red London phone box there too. And an English pub if memory serves me right.
Matt's facination with going on the top deck of a double decker bus made me laugh as it was the very first thing I wanted to do when I visited London. My girlfriend. who was from London. couldnt understand what the big deal was.
I’m glad I’m not the only one! Haha
Every kid wanted the top deck
I really enjoyed your video! 🤩 I am going to London too next week. 😊 Did you feel unsafe at any point in terms of pickpocketing?
Glad you liked the video! Enjoy your time! And no we didn’t feel unsafe about pickpocketing at any point
Buckingham Palace isn't a government building, its still a Palace where our Royal family live and Winsor Castle and have a few other places around England and Scotland.
You could never do 'all the tourist things in London in one day’ but glad you got a tatse and had a great time.
The original London bridge is at Lake Havasu City, Arizona, someone bought it years ago -he also thought he was buying tower bridge.
Loved this video, in spite of the information inaccuracies xxxxxx❤❤❤❤😂😊
Good times ✅
Historical accuracy 🤷🏻♂️😂
Cool that you made it to Shoreditch and Brick Lane. A walk north of Brick Lane is an amazing Canal and, if you don't mind walking a lot further, you can walk west all the way along the canal through some cool spots in King's Cross and then into Camden (whose High St is a bit like Brick Lane, though a bit less artsy but with some great punky venues). The canal itself has so many nice buildings and cool people. Yesterday I was there and ended up in several fun situations.]
I also love simply walking along the north side of the Thames river from about where the Tower Of London is going eastwards. It's simply got great views and a lot of really nice 'wharf-y' buildings and side allays that go straight down into the river etc. So I wouldn't want to live there if I sleepwalked! As well as nice homes and a few nice pubs, restaurants etc.
Regarding finding a loo in London, there are public loos tucked away but not easy to find in an given area. I usually sneak into a pub and, whenever I'm feeling courteous, I'll buy half a pint of beer as a sort of 'friendly payment' for sneakily using their facilities! My hiking GPS also knows where all the loos are.
It's be 20+ years since I flew, but I'd love to get back to New York and Washington some time.
We definitely have lots more to explore in London! Thanks for your recommendations and hope you get to visit soon!
Love your energy please both come back soon and for longer
We’d love to!
If you are looking for a public bathroom, you could go to Bath and check out the Roman baths.
Good video - the Thames is a clean river but is tidal and when the tide is coming in the (clean) mud in the estuary gets stirred up and colours the water as is true for all rivers in their tidal stretches.
The thames isnt clean and you cant swim in it but there are outdoor pools nearby
Interesting! Thanks for watching glad you liked the video
@@Leojw10 You can swim in the Thames and kayak but not east of Putney Bridge because of the boats and the strong underwater currents of the tidal section ending to the north sea. The Thames is very clean.
This isnt a comment about this video but how amazing your new banner is!!
Thanks!
The original London bridge is in Arizona! Replaced by the modern bridge over the Thames
Yeah we heard that! Pretty cool. Next time we go back to Arizona we might seek it out
I don’t think that’s the original. I think it was the second or third. There have been a few.
The Romans built the first proper bridge over the Thames, but that was back in 43AD when computers were made of wood.
Buckingham Palace is the King’s property. Swathes of central London are part of the so-called Crown Estate, e.g. Regent Street, meaning they are owned by the Royal family, who charges rent for properties. Buckingham Palace is “no Government building”, it is still the King’s residence.
The Brooklyn Bridge (1883) is actually about a year older than Tower Bridge (1884)
what a fun day that was ☺
So fun!!
Buckingham Palace is still a royal household (not a govt building -those are the former palaces that line Whitehall, west of Big Ben), with near 800 rooms (the Kings other main royal palace is Windsor Castle with over 1,000 rooms). Buckingham Palace actually stretches far back from the facade and is 3x as large as the front shows.
...on the "Palace" front, worth adding that the Guards are highly trained infantry soldiers, practically all of them with active service experience...the "fancy dress" stuff is only a small part of what they do...
There have been several 'London Bridges' built. The first obviously of wooden construction by the Romans.
The medieval London Bridge couldn't cope with traffic, so in 1831 a new one was built which we then sold on to America in 1968 and it's located in Lake Havasu City, Arizona. Buckingham Palace isn't a government building, Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip lived there although also living at Windsor Castle, it also has the famous balcony at the front from which numerous newly married Royals wave to the public. if the flag is flying you know they are present, which it was in your film. Westminster was a Palace and used as such up until medieval times. but is now used by Parliament.
