That old wrapping material could very well have ASBESTOS in it, which was common in military use back then. Be careful, Bro.

Great video Pete....I just want to compliment Vicki, she is very knowledgeable and also is always pleasant when she is in your videos. To have an employee like her is certainly an asset and you and Adrian treat her it seems like family rather then an employee.I am sure you guys have spent a lot of time training her “well done” but she seems to have a knack for the business......I have been meaning to comment on her for a while.Vicky you are a breath of fresh air in this tough business and you don’t go unnoticed...Some flowers for you,and God bless you all.🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹

Wow nice finds Pete, I love ham radios, I have a local guy here in Florida who test and repair all of my higher end radios i come across, the price difference between tested and untested can really be a huge difference with some of them like you said. Remember i commented and told you about the huge score i made on the Sansui G-33000, i sold that unit with in two days locally to a collector here in my area, I was shocked to find out this guy had over 144 vintage receivers in one small home. Great video my man, the guy selling the tubes and stuff was a character for sure. He said when you see black rolling around that just means it was tested haha that was funny. Thanks for sharing another great video Pete.

The "burn" spot on the tubes is from the "getter" which is the finale step in creating high vacuum. It gets very hot and reacts with any remaining gases and some of the metal plates on the inside of the glass.

Pete you are right about the Ham Radios I just sold a Kenwood r-300, a YAESU FT-301, Realistic DX-302 and I am about to list a vintage Swan 700cx radio along with a power supply and another component, untested for parts or repair and I am hoping to see close to a grand for this unit alone. Funny how your flipping the tubes because the Swan 700cx has tubes which is why it is very popular with the preppers.

Here in the U.K. about 25 years my dad and I cleared out an old BBC depot, there were a load of stage lights and tubes and they were wrapped in material like your tubes and it was asbestos. Fortunately one of the guys who worked for us knew what it was and we stopped before causing any major damage by fragmenting the stuff. We had to have it professionally removed and our scrap processing shed cleaned and decontaminated, it was very expensive. It takes very little exposure to some forms of asbestos to completely screw your health up.

Pete, in a previous video you mentioned a problem with going back to view eBay sold listings and being redirected to a live 'similar' listing.
FIX: If you click "See Original Listing" and go to the new (live) listing, you will see a blue banner at the top that says: "The LISTING you’re looking for is no longer available.....". It's very hard to tell but the word LISTING is actually a link to the ended item you really wanted to see. Just another way eBay is making our life easier with more confusion.
    Thanks for a great channel!

Hi Pete, Heads up on selling tubes on ebay they are restricted on global shipping program they will let you print the label but 90% of the time they do not make it past Kentucky. The reason some of the old rectifier tubes were filled with mercury gas and most tubes have lead parts . I have shipped hundreds of tubes using International first class package with very little problems most international buyers will not buy tubes that are listed with ebay global because of that problem . When shipping tubes with USPS use HM code 854081 is a audio tube.

I have a magnavox 8 track tape player. Stand up 3ft tall. Walnut cabinet. The stereo an 8 track still work. The sides are speakers. Made in 1973. It is 3 ft7 in. tall. Perfectly square 1 ft by 1ft by1ft by 1ft. Wood all the way around. Open the door on top half front to reveal am fm stereo an tape player. Have about 50 old rock and roll 8tracks that go with it that still play, Led Zeppelin Bad Company Lynyrd Skynyrd and many more. Would love to find out how much it's worth I have had it for 15 or 20 years. Would have to see it to appreciate it. You can't tell what it is with it just standing there

You don't need a licence to test Ham Radio, you need equipment that is expensive. Maybe if there is any kind of Ham Radio repair guy nearby your shop you can pay some money to test and verify the alignment. The TS-430 wouldn't bring more money than that but the TS-940S is pretty collectible. Collins radios is the ones that would bring more money. I knew a guy who used to buy and repair them to sell on the Hamvention in Dayton every year. (Yes, with two Collins on the bags he payed the 15 day trip from Brazil to US lol)

  • @KameraShy

    - That tube seller guy is sure a BS-er. Hillarious.
    - You got a TOILET?!? A thoroughly modern enterprise you have there, even indoor plumbing. Did Tube Guy think you did your business at the gas station?
    - That Hickok 533A tube tester is the real deal. Top of the line professional tester for tube guys. BUT do the settings BEFORE you insert the tube! If the voltage is set wrong (i.e. too high) You can cremate the tube.
    - For vintage tube electronics, ideally bring up voltage slowly on a variac. Allows the old capacitors to potentially reform. If they can't be completely tested such as ham radios, at least it shows the power transformers are good which is the key/expensive/difficult to replace component. Other components can be easily and relatively inexpensively replaced. At least in vintage tube stuff. (Certainly not the "modern" Chinese crap.)
    - Besides the Good/Bad reading tubes also need to be checked for gas, which the tester will indicate.
    - The silver spot is called a getter and is a positive indicator the tube is good. But the tube still needs to be tested.
    - Note to other commentators, given this being a year old now, comment posted by Vickie stated they did test the wrap and it is NOT asbestos. It would not make sense to wrap tubes in asbestos to protect them from fire during shipping.

Pete you CANNOT ship those tubes in the asbestos wrap. Asbestos is not only harmful to ingest it can wreak havoc on the skin too. If your buyer complains you packed the bulbs in the original asbestos & that you did not ship it as hazardous material you've committed a federal offense & you've exposed your buyer to a deadly material. Losing your ebay account would be the least of your worries.
