    I recently began playing again after not touching my bass for many years. My goal is to be much better than I was before, and have been exploring many different teachers and lessons online. I just came across your lessons, and absolutely love them. You've got a great teaching style, and I feel that I'm going to learn so much from you. Thank you so much for being online and sharing your knowledge and talent.

      You are welcome David. I am glad these are working for you. Which RBL vid is your favorite?

      @dpdupuis5 6 років тому +3

      Not sure I have a favorite, they're all great. I'm really wanting to learn the motown type of grooves and it seems that everyone on UA-cam is mostly interested in slap bass (yuck) so finding good quality old school teaching is difficult.

    Valuable lesson! A much more nuanced way of working that just locking in with the kick drum. Then keeping the bass rhythm constant and changing the notes... a recipe for success!

    Hello Jim, I have put this on my to do list next weekend. I am still struggling with a big exercise where I start at the third fret till way up to the 20th fret. I’m still fighting how to put my fingers. I can’t reach the high notes with my pinky so my ring finger has to do it. It is hard to say the least. But this is a great exercise. Love that slide you did at the end. THATS MOTOWN. GREETINGS FROM HOLLAND.

    Thank you for your lessons! I know this video may be several years old but hopefully you check your comments from time to time. By any chance is your red amp head a Walter Woods or is it a TC Electronics? WW amps are amazing if you can find one.

    Please tell us why you play Squier basses. I too love Squier. Don’t stop teaching please.

    • @realbasslessons9356
      @realbasslessons9356  6 років тому +4

      Sir B, The truth ... I use the Squiers because they are relatable. For many years I have heard students complain, "Man, I can't learn to play like you, you have a $5000 bass and only have a cheap imitation." I have seen this sentiment expressed so much that many players have built up a resentment to any one playing an expensive instrument.
      When I began my Real Bass Lessons channel about three years ago, I decided to play/teach (most of the time) using a bass that anyone could afford to purchase. I actually went to two different music stores, "setup up" and played ALL the less expensive basses in the stores. I bought a handful of Squiers because I liked the feel. I changed out the pickups in all of them, replaced with Nordstrand, and did a little fret work to the ones that needed it.
      The Squire basses I own are an excellent value and serve my purpose well.

    Could you do a lesson on executing muted/ghost notes? I'm struggling to do it without some harmonics coming through.

    • @realbasslessons9356

      David, I understand that stage of development. I suggest you watch many of my Motown videos here, and PLAY ALONG WITH ME. It will come if you repeat enough. ;)
      Also, I suggest you do this series of small lessons. I think you would love it.

    Hi, Jim, where can I get your books? Thanks for your lessons, nowadays bass players tend to forget what our instrument is about and you focus on what's really important: playing bass is about... playing bass.