I bet you didn't expect that extra souvenier from that pigeon😅😅
Definitely not 😂
Great video! How did the American dollar fair against the British pound? Where are you off to next?
Not so much. It’s a 1.29c conversion so it’s a bit expensive for us. Exploring Scotland!
@@Meghanandmatt Unfortunately anything touristy is expensive, I think that applies everywhere, there is a lot to see and do in London that doesn't cost anything, like the museums, Camden market, Borough market, the architecture, the bridges.
Been trying to see all of London since I moved here in 1980. I think I’ve got about 20 years to check out some more.
The clue is in the song.
London brings fell down !!!
It used to be really impressive with buildings actually on the bridge. But the weight made it sink and practically fall down.
Enjoyed the London Vlog. Hit all the high points. Ever think of going to Egypt to see the pyramids? It’s one place I would like to see. Just saying. Can’t wait till next week. Thanks!
We absolutely want to visit the pyramids one day! Thank you gor watching :)
The London Bridge that was “falling down” was replaced in 1831. It’s not surprising it was falling down. It was 600 years old.
Yeah that’s old. We found out that one is actually in Arizona now
You should of went to sky garden. The views are great and it's free. If it's sold out, then I recommend Garden at 120 which is literally down the street.
we wanted to but couldn't get tickets. Next time!
They let walk-ins in as well, without tickets, if it's not too busy even if it is sold out. @@Meghanandmatt
I absolutely love London and I’m from NY lol If there was a place in the world I could live the rest of my life is London. So much fun and excitement lol
It is a really fun city to explore!
If you go back to london you have to visit the most famous park in london hyde park also westfield shopping centre in shepherds bush london is the biggest shopping centre in europe canary wharf and battersea power station also are good places to visit in london👍
Also visit chinatown in leicester square and the two most popular shopping streets in london oxford street and regent street also regent street has the largest toyshop on earth hamleys toyshop which has 7 floors
Thanks for all the recommendations! We only had a day to explore so there’s a ton more we definitely have to see!
Fab video
great video
Thanks for watching! Glad you liked it
❤❤❤❤❤
Hahaha the bit where you say being out of a touristy area and you're in Brick Lane is cute, as a Londoner I consider it a touristy area! But anyway, glad you enjoyed the city. Its unique. Oh, Buckingham Palace is not a government building. Its still the King's main house.
Listen to 'Waterloo Sunset' by The Kinks
We’ll check it out! Thanks for the recommendation
enjoyed seeing your first time London adventures new SubScriber here ⭐
ay! Thank you and welcome!
Watching you guys eat curry while making curry myself!😂
We are also eating curry right now! 😂😂
Obligatory Brit with an obligatory 'splaining'. Big Ben is the Great Bell. The Clocktower of Westminster, aka Queen Elizabeth Tower is the the structure you see 🤣
Many thanks Obligatory Brit 🤙🏼
The river isn’t dirty it’s sediment / naturally brown
Hahahahha Matt got it good
Hahaha
London bridges last incarnation was bought, some years ago,by an american and now i believe resides in arizona
Red telephone booths were all over the place, but with the rise of cell phones they were not needed and removed,a few still remain though😢
If you want a really good curry/indian food experience look for dishoom, but make sure you have a reservation(book as soon as you can)🎉🎉
We’ll definitely have to go back for Dishoom! Everyone keeps saying that’s the place to go
Yup, it’s in lake havasu, Arizona I believe
yay! free things!!!
I️ love free stuff lol
The majority of museums in London are free. You could spend a day in the British Museum alone.
BIG BEN is the BELL inside the Elizabeth Tower.
🔔
🤦♀️ got a few things wrong but hey as long as you had a fab time xx🇬🇧
Haha woops! Yeah we had an awesome time!
"As Americans from America that grew up in America". See me after class for an explanation of redundancy.
School is for fools
Dishoom for curry, Brick Lane for bagels!
The reason the water is muddy is because the tide runs so hard it stirs up the river bed
You should have rode the open top double decker bus.
im not sure but aren't those for tours?
@@Meghanandmatt The ticket allows you to get on and off along the route. So if you see somewhere you like, get off, and when ready, get on the next one. I have never been on one but this is what I understand from other blogs and it makes sense. You also get a commentary during the ride. They are a great way to see the tourist spots without worrying about what bus to catch.
