    Twitch should really go more highlight-oriented. Like highlights when hovering over recommended, recommended compilations while a streamer is offline. Yeah, that’s more like UA-cam, but it’s better for streamers, especially small ones.

      There's this extension you can add to your stream where when you shout someone out (for whatever reason, they raided you, just a friend of the channel, whatever) it automatically plays a clip from their channel on your stream. I'm not saying that's a good idea for all streams, but I think more stuff like that would be really helpful to small streamers like me since instead of viewers seeing a shout out and ignoring it, they actually get to see that person be funny or have a reason to follow and maybe click on the next stream. Just have clips everywhere and be more accessible

      They Should try to be more like UA-cam in that regard, because that’s exactly how most people find new streamers to watch outside of raids. You see popular clips from twitch that were uploaded to UA-cam and go “huh, that person’s funny, I should watch more of them.”

      Growing on twitch is impossible. The only reason i have any amount of growth on twitch is from my UA-cam channel, my tik tok, my meme page on Instagram, my main Instagram, and Snapchat. If i didn’t use those other social media’s to promote and get the word out on when i go live on twitch, I’d still have 0 viewers on twitch. Twitch truly does just need to implement something like this. It would help SO much. Even just automatically opening to the clips section of a twitch channel rather than the videos section would probably help a little bit.

    "The best way to grow on Twitch is to get off Twitch" - I found Ludwig through a random recommended video in my YT feed, and I started watching him. I'd never used Twitch for anything except watching Rainbow 6 Tournaments. 2 years later, I tune it to a wide variety of streamers and most of my YT watch-time is spent on Twitch highlight channels - all because of Luds YT channel.

      Now days the only people getting famous from twitch are those who are already famous from something else and they use twitch as another revenue stream or its someone who interacts with big creators because that's how twitch is set up. Twitch just doesn't want new creators anymore

      The hard part is, most small streamers just aren't as entertaining as the larger streamers so it's hard to filter out the ones that just have mediocre content from the good ones who just haven't gotten a chance yet. So it very well might have a cost in terms of user experience.

    • @copc4ke341

      I do get your point but again Twitch is a company so they need to come up with ideas which are profitable for them. Think it this way, can twitch give every single person on their platform a free sub just for a month? Yes. Would this be very welcoming by the community and make Twitch look like a really caring platform? Probably yes. So why don't Twitch give away free subs to their creators who are been in their platform for a while? Well this won't make any money in return, just a kind act. But there needs to be profit because there are thousands of people working for Twitch and they're waiting for their paychecks every month, in a way we're paying for those too. If I was working for Twitch and came up with an idea in which it's going make small streamers grow and also going to make money for the company then I would expect to get paid by Twitch for my idea. But if my idea don't make any money even though it make the small streamers grow anyway(like you suggest), well that's a really nice thing but now are they going to make money out of thin air to pay me?
      So basically they can't just make decisions like you said because if they don't think about money then the company is going to be in decline. Therefore the advertiser won't be working with them and they won't be able to support their servers, their paychecks for employees, their rent for offices, their events etc...

    The way I see it, you don’t really go to twitch to see new random streamers who you might like. You only really go watch people you know and like. But UA-cam has been known as the site where you just click on videos and if you get something new that you end up liking, you’ll probably return. So it’s probably also an issue of habit or what the site is generally like or known as.

    7:25 That idea at the end Lud had was amazing. I don't use Twitch too often, (obviously this is the youtube comment section after all) but I constantly see streamers have to repeat themselves a lot of times, it gets to the point where they might just ban someone just joining and asking what's going on. Having a clip to explain the stream you're about to watch should be implemented as an optional starting point the moment you click on the stream. Another thing to add, Twitch should just start asking their own creators what to do, if Ludwig has this idea on the top of his head, others will as well.
    My own idea is make subs watch ads, but instead of 6 30 second ads in a row, subs just have to watch 5 second ads only and one each time, they need to find more profit and that could be a start

    I remember a couple years ago back when Schlatt streamed, someone asked him how to get big on twitch. He said the best way is to build an audience somewhere else like UA-cam and bring it to twitch, since there’s no easy way for new people to be exposed to your content.

