Damn, I really appreciated the little pep talk at the beginning. I have been playing a ton, using a play along app, learning a billion songs, playing for hours some days. My teacher always told me to give him a half hour of work/day and then play all I want. I’ve been slacking on the practice entirely and I can feel it in my technique and my consistency as a player. If I’m going to be competent and serve the song and the other musicians, I’ve got to put in the work. Thanks for that advice! All these lessons are a huge gift.

Well, I love your simplistic way of teaching which I believe in too. Too many people tend to get their lives complicated but as the Occam's razor basicaly says, "keep it simple".
"The cycle of fourths is the best X for practicing". I'd say "framework" is a good word there. (I started using the single-string cycle of fourths recently based on your recommendation.)

I'm a guitar player for the past 35 years. This year I have fallen in love with the bass. I've played the bass over the years, but you know, a guitar player THINKS he can play anything with strings. I'm so obsessed with learning how to be a true bass player though. I just wanted you to know I'm really enjoying your lessons. I love practicing the bass and I'm starting to feel the transition. Couldn't agree more with you regarding cycle of fourth's, smooth and musically played. I made myself some Cubase loops and am taking your challenge to play 1 hour per day to a beat ... And often in dark so I cannot see the fingerboard. The muscle memory is kicking in as are slides. I am gaining more time (because in don't need to think about left hand) to calculate (root + 5) modulo 12 ... 13 being exception ...moves to 18 that becomes 6. Next to associate note names with numbers ... (6 on A is 1 on D so Eb or D#). It is beginning to click ... (The same string constraint for roots can be relaxed to move from E to A string same fret and move from A to E string but two towards nut - which you do on some lessons). God bless you Jim!

Great teacher, please can you give us some tips on minor chord progressions? I sometimes feel the needing to play bichords and find some troubles in minor harmonic and melodic progressions, in order to choose which one notes playing together for the "best" tension result! Hi! And greetings from Germany! I do have a question, if you don't mind me asking. Coming from the guitar, I have the tendency to use my ring finger in a "barré" fashion when, for example, fingering the D string, and then afterwards the G string on the 5th fret. I see that you are lifting up your fingers when fingering notes on adjacent strings, even if you are not moving around the fretboard. Does this description make sense? I am wondering if my technique of not lifting my finger to press down the follwoing note is bad style, and might come back to haunt me in the future. It's difficult to get rid of a bad habit. Hope I got my point across! I really do appreciate your work, and absolutely love the positivity you are able to transport within your videos. All the very best, Patrick

Not sure. I recommend you just try to copy my technique.
I guess a good routine would be to practise ii-V7-I-VI7 progs like this, in all keys
This is tougher than you might think.Try it with a metronome set at just 50bpm going 4 times around.