@@RonSeymour1 ah yeah we looked into it but the price was about 50£ per person which was much higher than the regular fare on the regular bus
Wow, £50, I didn't realise that it was so much. Just because you are a tourist doesn't mean that you should be ripped off.@@Meghanandmatt
@@RonSeymour1 there’s nothing truer! Cool option but so overpriced
I’m going to London soon I want to move to London
I live 2 hours from london would love to live there but its too expensive
We hope you have a great time there!
Yeah it’s definitely pricey
@@Meghanandmatt I’ll just move to Toronto, Canada instead it’s the most multicultural city in the world
Quite right the 'b'-word is a mild-ish swear word - it has great consonants for putting some real emphasis into the word though.
Point of interest - if somebody says the (mildly sweary) phrase "it's the dog's b..locks" that means the subject (it) is very good. Don't know why, just is.
Toilets used to cost a penny to use, which gave us the phrase "I need to spend a penny" meaning you need the loo
Also, balls is less rude than bollocks 😅
haaaah Balls. It will be used. I️ have never even heard of that phrase!
I'm curious how they found that out lol
EASTENDERS, hope you 2 caught an episode
never heard of it 🤷🏻♂️
@@Meghanandmatt popular show in London, comes on 3 nights a week. goggle it
This guy looks a lot like Beard Meats Food!
Brick Lane is a no go for Indian food ( it was good 20 years ago) Wembley is the place for Indian, or many other places, just not Brick lane tourist trap!
Ah we were told by our friends from the UK that brick lane was the place to go. We really liked it either way!
sorry to say, you can't see much in a day in London, it's too big. You did not see Big Ben, you only saw the Elizabeth Tower, Big Ben is the very large bell that sounds the hoursu might have heard it though. Not many people get to see Big Ben.
DUDE You the double of BEARDMEATSFOOD, uncanny!!
I do have a heard and I do love food 😎
One day to do London- ridiculous!!
How is that ridiculous?
I hate that I get hungry right when ya’ll were eating the curry >:(
Omg that always happens doesn’t it?
@@Meghanandmatt ALWAYS
Dishoom is the place for curry in London.
Definitely need to try it!
3:05 - If City Spice is the best curry in London then why does it only have 4.1 stars in your caption ... ?
It allegedly calls itself that so we had to verify
Just general advice. direct from a londoner. 1 - don't use the term "Downtown" nobody will have a clue where you mean. Its not used anywhere. 2- How many 'blocks' away is it'. see above answer. and lastly. Never, never attempt to pay in cash with dollars. Seen it so many times. Use pounds. you don't want to embarrass yourself when told by the shopkeeper "Mate, you ain't in bloody Dallas. Have a good trip.
An American from America. Where else would you be From ?
The United States
If you get pooped on it’s good luck!
One whole day? It's not Disneyland.
It’s what we had time for
Dishoom
Toilets are free in London! Did they pay a homeless guy or something? If you need a toilet just ask a pub or a coffee shop to use theirs.
mississippi in st.paul/harriette island is pretty f**kin gross.
I believe it
You do know Bridgeton is fiction.
That river looks so dirty!eww
watched all yer ZA vids awesome.... am watching London now !!!!!!!!! why BUBBLE TEA> cmon mates - its UK bangers mash fish chips NOT SUSGI and BUBBLE PEE thats so boring new age woke
Lol we love bangers and mash and fish and chips but it was a hot day and we wanted some bubble tea!
go to a pub and use the toilet for free, doh
erm...ONE day in London....WHY? I mean...what can you say after just a day? Surely you can't say you've "Seen" London? Could I "See" New York in just a day? Why do Americans do that? Tick off a country a day, I mean? You must be too tired to really enjoy anything, dashing about like that is just madness.
We don’t travel for the sake of country counting. We did what we had time for but chose to spend the majority of our time elsewhere in the UK
@@Meghanandmatt Glad you get to see more of the UK than just London! That's good to hear. May I recommend my area of the world, Swansea, South Wales: I think you may like the coastline and countryside. I now live in Brunei, so, to avoid being homesick I watch videos like yours lol. Hope you get to spend more time in the capitol, some stage, as it can be a fascinating place to stay for a while.
I'm relieved you're not the average American tourist we normally see, ticking-off countries by the day and thinking they have 'Seen' Europe! lol.
Bon Voyage for future journeys.
Oh no, not Brick Lane for curry. They're ALL crap. Who told you to go there? Got to be 1,000 better curry houses in London than that place.
Love this do you guys both have insta accounts?