    Thanks for both talking about this and informing me of this as well. I totally agree, as a small streamer for the longest time it's been rough. Maybe I do need to start using my UA-cam more but I just don't have the time in my current schedule with schooling. Also as someone who can't stream everyday, it really does make it hard to be discovered. The best way I have been seen so far is through telling the discord groups I've been raiding with that I'm live when playing Destiny. It really does feel shitty that there is no good way to be seen through twitch alone.

    I think the main is problem is just that livestreams are much less marketable than almost any other form of media. Watching a 10 minute UA-cam video is much easier and more appealing than watching a multiple hour long livestream. Even then, clicking on a random livestream will probably just be something uninteresting like them waiting in a loading screen, then at least 30 seconds of ads hits you and you don't feel like watching the ads for something you probably aren't interested in. So people only watch streamers they know they will enjoy so they don't waste their time.

  • @krablord

    I have absolutely found loads of streamers from being recommended clip/highlight compilations on youtube. I feel like it gives a good idea of what a streamer's sense of humours like & what their community finds noteworthy/funny- since that's how they seem to get popular. I've watched enough VODs from streamers on here that the algorithm picks someone in the same area of stuff I like, and it's honestly helped me find several new people I'm subbed to.
    I don't know if I've ever even clicked on anything in the recommended section on Twitch.

    I think if Twitch made the VoDs and clips more accessible and intractable, it would be just a better UA-cam.

    Solid video lud, especially about some pinned tweet or something when you join a livestream. Now they kinda put it in the title or just their discord. Which sucks.
    As for clips they 100% just need an easy access clip page where you can watch clips of the day.
    Instead of what we have now, sure they have a clip page per category and you can short on 24h or 7days. But it just doesn't do it.
    They need a dedicated page and algorithm for it so it can recommend me nice clips instead now i have to go to UA-cam for it other people use TikTok.
    Well not like they will do it ever and neither is anybody gonna read this.

    A TikTok-type section on twitch would be amazing. Where you could just scroll through clips. One thing that could make it different from TikTok would be when a viewer clips something from a different streamer, there are two buttons on the video, one to follow the streamer and one to follow the viewer posting the clips.

  • @Maria_745
    @Maria_745 2 роки тому

    They need to recommend highlights or channel intros. The best part about raids is when the streamer tells you their name, who they're playing with, how much longer they're on, what they usually play, etc. When you go into a new channel in the middle of their stream it's like going on a boring blind date because all of your friends were busy. So you bail and wait for someone you know to start streaming to even come back to the website at all

    Small streamer = few viewers boost the stream
    Big streamer = more viewers = more boosts
    Therefore, recommendations for larger streamers will stomp on small streamers

  • @JuiceD-bi8oy
    @JuiceD-bi8oy 2 роки тому

    I think the main thing that Lud touches on here that I agree with is how much Twitch relies on other platforms for streamers to succeed. If Twitch could functionally replace LSF with an on-site post board, comments on clips, and a tab for viewing and consuming clips and VODs, they’d be more successful.
    I think the primary issue with Twitch is that they give revenue streams to other platforms because they don’t have an effective way to replace the functions those platforms have created, and if they could functionally replace that, they could keep people on the website, viewing advertisements and gaining revenue.
    Twitch just needs to make availability for edited clips and VODs to be uploaded under channels, and have a better system for viewing popular posts that prioritizes smaller streamers with comparatively popular posts, coupled with a voting or liking system, as Lud said.
    At the end of the day, Twitch needs to do what will make them money without a lot of investment, but I don’t think the effort and investment it would take to implement a liking/voting system on clips and VODs, or a commenting system on that type of content, or creating a page that highlights those types of content is difficult.
    If Twitch can get edited stream content back on the platform, and the platform can focus on keeping all Twitch-related content on the website, I think they could gain more revenue because it could give viewers a reason to be on the site and to consume content they wouldn’t normally.
    Overall, Twitch needs to have a way to get edited and highlighted stream content back on the platform as the main viewing location. Reddit, UA-cam, TikTok, and more all have portions of their platform dedicated to content that comes from Twitch, filling niches and content consumption that isn’t available elsewhere, because Twitch isn’t worried about keeping its content on its platform. Fix that, and you fix most of the issues with Twitch. Then you can focus on ways to incentivize watching different streamers.
